I'm with Kevin here. Sometimes, when I have more stressful weeks or months, I'm somehow more prone to spent way more money and I cannot control it. This is one of the ways to handle stress and being overwhelmed - overspend or overeat. Good, that you have Kevin to spot it and addressed it. Try a challenge - 3 months spending only 500-1000$ per month. This should make you calmer and more sound with money. All of it is not about you, but about the chapter in your life, which is very hectic. Wish you all the best! :)

I think it's important to have consistent conversation with your spouse about these things. $9K may not be a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it's more about enabling your brother and other family. You can either have money now or have money later.
@chloeshih10 ай бұрын
this is an excellent perspective, gyasi!! thank you! i think i do need to be mindful on the message i send when i am paying for things for my brothers :( i know they're very appreciative, but it can get pretty tricky too. kevin has been a great sounding board to keep me grounded and to think through what implications my actions have. really good to have someone help me pause and reflect to make sure i stand by my financial decisions!
@cha711210 ай бұрын
I love how real this video is. Chloe I used to be like you, splurging on “once in a lifetime” experiences when I was in a financial position to do so. But truthfully, it’s a slippery slope. Very easy to justify any indulgent treats as a unique experiences and it took me a long time to realize that. When I combined finances with my husband, that’s when I had the wake up call and it’s difficult to go back and live more frugally to invest for our financial future.
@chloeshih10 ай бұрын
Ughhh it really is a slippery slope! May I ask what type of items you’d splurge on? But yes now I’m slowly shifting from a “this is my money” to a “this is our money” mindset. It does change things!
@cha711210 ай бұрын
The list is long 😂 High quality and classic “investment” clothing or bags that meant to be once in a lifetime purchases, jewelry to treat myself for work milestones, dining experiences and shows, etc. I have always been a spender and my partner a saver. When we were dating it’s all good cause I was just using my money but after getting married and we joined finances, it finally dawned on me that it wasn’t fair to my husband that I splurge so much. When I wanted to treat my family, I would dial back on my own spending to make up for it. The economy and job market is in flux right now, so we shifted our priority to living way below our means in case we need that money to support our parents in the future. I think family would always appreciate our helping hand when things are tough over splashing out on fun experiences for them 😊 that’s just where life is at for me in my 30s
@mydogisbailey10 ай бұрын
I used to work as a manager in tech in SF and I never could never even come close to allowing myself to spend $1000 on anything like concert tickets haha. And I personally think it is important for your brothers to see you as an equal, not as a motherly figure to go to for frivolous desires. If you said yes to buying them tickets, it doesn’t really leave you a lot of wiggle room to say no to them in the future. And ironically they could become resentful when you try to say no
@Ghost-sz7uo10 ай бұрын
sorry, but i'm team kevin on this one. if treating your brothers is any indication of how you're going to raise your future children, they're going to be so spoiled!!

Very true!! We had a deep heart to heart and talked about it at couples therapy this past week. I think I really feel the need to compensate for my brothers bc we did live a very very frugal life growing up and extreme scarcity mindset. 😔 he talked me through certain levels of giving that would be reasonable vs just buying the best item out there. I’d say I’m pretty reasonable when it comes to myself but when it comes to my brothers, I just swipe the credit card 😅 Now that it’s not just my money anymore (it’s our money) I’m gonna have to make active efforts to change my old habits!!
@cha711210 ай бұрын
I’m the eldest and totally feel you regarding humble upbringing and wanting to give the best to younger sibling when I have the money to do so. But they need to develop skills and establish financial autonomy to navigate life challenges. It’s definitely a fine balance to treat younger sibling well vs. not over doing them because you want them to be self sufficient and successful in life too! There’s a Chinese saying that “it’s better to teach people how to fish than giving them the fish” 😊

I personally wouldn't take that much money from my siblings knowing she's getting laid off, especially just for entertainment. I also won't give that much money to my siblings if I'm currently laid off and not knowing when do I get the job especially in this job market ( maybe for emergency things but not for concert tickets just for fun). My husband was getting laid off since August last year and still not getting a job. This job market is tough. You're lucky because you still have income from KZbin and don't have children yet.

Yeah, I was also a little shock that the brother asked her to buy him tickets for ado/one piece music concert. Not borrow money but out right asking for free tickets. Why are you buying your brothers’ girlfriends’ tickets?! That’s insane. They all better pay you back. Just cover 20% if you want to be nice to them not the whole thing. That’s bad money management skills for them as well.
@chloeshih10 ай бұрын
aghh i know! that's probably the biggest feedback point i've been getting from friends and kevin. i think your suggestion is a pretty good compromise - covering part of the thing or even the base amount. any additional things, they can pay for. in general, i have a host mentality and i really love creating inclusive experiences but not at the cost of the people in it. i've definitely been on the outside looking in, and i always wish i could be at a place to bring people i love who are on the outskirts in with me. my personal goal is to experience this special moment altogether, but i know money can be really touchy for people involved. I can't easily ask them to pay to hang out with me, so i opt to cover and not think about it too much. pros and cons! from a spending ratio standpoint, i'm spending very much within my means. but i do think you're right that it impacts others in bad money management. anyways - great food for thought for myself as i figure out how i set my money intentions with my husband as a unit!

