Milk Chocolate Taste Test Blindfolded! We've been searching for the best chocolate that is a good convenient go-to chocolate. It's easy to be persuaded on one or the other based on marketing and branding. We wanted to see if our taste buds truly lined up with what we thought our favorite chocolates are! These are chocolates that we find at a lot of stores in Germany and the USA. These chocolates are not all from the USA and Germany, but they appear in a lot of stores and are a convenient go-to! 2018 (oh god I can even say last year anymore) I had a bunch of Lindt Christmas chocolates. And I kept the milka santa until last and I really disliked it when I eventually ate it because it was so much sweeter. Usually I don't dislike milka, but because I had so much of one type of chocolate it tasted wrong. This is super interesting. I really want to try this now! Who knows maybe I really like a type of chocolate I never buy?!🤔🍫😋 Great video guys!

I don't dislike milk chocolate because there's chocolate but because it's so much sweeter I like dark chocolate more. My guess would be the Dove as I like the creamy texture.

You took the wrong brand for Belgian chocolate unfortunately, not a single normal person in Belgium eats Godiva. Next time try Côte D'or, that's the Belgian standard chocolate brand. If possible, try the pralines, those are a real Belgian treat and delicacy!

Well ... As a Child which grew up in an Bakery & Conditory (I told that before) i had several Choclate-Brands all the Time. My Favorite Brands are Lindt, Milka and last but not least Feodora. Especially Lindor from Lindt, Noisette from Milka and the Milk-Nut-Choclate from Feodora. By all of these Brands and Sorts is every Part of the Chocolateproduction very unique! First is the Time of the fermentation process of the Cacao-Beans, which takes up to seven days. Second is the Blending which is essential for the Taste: short Production and replacing natural ingredients is very bad for the Taste. The texture is also heavily influenced by processing, specifically conching. The more expensive chocolate tends to be processed longer and thus have a smoother texture and mouthfeel, regardless of whether emulsifying agents are added. The penultimate process is called conching. A conche is a container filled with metal beads, which act as grinders. The refined and blended chocolate mass is kept in a liquid state by frictional heat. Chocolate prior to conching has an uneven and gritty texture. The conching process produces cocoa and sugar particles smaller than the tongue can detect, hence the smooth feel in the mouth. The length of the conching process determines the final smoothness and quality of the chocolate. High-quality chocolate is conched for about 72 hours, and lesser grades about four to six hours. After the process is complete, the chocolate mass is stored in tanks heated to about 45 to 50 °C (113 to 122 °F) until final processing. Last but not least: The Tempering. Even here the longer it takes the better. It was Rodolphe Lindt who invented the "conche" in Berne, Switzerland, in 1879. A very interesting Story about this you can read in Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conche Also interesting: In 2007, the Chocolate Manufacturers Association in the United States, whose members include Hershey, Nestlé, and Archer Daniels Midland, lobbied the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to change the legal definition of chocolate to let them substitute partially hydrogenated vegetable oils for cocoa butter, in addition to using artificial sweeteners and milk substitutes. Currently, the FDA does not allow a product to be referred to as "chocolate" if the product contains any of these ingredients. In the EU a product can be sold as chocolate if it contains up to 5% vegetable oil, and must be labelled as "family milk chocolate" rather than "milk chocolate" if it contains 20% milk. Most of these Facts about good Chocolate i learned from my Uncle in the 1970th … ;-)

First of all there is some explaining to do here: American and UK brands usually switch the cacao butter (fat from the cacoa beans that make a good part of the smooth flavour) with palm oil or other cheap plant fats. Cacao butter melts at body temperatures and the cheap fats melt at higher temps. So the chocolate keeps easier... but taste fat and bland. 30% cacao is more fat than flavour.. in my humble opinion. I prefer the dark chocolate :-) My all time favorite is the Cote d'Or dark with whole hazelnuts! It soooooo delicious!

When you do, please include Moeser Roth and Aldi-brand (Choceur/Chateau)! These are the two most requested by my family in America, which I send by post in massive amounts every Christmas. The Aldi-brand is the one we always have in the house. Also Ritter Sport makes an awesome dark chocolate with tiny squares, cuz you don't really need more than a tiny square at a time. My favorite American chocolate was always Dove and in Swizerland: Cailler.

Years ago Cadbury was amazing. It's what you grow up with in the UK. However recently I don't touch the stuff! It's disgusting! The company was bought out and the quality dropped significantly. I like nestle branded chocolates and ritter sport the best!

I've done this type of thing twice. I did my own blind taste test of Cola's (Pepsi vs Coke) and bottled water. The cola one I ended up liking Coke more than Pepsi, and with water I ended up liking Dasani the most. It's a fun thing to do.

You get the really good ones from chocolatiers who sell them unwrapped. There are many good ones in CH like Cailler, Sprungli, Laderach and many other more local makers with little shops. Expensive though but worth it. The industrial ones are usually not that great, except perhaps for Suchard and Cailler.

