These reactors are currently down. Nuclear fuel has been unloaded and many systems have been dismantled. In addition, according to the available data, the turbines and their communications have already been disassembled in the first two of them. Even with the desire of Ukraine, it will not be able to resume their exploitation due to: 1) assumed international obligations 2) physical deterioration and obsolescence of equipment. It will take enormous money to put into operation the third power unit, which even after the upgrade will not be able to work for more than a couple of years, due to its expired service life. Besides this type of reactors can't be safe, because they don't have good protection for reactor core meltdown

Terrible idea. Also RBMK reactors are hopelessly dangerous. The EU refused to allow Lithuania join until it decommissioned its own nuclear plant that was very similar to Chernobyl. Ukraine is looking to join the EU and by restarting Chernobyl they would effectively be blocked from joining or receiving any further aid.

mlc449 rbmk reactors are still being built . They are not dangerous if the personnel is familiar with them . Also the 2 other accidents happened with other types of reactors (Fukushima and USA accidents )

@@type2523 But none of these incidents had such monstrous proportions and consequences. Large territories was abandoned, radiation levels for entire world was increased. After couple of year many liquidators was died due to cancer. Billions were spent to shield the world from this threat. And we still pay for it. And it is not clear, will we ever be able to erase this hellish womb from the face of the earth.

@@alfastalker the fukushima had a level of5 then the made a 7 out of it (same as chnpp) accident, in fukushima 3 exploded not one !and the reactors on the nearby powerplant are still working (same type same risk ) in the usa they use 60 year old reactors, this ones are 30-40 years old, they have plenty of life in them
