For those who say beets are a new, trendy food item, I had a chocolate beet cake at my wedding 7 1/2 years ago. Everyone raved about it, and no one could taste the beets, it was just slightly richer and earthier, like when you add coffee to chocolate cake. It just bumps up the richness of the cocoa, and makes it increasingly moist. I will absolutely be making this cake for my next anniversary!

Made this recipe for a family party this weekend. Turned out really well. I stuck to the given ingredients but cooked it in a loaf tin and layered the ganache (made with butter instead of cream) in the middle as it had to travel. Served sliced with strawberries and clotted cream. Thank you very much for the tutorial.

Looks really moist, good eating. The cake does have a tinge of purple/red to it though, if only slightly.

Splendid. I am a beet girl, I love making beet salad with sesame seeds , beet and sweet potato soup, vibrant homemade purple pasta, beet and strawberry smoothie, and even beet jam; so I think i must give this awesome cake a try

Can't wait to try this. What about using white chocolate or vanilla (instead of chocolate) to bring out the color of the beets? & do you think beets would do well in a red velvet cake? Or too sweet?

gorgeous cake 💗 caution: beets and beet juice will stain countertops, clothing, and some baking tools so keep that in mind.

There is actually 1/2 cup of beets left in the process. So you might want to say “1 1/2- 2 cups of beets depending on how you scrape your food processor”

This looks so good. I'm curious if anyone can tell me why, whenever I made beet bread, the dough is really pink when it goes in the oven but as it bakes the bread goes white, like white bread white. Why does the pink get cooked out?

I was hoping that the beet color would be more pronounced. I still want to try it. Seems much better than all that food coloring in the red velvet cake.

2 cups of flour 1 1/2 cups of sugar 1 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/4th cup cacao powder 3/4th tsp salt Whisk 2 large eggs 3/4ths cup warm water 1/4th cup of oil 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/4th cup beetroot puree Cook for 45 minutes at 350 fahrenheit Glaze: 1/2 cup of cream simmering 3/4th tsp corn syrup 3 ounces semi-sweet chocolate beet chips (not specified) Personally I'm going to try the recipe with either butter or coconut oil instead of vegetable oil. I'm trying to cut seed oils out of my diet.

You can leave it out as it’s only make the ganache to look shiny, nothing else. If you have golden syrup you can use that instead.

In couple of days from now im most certainly making this cake with the ganache...but without the beet chips. I don't get golden beets in my country 😩 That beet coloured Kitchen Aid in the background could have been used to make the batter. Just saying 😋

you can use regular red beets for the chips, those would also give you a beautiful pink sugar syrup!

@@MsScorpyscorp Try a farmers market, sometimes they have pink and white striped beets, though you probably won't find them at this time of year. In my area, those are usually on offer during summer months, probably because they aren't as hardy. they are also super easy to grow, even in a container, if you want a fun project :-P

@@nicolesvrcinova1482 I think the pink/white striped beets are called Chioggia beets, they are so pretty! They would look beautiful as a garnish when they come into season.

Would it still taste good if one used fresh beets? Does it have to be pickled beets?

I don’t know if they check the channel anymore as it does look abandoned, however I would recommend you to use just cooked beetroot. Pickled will be sour and might affect the flavor. Raw beetroot it’s firm and might not give a nice texture. Hope that helped :)

How about using natural instead of dutch processed cacao + a bit of acidity in a cake? It should give it a red hue - that's after all how originally red velvet became red without any colorants :)

Do you think I can use rice flour instead of all purpose flour? I have a friend who is allergic to flour, so I'm always on the search for recipes without flour.

Bilge B. Buy gluten free flour, plain rice flour won't work. Perhaps a mix of almond and coconut flour will work, but research the quantities.

@@Elkycreates That's because of the amount of chocolate in the recipe. Red Velvet cake as a very small amount of cocoa powder compared to the recipe in this video.

aren't those usually in vinegar brine? That would affect the final taste. Where I live, you can buy vacuum packed boiled beets in most supermarkets, try that instead if possible, if you don't want to cook them fresh.

Use applesauce 1/4 cup or a egg replacement. Theirs plenty out their but I prefer redmill... Good luck.. 🤣🤣

you can make a chia or a flax egg by mixing 1 tbs of ground flax/chia seeds with 3 tbs water and set aside for 10-15 minutes.

I thought you need to add something acidic so that baking soda reacts. I swear EVERY time I have cooked something with baking soda, it just turned out horrible because you could actually taste the soda, which precipitates mostly on the bottom part of the dough. What on Earth is going on?

Cocoa powder is acidic, so it reacts with the baking soda. If you could taste the bitter soda in your cake then maybe you put a little too much in it.

Something tells me that an addition of fresh coffee grounds would be a nice touch that could lend some acidity.

It wouldn't be ok to add vegetable oil. Unless is Coconut oil. Don't use that kind of poison. Even butter is way more nutricional without the dangerous effects of vegetables and nuts oils.

Ok so when people say "Earthiness" from the beets what they actually mean is "Dirt Taste", because thats what it is. But it is trendy to eat dirt now so instead I will just eat the beets myself and get more nitric oxide in my system.

Keep away from each year’s food trend and stick with tried and true! Beets are trending now but to put them on a cake is just silly!

The amount of salt you people put in your recipes is too much, you need to add just a tiny pinch of salt, adding so much of salt will just increase the sugar quantity in the recipe..