Lindt does taste good at first but then the artificial taste after kills it! (all Lindt products have artificial flavoring added) Milka is the most bought chocolate in Germany, it does taste good, but with the added artificial flavors, it's disappointing! (you can add gasoline to a product and name it 'artificial flavor')... however the best chocolate of course is Ritter Sport with no artificial ingredients, and the taste is FANTASTIC! I have tried all of their types of chocolate, and I don't like marzipan or menthol, but they taste great with Ritter Sport milk chocolate. My favorite is Praline / Nougat. Other brands (Hersheys, Cadburry, Godive, Dove) should be ashamed to call their products CHOCOLATE :D

I generally prefer dark chocolates. Milk chocolate is ok, but not that great IMO. Ritter Sport is all about the different types and fillings for me. Other brands just can't compete with the variety there. If I want plain chocolate I can get that cheaper elsewhere Milka is kind of Swiss & German & American. The founder was Swiss but the main factory and headquarters has been in Germany for over a century (right at the border). And in the 1990s they were bought by American Kraft Foods/Mondelez

Godiva really isn't a fair representation of Belgian chocolate. It's intended for pralines, in which the filling the is main flavour. For a real Belgian chocolate, get Côte d'Or or Callebaut.

Ritter Sport tastes ok, the quality is average (mass goods). Lindt is more expensive, but the quality of taste is clearly higher. The best chocolates you can buy in Belgium, there are many fantastic Chocolatiers around Grand Place in Brussels. A temptation for the taste-nerves...

Is the Cadbury from UK or is it the one made by Hershey? The UK version is great. The Hershey version... Not so much. Also, all the big Mondelez brands are Not as good as they used to be, imho. Especially true for Milka, Toblerone, Marabou. Ritter Sport is the best currently, again imho of course.

Nussbeißer is my favourite...though this might be more the nuts than the chocolate….and I have a thing for Katzenzungen, somehow. Though I never buy them myself because there is so little in the huge packaging. Not surprised that the German chocolate did better in your test overall, also not surprised that Phil rated Milka so high, he seems to like it if stuff is, well, on the sweeter side. I think he overthought the Lindt one, though. The expensive variant is better, but the cheaper one isn't THAT bad. But yeah, the brand influences our perception. That has been proven again and again.

I lived in the States for a year as an exchange student and I remember buying Lindt Chocolate because I didn't like the American brands. They were too sugary for my taste. I visited England once and I didn't like the chocolate there either. I love the German and Belgian brands best and then Swiss chocolate! Too bad here those brands are super expensive and I get to buy them once in a blue moon. I'm from Argentina and the chocolate here is OK, but it is not great.

It would have been a little more revealing if you made a comparison test either in the order of respective increasing or decreasing rating. So you could adjust the different kinds up or down compared to the next one. Also a cleansing of the tastebuds after each tested brand by drinking water (better sparkling) to neutralized the aftertaste. I know Cadbury from my youth (60s) as a very tasty chocolate. Never had it afterwards due to availability. Today I think Möser Roth by Aldi is quite good. At least some flavors. Ritter is also quite nice but nothing special. Never eat any other and chocolate per se not often (2 - 3 bars per year) anyway.

Try the Francois Pralus "Melissa" (their milk choco option). There are many French choco bars from smaller producers available in fine grocery stores or their own shops that are excellent & not too expensive. Maybe 20-30% more than big industrial brands, totally worth it.

Ich meine, die hat sogar mehr Kakao, wenn wir von der gleichen sprechen. Die hatte ich immer vom Aldi. Wirklich ein Geschmacksfeuerwerk, wenn man die Schokolade zusammen mit einem Schluck halbtrockenem Rotwein in den Mund nimmt und sie dann langsam schmilzt. Da reicht echt ein einziges Stückchen am Abend und selbst der beschissenste Tag ist wieder gerettet. Wer es nicht kennt, probiert es einfach mal. Ein Hochgenuss.

30% cocoa content means it's mostly fat and sugar, around 50% is where it actually starts to taste like chocolate 😜 You should try the Lindt Excellence Chili, it's a good chocolate to start exploring the high % ones. And the chili gives it a nice little kick.

As a German living in the UK I always get judged for disliking Cadbury chocolate. My boyfriend always gets it and he knows I’d never steal it from him 😄 Now that it’s getting closer to Easter everyone is getting excited again about the Cadbury Creme Egg (though a little less than usual due to isolation). I’d rather not have chocolate at all than that!

Do it again with cocoa solids higher than 70 %. Then it's actual chocolate. I do not recommend Godiva, here in Belgium we don't really go for that chocolate. The most bought brand over here is Côte d'Or. And Milka of course, but I don't like it because it makes me feel queasy afterwards (it makes you feel somewhat deflated) That always happens when I eat milk chocolate. Even more with Milka or Cadbury.

I'm German and live in GB, Cadbury is the famous British brands, it's terrible. Having grown up with Milka, I never eat Cadburys. They even cannot call it chocolate, or sth, as according to European law, it does not qualify, as it has not enough cocoa butter content!! This was such an interesting video to watch!
