$58,704 is an absolutely insane price for a midsized middle of the road pickup, of any brand. I purchased my 2020 Tacoma TRD off-road for $32,480 OTD, in April 2020, just after the COVID shutdown. Is it a $26,224 better pickup? I would be hard pressed to justify paying that much of a premium, especially with moving to a 4 cylinder turbo motor. I believe that Toyota has priced itself out of the market for many long term Taco owners, especially with the competition available in the market today. I do wish you all the best with your new truck, it is certainly an upgrade in many respects, but personally, I will pass for now.

It’s a poorly built truck and the 4 Cylinder Turbo Engine is going to have big problems if you tow or put bigger tires, and Turbo engines do not last. Period. Ask any Toyota mechanic or reputable ASE certified mechanic, they are expensive to repair and do not last past 150K miles. Also, the automatic and manual transmissions are failing at a high rate. The 2024 Tacoma and the 2022, 2023, and 2025 Tundras are being recalled for that Twin Turbo V6 Engine. Toyota had become a greedy and cheap vehicle manufacturer now. For shame Toyota. Do better or your customers will not buy or step foot on your dealerships.

I just couldn't justify the price of the new Tacoma vs. the Chevy as you just don't get as much for your money. I don't make judgments on anyone's finances or what they buy and drive. That being said if you're happy with what you paid and got what you wanted that's all that matters... It's a beautiful truck!! Toyota has a great reputation for reliability which is something that is VERY important to me, I've been buying Toyota vehicles exclusively since 1990 when I bought my first 4X4 Pickup and I paid $15,500 out the door, I drove that truck for 20yrs without ANY major problems when I gave to my daughter, she traded it in 3yrs ago. I also bought a 1995 Four Runner that my wife drove for 10yrs til it was totaled in a wreck....My latest purchase was a 2019 TRD 4X4 that I bought from my neighbor 3yrs ago that he had upgraded with a lift, top of the line suspension and bigger tires and rims. He had over 5k in those upgrades.... I paid 35,000 cash, no financing for that truck (I hate care payments) I would never buy a used vehicle, you never know what abuse they may have had, but I've known my neighbor for 20yrs and I know he never abused anything he drove... The truck had ONLY 2,000 miles on it!!! He almost never drove it which is why he sold it. It's now my daily driver, it runs like a dream and it may very well be the last vehicle I ever buy, I'm retired and I don't drive a whole lot either, the odometer turned to 17,000 miles this week. The truck is barely 'broken in' as far as I'm concerned, it looks and drives like it's brand new. So long story short, I hope you're happy with your new truck. I'm sure you'll get lots of enjoyment out of it....Looking forward to seeing how you 'trick' this new one out!!!

From my local observation it's usually the small pickup trucks that actually get used for hard work, humping garden waste etc. Occasionally a bigger truck has been customized as a work truck with say a special frame on the bed, or it's covered in company logos. Mostly though they appear to be emotional support trucks.

damn, seems like that dealer really stuck it to you. taxes and licenses fees aren't fees you can avoid cause it goes to the state. you shouldn't pay the processing and delivery fee because that is paid from the manufacturer to the dealership or reimbursed I forgot which one. doc fees, why do you have to pay a fee for them to process your application for them to sell you a car? that is probably like an extra $2K you got scammed out. on top of that since you're not showing everything we don't really know how much they actually overcharged you for the tacoma. regardless these tacomas built in mexico, with sub par materials as the previous generation and now starting to have problems are not worth what they are asking for even at msrp or their discounts. YOU NEVER BUY A VEHICLE CASH, this is why they also screwed you. even if you're going to buy the vehicle cash you finance the vehicle through the dealer because they will give you the best possible deal on the vehicle or otdp. then when you get your first bill or any information regarding your loan you call the bank up and payoff the loan. paying a few days of interest because you financed a vehicle will save you thousands in the price of a vehicle if you're not stupid and know how to negotiate.

