We would make a similar cake in the UK while away at university, without access to an oven it's a great way to make a treat from a few basic ingredients

You can also use butternut snaps with pineapple and cream - also good in an Australian summer!!

The diagonal cut is essential. Not nearly as lovely when cut straight. I love Chocolate Ripple Cake. Sublimely delicious!

If I put the cookies vertically, they won't be horizontal when I cut the cake. What didn't I understand?

I thought the same thing, but I figured out they are cutting at an angle which captures the layers

Diagonal cuts. The first cut gives either an extra small or an extra big piece. (As does the last.) so cut like this / not like this l

Cut the first piece on a fairly sharp angle, not straight across. As you progress cutting, the angle grows steeper, and it looks like the one in the video. It's really easy (and delicious).

The secret is cutting it on an angle. It's a bit confusing but it really does work. Enjoy!
