In an interview with Symphony 924 a few days ago, Chloe said that although she had been preparing for her performances of the "Butterfly Lovers" violin concerto with the SSO on 10 and 11 November, she had also been sitting her O' level exams - and still had one more exam to go. She is already such a wonderful violinist that one forgets how young she is. That she has been able to give to us this Bruch, and other such similarly superb performances, whilst having to work around the demands of schooling, is truly remarkable.

Well played Chloe Chua, you are amazing. Chloe is without doubt an amazing young violinist.....as are many others. The best version of this that I have seen in person was by Sarah Chang who I saw play live in London in 2012. Bomsori Kim also wowed the BBC proms this year in London with her performance of the same concerto. So many amazing young lady violinists now and lastly..... It has been known for a while that next year the SSO and Chloe will release a CD box set comprising Mozart's five violin concertos, his Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola and (I think) his Rondos and the Adagio. But the SSO has just posted that it is also going to release on CD Chloe's performance of the Butterfly Lovers violin concerto coupled with her performance of Paganini's violin concerto #1. Oh happy days!

For Chloe fans out there, you might want to compare this performance to her Carmen outdoor performance 5 years ago with the SSO. A number of the orchestral members have played with her through this period so they have witnessed first hand her musical core development. (I would feel like a proud mother hen if I were any of them.) She really listens to all of the orchestra and vice versa. It is so clear in the finale as she accelerates, almost pushing the orchestra to the final notes. Really loved it! 😊
