Fumoto F103s for about $30 (Amazon) as of this posting....been using it on my '17 for years now and have installed one on many other motors I own since. I remove my skid plate because the access isn't adequate and inevitably used oil is going to pool on top of it and will drip leaving you wondering if you have a leak. If you remove your skid plate be very careful not to strip these bolts as it's easy to do with power tools....something the dealership does regularly and part of the reason I do my own service, not to mention half the cost. Good video!

for anyone prepping to do this, I'd suggest having a larger 1/2" breaker bar and a 24 mm socket for the oil filter housing because those things can be over torqued by the dealership, at least mine was. this was the solution I'd found on tacoma world, if anyone runs into a similar thing

The only thing you miss is a FUMOTO valve. It will make the cleaniest oil change. Made in japan, I have that on all cars since at least 10 years ago. No more oil pan plug to remove, no mess in a drip pan. Connect the hose to the valve, put the end of the hose in an empty gallon. Open the valve to drain directly in the empty gallon. Then proceed with the other motiveX tools to finish the job. I have that motiveX hose kit and would notgo without it !

Great video Chloe. Doing an oil change on my 2nd gen tomorrow with 280,000 miles and still running great. I change the oil every 3000 miles now because, well it can’t hurt. I went with the cardboard Havoline 6 quart 5w-30 high mileage. My only note on this video that I hope you find helpful is when you are using a torque wrench always apply force with your hand on the handle for an accurate torque value. The line on the handle of most torque wrenches is to indicate where to apply the force. Don’t mean to knit pick ! Really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work ✊🏽
@novanuke1356 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if that's true. Physically the same torque is applied, just different amounts of work is required depending on how far your hand is away from the axis.
@pauliemars Жыл бұрын
@@novanuke1356 it’s a fact. Torque wrenches are calibrated to work accurately by applying force from the handle only. Any good torque wrench will explain this in the literature that’s comes in the box.
@SS-vt6by Жыл бұрын
@@pauliemars He has a point. The torque value will still be the same when you click off, only thing that changes is the amount of force you had to use to get it there.

Nice tutorial. I would recommend that before you start the oil change pop the hood (if the hood for some reason didn’t open you’re stuck) and loosen the filler cap (so as to drain the oil faster). Pretty slick tool. Autozone use to have a large sheet metal pan made by Blitz. I use that instead of card board. Just wipe it down from any oil splatter.

Before installing your oil filter housing you should fill it up with oil a bit - that oil is in there for a reason, and you can but about 1/3 of a quart in before screwing it in and your engine is not effectively dry firing. I have the Motivx filter removal tool and can attest it is great, don't have the hose, but I don't mind a little dirty.
@ps42920 күн бұрын
If installing an oil filter without adding oil in it be a problem, why would most manufacturers mount oil filters sideways on engines? Your engine always has oil on it's components. It's never dry after changing oil.

20k miles is kind of pushing it even with extended life synthetic oil and all easy, dust minimal, all highway use in mild weather. With the driving she is doing, off-road in dusty conditions, 5k is probably a good interval.

I got the motivX kit a few months ago and finally did my first oil change the other day. A bit If a pita because the oem plastic housing was on super tight, had to drop the rci front skid plate to get a large crescent onto the nut and use a dead blow hammer. If I didn’t have this filter wrench I probably wouldn’t have gotten the filter off! The drain tool worked great, trimmed the hose so it just went into the pan and the funnel was ideal to refill the oil! I put on a Toyota metal filter housing and a fumoto valve so hopefully the next change is a lot easier!

Nothing at all wrong with your video, it's well shot and you're a good narrator, so thankyou, as for the products though, I don't really see the point of the funnel when any funnel will work, and also the drain tube gimmick because new filters typically come with the push in plastic piece to drain and it's really not that messy. I just changed mine. Or attempted to change. Bear in mind, I have always changed my own oil in all my vehicles. However, my 2021 Off Road has kicked my rear. Granted the dealership changed the first oil change. When I changed my own, the plastic cover was so tight, the fins on the sides broke off. So I had to add new oil and take a to dealership to replace cap. I ended up purchasing a new aluminum cap because I hate plastic and don’t want this happening again.

Hi Chloe. Thanks for this video. I bought the Motivx Oil Wrench Tool on your recommendation. I don't know if my situation is unique, but the tool completely stripped out before the filter housing started to turn. (It stripped where my ratchet attached.) Yes, the filter was on tight. But would have expected the Motivx to work better than a standard wrench. Maybe I just got a bad one. Also, the drain tool did create much less of a mess than the little plastic piece that comes with the filter. As someone else called out, you can just attach a hose to the plastic piece that's free.

Motivx are excellent. They are an exact fit. I use the funnel on all 3 of our Toyotas (1.8l and 2.5l). I do have 3 filter wrenches but well worth the expense if you do your own changes. An exchange step I do is siphon the oil from the dip stick tube. So very little drains from under the car.
