I am not a professional musician. I was just blown away by this performance. This is a song I have heard all my life. At one point it was the theme music for United Airlines. The first time ever that I have truly appreciated the song. This caused me to jump down the internet rabbit hole on Chloe and Gershwin. BRAVO!

This was a highly abridged version. Go seek out the Leonard Bernstein full version here. It is amazeballs.

@@marchoff944 For sure!! .... they did a 20 min piece in 5 min....and I thought they didn't play the slow part long enough...which is where I think Gershwin's melody in that piece was the prettiest...but I guess not enough people in the audience would appreciate the genius of Gershwin to listen that long...they don't know what they are missing

She is If you don't pay attention to the two times she messed up...first she got off time at one point and kind of played a passage a little ragged... and late in the piece she hits a klinker....she would sound great to the average person...but those of us who are professional pianists went "what was that?" when she hit it....Don't get me wrong she is a fantastic pianist...but she just isn't to the level of like an Alfred Brendal was. I am sure she was not happy with her performance because she knows every gifted pianist out there heard the mistakes. Personally she seemed really nervous and I can tell you ....if you are playing a long piano piece and you think about the audience even for a second you may hurt your performance...I had something similar happen years ago whil playing Beethovens "Tempest" Sonata....got clear to the end and over thought it and froze for about a full second.lol

I saw Dudley Moore play Gershwin with the Grand Rapids Symphony years ago. I am not a musician but I know the Rhapsody. He wasn't perfect either but there is more to a performance than technique for the audience. I enjoyed her performance.

@@scottstuit9305 Well in the end that you enjoyed her performance is the main thing for most people....but there is a difference between technique and hitting a really bad klinker....right in the middle of the piano she slipped off a key and hit the key right next to it....basically it was like hitting middle C and C sharp at the same time...it really jumps out when that happens. I attribute this to nerves, heat and humidity and not enough experience yet...not questioning her basic talent. I can tell you playing a piano when it is humid is more challenging. Your fingers want to stick to the keys...you have to work harder

Just listened to it again...the klinker is right around 5:13 which she is doing exactly what I did in my Beethoven piece....you have played the hardest parts and did them well ...you are coasting playing things you can do in your sleep...and that's when trouble starts...you get over confident and start thinking"I've got this....almost done" and thinking of anything besides what you have to do can be dangerous when you are fighting extra heat , humidity and nerves. The sad part is she hit a klinker in an area that a 4th year piano student could play....she is far more talented than that. If she is like me I would be dwelling on that one note the rest the evening...as a professional it is hard to accept when you don't play it perfect and then you have to remind yourself....you are still human haha

The sound engineer should have turned the volume of the piano up a bit as well.
