My son has begged to have his friend, who is black sleep over. I’ve asked his mom so many times over the years. She eventually said yes-they’re 15 now. You bet I went out of my way to make sure he enjoyed himself! We let them do whatever they wanted -basically stay up and play video games and eat all night. Made a special breakfast in the morning after letting them sleep in nice and late. I wanted him to go home and say he wanted to come back again! Made me happy to hear them having a good time. Warmed my heart. ❤️

You're another one of the good ones. Black parents don't do anything to help their kids make/strengthen friendships.
@Drew_Hawk2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRedGameboy I'm European and black. That's kinda wrong to say that. I have 4 kids and I don't act like that. I treat there friends like family. Make food, have games for everyone ect. Don't put everyone in the same group. You said black parents, should be some black parents.
@TheRedGameboy2 жыл бұрын
@TheHawk545 I partly misspoke, but you need to sensibly decipher that generalities are not hailed as absolute. I don't have to highlight every damn nation where my point is valid. This comic was a navy kid, but clearly based in the USA, and in N. America, the attentiveness of parents has often been weak... long before smartphones caused parents to give less attention to kids as they sink into their screens instead of teaching their kids to befriend new faces. The phone thing applies among most races, as I see regularly as I hike, jog passed, or workout at outdoor parks, in multiple cities, states, provinces, and countries in Europe, N. America, and Africa in the last 15 years, so I have a much bigger sample pool to reference than just 1-2 families. They're more involved in Chile and, based on the culture, probably in more places in S. America. If the neglect is common across races, then it will be compounded for a race that typically has it harder socioeconomically. THOSE families account for the majority, and are not posting cute KZbin shorts about being awesome parents, cause they're just gettin by. I'm proud of you being a better parent, but realize what YOU are spouting is purely anecdotal in nature and neglecting your circumstance and better values. From the part of the world you're in, whether you had the financial means to provide AND parent, the self-awareness to not repeat the neglect of your predecessors, and the biggest of all: in what era you started parenting. There's a big positive shift in Black parenting for the last 12+ years. Based on the age of the comic, which ain't far off from me, we're talkin about a different time, but the social change hasn't changed things for most families. It's a misguided flex for you to talk about yourself, when you aren't the same regional, and hence cultural, demographic as the standup comic, or the Black audience members that counted down "THREEEEEE".

I’m Chinese, my parents are US immigrants. My first sleepover was at a half white half Iranian girl’s house. She was my middle school best friend. Although she was brought up Muslim and went to Farsi school (dad side), culturally she was basically white (mom side). And my experience was similar to what some of y’all have shared. What a strange feeling to have adults talk to you with respect, listen to your concerns, ask about your life goals, ask for your opinion. Oh, and I discovered I loved orange juice from the carton (not the concentrated stuff from a frozen tube that I grew up with, where you had to mix with water). And so many snacks available for the taking. And games and toys. Amazing! I was over at their house a lot and once in a while I’d even be there by myself while my best friend and her sister attended after school classes. I would just do my homework until they returned and then we’d play or work on a project together. When my best friend found out I’d never had a birthday party with friends, her family threw a small one for me with a few of my closest friends. It was a surprise. And they didn’t skimp on the cake. They bought me a cake from a nice bakery, like the kind of cake my friend would have for her own birthday. I’ve lost touch with them and my friend and I grew apart. But I’ll always remember their kindness to a little girl when she needed it most. (My family loved me but they couldn’t provide the emotional support I needed)

My best friend and his mom, my godmother, are Italian. Her family owned a newspaper stand inside of a prominent hotel in my hometown and when I'd go over on Friday or Saturday night, she'd come home at like 1-130 in the morning, but with like a big ass bag of candy and Pepsi. So we got absolutely sugar shocked out of our minds and would be up until damn near daybreak and then sleep in until 1-2pm in the afternoon. She was cool as hell. I remember asking her years later as an adult why she was so cool with my Black ass being in her house loud and stuff...she said, 'first off, I love you like my own. But second of all, if you're here, that means you and Brandon weren't out there doing God knows what!'. I never forgot that. It's jokes and all, but she gave me a place to just be a kid without all that stress we know we got from my moms in the house. Love her more than life, but she was dealing with a lot, something familiar to a lot of Black moms. And because of that, I learned some damn manners and organically respected her space as a result. So shoutout and much love to my second mom Dona for being the realest white lady who ever lived.

It is funny to contrast the upbringing of Blacks and Whites. I went to a predominately White school from 1st to 12th grade, so I grew up with Blacks in the neighborhood, and Whites at school. One of my closest White friends invited me to his home in elementary and it was a cultural shock to me. He had signs like “STOP” and “Knock Before Entering”, on his bedroom door! And his parents actually did!!!!! I was forbidden to close my bedroom door, and so were all of my friends. One of my homies refused to comply, and one day he got home and his door was off the hinges. Like “close that shit now, MF-er!” My White friends would get angry and tell their parents that they hated them! I was afraid I’d go home and get my ass beat just for listening to that! Different world!

They had a dope house and toys because the dad was a corporate lawyer or something so that part was cool at least. I did find out later that the dad was an alcoholic so I think there was a lot of trauma and dysfunction going on in the family.