You are very wrong. The documentation fee in her area is regulated by law and is currently 85 dollars which is cheaper than ny
@Garuda14153 ай бұрын
Here's the Copilot version of your rant; you might want to consider for next time: It sounds like that dealer really took advantage of you. Taxes and license fees are unavoidable since they go to the state. However, you shouldn’t have to pay the processing and delivery fee, as that cost is typically covered by the manufacturer or reimbursed to the dealership. As for the documentation fees, it’s questionable why you should pay for them to process your application to sell you a car. That could be an extra $2,000 you were overcharged. Additionally, without seeing all the details, it’s hard to determine how much they overcharged you for the Tacoma. Regardless, these Tacomas, built in Mexico with subpar materials compared to the previous generation and now starting to have problems, are not worth their asking price, even at MSRP or with discounts. You should never buy a vehicle with cash. This is another way they took advantage of you. Even if you plan to buy the vehicle with cash, you should finance it through the dealer to get the best possible deal on the vehicle or out-the-door price. Then, when you receive your first bill or any loan information, you can call the bank and pay off the loan. Paying a few days of interest because you financed the vehicle can save you thousands on the price if you know how to negotiate effectively.

I purchased my Sport in Orange County for $51k OTD. The suggested MSRP was $46k without taxes, registration, etc. I've been looking since October and wasn't able to locate the color and options I want until June. I've went to four dealership and they were not willing to go below $50k OTD. The only thing it doesn't have is the automatic tailgate which I overlooked because it had all the other functionality I had. But low key, the automatic gate would have been great. Congrats on your new Taco! I look forward to your upcoming mods and reviews.

I think we're going to see a lot of problems from that turbo engine, and did customers actually ask for that, or did Toyota just force it on them? Apart from the inflated sticker price that seems the biggest change for the '24 Tacoma, and they both seem to be negatives.

First off - kudos to you for openly sharing the price and your experience...I think the more this type of information gets out the more "honest" the dealerships will have to be. In terms of pricing...I think that all trucks in this segment are priced higher than the value they offer. Given recent toyota recalls and tacoma drivetrain issues this is more prevalent with Toyota. In general the market it overpriced by ~15% relative to the new content of the trucks. Also, really appreciate the "paid in cash" sentiment...I think given the current interest rates financing or Leasing just isn't a smart choice for any consumer. Buy the car you can pay cash for...

Chloe - I too recently purchased a 2024 Tacoma TRD Off Road. To be honest - all I was looking for was the Solar Octane color which I hear is a $425 add... I would have been happy with an SR5. It took months of searching and I finally found one at the same lot I purchased my 2022 SR5 Tacoma. I do Agree - I went back and forth A LOT with Sales... Same MSRP $42,900. This one had mud guards, Door Edge Guards, and the Upgrade Package ($4,649) plus Delivery/Processing/Handling.. Brought it to a whopping $50,525.00 in the end, I was able to get them to drop about $2k from their asking price and I was able to slide over about $10,000. of equity from my 2022 then leased.. I walked out of the dealership twice - the numbers weren't where I wanted them - and I was perfectly fine leaving with old my Blue Crush SR5. Both times the sales folks magically found some more reductions and got things closer to a more manageable monthly payment... I'm really happy with my choice... I think the only gripe (and it's not really a gripe) is that this new truck likes to pull the wheel away from me if I stray to close to lines - it used to just BEEP... I love your clips. You're doing a great job...

Really great review and I give so much credit for the hard work. Truth be told I love Toyota and if things were different I would have bought one. Asking what they are asking is insane and a down right insult to the taco culture. I had so many problems with my 19 Tacoma, the service team, sales team, and corporate that the prices are the last straw. Sadly, while it is a great platform the competition is catching up and providing many of the same features at a much lower price. These rigs are not $15-20k better than the competition. To each their own, I mean no disrespect, but there are some great vehicles out that companies are standing by.