Personally, if I watch this kind of video is either because I'm interested in how expensive it is to live in a specific city, or to see how different people manage their money or how they think about spending (or splurging) on things. Like I'm more interested in the thoughts rather than the money spending in itself. Loved your reflection at the end of your old salary. You should be very proud that you can afford an "expensive week" without necessarily going into debt for it

just a few mins into the video and i can totally empathize with the your lens dilemma. once your hard work allows you to break into a higher income bracket, it's so easy to throw cost-benefit analysis out the window and fall into a mindset of "i deserve the best, no matter the cost". settling for anything other than the best feels like such a defeat and can even trigger feelings of inadequacy (am i not good enough?). in the end, you made the decision that will let you sleep easier at night. so that's a win :)

I can tell that the color is way better on the Sony lens than The Sigma. You can probably correct this through editing so you can save that 1k. However, this is a write off for your business so think of it as an investment. I think you should pick the lens base on your own preference. Sony lens tends to pickup more warm toned or color while Sigma lens tends to be more cool tones and less color saturated. I think you should test the lens at night time to see which one perform better. Again, only you would know if you film more during day time or night time. Light can easily be corrected indoors but much more difficult outdoor. I recommend to consider all these before you buy the lens. Love your content by the way. I wish you both the best of 2024! :)

Having been to a lot of K-idol, K-hiphop and K-ballad concerts myself (for prices like ~$100-200 and got gifted to G-Dragon silver VIP once), K-idol tickets are not worth the high prices. They never sing 100% live (a lot of pre-recording or with heavy supporting voices) and they don't dance to their full like they do in their practice rooms and live stages. Sometimes half of the concert is just fan interaction or talk or them walking around.

also question did kevin refresh at noon or did he wait for TM to automatically refresh in the waiting room? I waited like a good girl I am and was at 30k BOTH TIMES (NY and SF) smh
@chloeshih10 ай бұрын
nah we actually joined the waiting room like 20 min before it opened. and then the waiting room opened. we sat there for 20 min. and then 12:00pm hit and we got our spot in line. and then we wait for our time to purchase.

I don’t see a difference between the Sony and sigma camera Chloe I just watch your videos on the side when I’m working so I don’t really notice the picturesque difference

I understand once in lifetime… but for a concert over a lavish vacation instead for that money, or investing it.. it’ll go much much farther. Sell those tickets! You can listen/watch the music.. you can’t for example experience the same emotion as using the $ on longer experiences, future expenses , etc😮

wait a minute, *your whole family* is that good looking?? Wow Chloe, good for you. Those are some genes.

as an older sister who enjoys spoiling her younger brothers, it's also important to remember as they get older that they cannot always depend on you for enjoyments and embellishments in life. It feels good for us tp provide what we didn't have, but on the receiving end it doesn't always hold the same value as it does for the provider and this is just a natural part of the psychology of giving vs receiving! As a married person, I now have to limit the things I used to do and its not only important for you and your husband but valuable for the younger siblings to grow and build their potential too, just like their older sister! lots of love from someone in a similar boat xxx

Forget about spreadsheet and formula. People simply have to rein in their discretionary spending to save big. Very few people can a job that pays as much a PM roles, so the key is to control discretionary spending, which includes everything from rent to food. I’d advise people to live at home till they’re able to generate enough passive income to pay for rent. Buying a house should not be a priority, nor should material goods to satisfy your craving, ie. Dinning out, trips oversea or the latest fashion. Socializing is important, so do budget for that, but don’t go overboard, once a month will suffice. Spending money on an expensive camera lenses is acceptable Chloe, cos it’s actually an investment that help you create your contents, but not $1,000 on event tickets LOL.

how old is the brother? it's kinda nuts you are spending this much on hin kevin is right on this one
@chloeshih5 ай бұрын
he's in college! yeah it was objectively a lot of money. at this point, we just came back from the IU concert a few weeks ago and all of us had an incredible time. i don't regret bringing my brother!
@samanthatslee10 ай бұрын
Ditto on chasing after IU tickets! We were #9000-something and once it's our turn, we didn't find anything within our budget. How my partner and I decided on the price is each shares how much we're willing to pay per ticket. He ended up on the higher end (which we can still afford) and me on the lower end. Then we agreed right in the middle. At the end when it's our turn to check ticket availability and there are none within our range, we peace out, no regrets. We're still checking every day to see if there are resale tickets within our budget!

yo we had like 5 people lining up together and we got 4000, 7000, and the rest got like 60k or 40k. it was crazy!!! were you looking at the inglewood one?
@samanthatslee10 ай бұрын
A friend of mine lined up 5 minutes after me and she was at #90k 😅 Yes, Inglewood! At this point, Oakland might be more achievable 🥲
