I am preparing to try this for the first time. One of the sprinkles I bought to use is Heath toffee bits. They come in a bag just like chocolate chips. I am also planning to do a version with those square, checkerboard pretzels by putting a dot of caramel on top, putting a pecan on top, and covering with chocolate, like a "turtle" with a pretzel base.

Hi! I love the way your pretzels came out. I have a question…when you melt your chocolate, did you add oil to it ?
@mariabrown8015

Hi, no I did not add anything it it. just melt the chocolate. Some additives will ruin chocolate.

Here is my latest, with pretzel bites! I thought they were ingenious because you can take "just a bite" if you want. But, I do explain white chocolate better here. Sometimes (some) white chocolates need a little help softening. i really like the Ghirardelli brand for all the chocolates flavors. it works great. (I really dislike the fake chocolate wafer. Not chocolate, and no flavor.) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWHZqYmYicpqa7s

Don't be nervous Davidia. It will be fine! They are easy! And they keep for a good week in an airtight container. (Don't refrigerate!!) Probably longer, but they are never around long enough to know...……… I wrap them in cellophane bags and put a little ribbon around it to close the bag, and give them as gifts. The bag also helps keep them fresh. (In a pinch, you could even wrap them in kitchen plastic wrap and put a bow/ribbon on that too.) If you have any specific questions, reach out. I'm here. -Maria

@mariabrown8015
@mariabrown8015 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Diana, thank you for your question! In my opinion, the back is even better because it's got extra yummy base (from laying them down to dry). Gosh I wonder if you can see any of the backs from the thumbnail picture because I just plopped them into different glasses. You might be able to see some backs too.It's so easy, quick and beautiful this way. I have been making these for years and years and no one has ever said they wish I'd flipped them over. Oh, I've done it both ways in the past, when I first started making them. I've flipped them over and decorated the back too, but it's really not necessary. It just adds time. (justluvme7, below, mentioned that she's made others in the past and it took forever.) I put them in little cellophane bags and give them out as gifts. Everyone LOVES them. People look forward to them every year. (I've even had soccer coaches eat other coach's pretzels, even when they had their own!) I hope you give them a try! -Maria

Hey Maria....any suggestions how to package , say 4 to 5 sticks to give as little tasty gifts?
@mariabrown8015
@mariabrown8015 5 жыл бұрын
R Hudson, hi, yes! There are a couple of things you could do: you could buy little cellophane snack bags (you might find those in the Wilton aisle of say a target or Walmart or Kmart) and just tie those up with ribbon. They look beautiful. The other thing you can do is you literally can wrap them up in a saran type plastic wrap. It’s not quite as fancy as the little cellophane bags, but they do look acceptable/presentable! You could also make them look nice just by tying a ribbon around them as well!

Thanks for the reply Maria....I'll take a pic when I'm done....I'm making 250 sticks.
@mariabrown8015
@mariabrown8015 5 жыл бұрын
Fantastic! 250 is quite a bit at one time. They are not too hard. After you get used to it, you'll be making a whole tray in no time. Try to go at least half-way up the stick with the coating (chocolate or caramel). That's the part people will eat. While drying, leave enough room in between so that they don't stick together. (Don't refrigerate to dry, they dry pretty quickly on their own.)I'm getting ready to make more myself. Experiment with the different topping, and have fun with it!

Hi DeAna, that is just a plastic 2 cup measuring cup that I’ve had for so many years. I just looked on it and there is no brand name. It’s a little taller and a little thinner than a Pyrex but it’s still a 2 cup measure. I see a bunch of different options on Amazon. To get one similar, I’d say to look for one that’s a little taller and thinner as opposed to the Pyrex that are wider at the top.

Hi Sherry, I’m sorry I did not respond yet! Store them in an airtight container at room temperature. Do not put them in the refrigerator! I wrap them in little cellophane bags with a twist tie and put a ribbon around it. The cellophane bag also helps to keep them fresh. How does the caramel stick to the pretzels? I made some & the caramel just oozed off...disaster! 😔
@mariabrown8015
@mariabrown8015 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Oh no! What kind of caramel did you use? I've only tried Kraft individually wrapped caramels. In this video it was my first time trying caramel base, though I've successfully used it again. (Kraft's little unwrapped caramel balls are NOT the same ingredients, so I stuck with the regular caramels and unwrapped them.) The type of caramel you used may have made the difference. I just made a new batch/flavor of the most DELICIOUS pretzel rods using caramel and had no issue with oozing off. I even double dipped them. (I already started editing that video and will get it out shortly.) I do notice that the caramel takes much LONGER to dry than chocolate does, so next time I'll experiment with using just a little less evaporated milk to see how that reacts. (Right now I mix in 1/2 cup evaporated milk with 1 bag of caramels and it works great, but takes a long time to dry, so I'm going to try 1/3 cup evaporated milk/bag to see what happens.)
@mamatomisskimmierose6597

@@mariabrown8015 I used the Kraft bag (the ones you used) 😁 I melted them but did not use any evaporated milk. Guess I'll try that now!!! Thanks for the quick response😘
@mariabrown8015
@mariabrown8015 4 жыл бұрын
I think for now I would stick with that 1/2 cup evaporated milk because I have not yet experimented with 1/3 cup. The caramel takes a good hour to dry. Maybe more depending on humidity. You can double dip it when it’s fairly dry to the touch.

That is such a great idea! I don’t think they will melt at all. Roll each one individually in Saran Wrap. That will keep them neater, and easier to transport. An added bonus for the kids will be if any of the topping falls off it will be caught inside the saran wrap and they can eat all that as well, which they will want to do! Oh, the kids are going to love them! (Make sure you do not use nuts for topping. Lots of nut allergies.) There are plenty of other toppings you can use. Kids love sprinkles. Have fun!
