I got to perform Carmina Burana during my junior year for choir. Both the high schools in my town got their choirs, orchestras and bands together and after 3 months of practise we put on a performance around Christmas time. We even had students from the university choir do the solos. It was incredible! I got to be a first soprano and hit notes is never attempted before. It was really challenging.

Auntiewhnor Kpolie Spanish, French, and Italian actually. They're all decended from Latin, while English is a Germanic language with totally separate roots. Latic has heavily influenced all the European languages other than Slavic, so known any of those is better than starting from, say, Chinese or Russian.
@Donutswithlazerz10 жыл бұрын
+otakumage While English did descend from a Germanic, there are still Latin roots in English... Although I don't know why the previous replies mentioned that because the 1st comment seemed to be speaking English...
@Amridell10 жыл бұрын
Donutswithlazerz Rather, the reason people think English is descended from Latin is from French influence, which, as mentioned, is a Latin language. So there's a lot of Latin rooted words we borrowed from French, Spanish, Italian, etc. And then actual Latin words we incorporate.

How does one add so much fire into notes... Amazing emotions... Did you know that Carmina Burana is based upon 24 poems from the 12th century... And when he presented the piece in 1937 he said... Everything I have written to date, and which you have, unfortunately, printed, can be destroyed. With Carmina Burana, my collected works begin... Awesome, dark, even the nazi regime didnt know how to react to this new emotion, the dark erotic undertones...

In 2011 800.000 pupils in Germany had Latin in school. Approx. 9% of all pupils and nearly 50% of the ones visiting a Gymnasium (academic high school - the normal route to university in Germany). At the time when these texts (not the music) were written down, Latin was in Germany the teaching language used at universities and the language of the high administration. Important documents of this time are all in Latin.

Good grief. Everyone in the 1% club is way too rich and powerful - and way too busy staying rich and powerful - to bother forming any stupid conspiracy about anything. They snap their fingers and tax laws are changed to favor them, existing laws that might rein in their excesses are not enforced, and the employee class is manipulated by Ruper Murdoch and his colleagues to focus on reality television instead of organizing and taking power. Don't waste your time looking for conspiracies; spend your time organizing and working to change and enforce progressive tax laws.

I love this song, but I must say a couple of things: the translation is not accurate and the words with "-ci-" are being mispronounced by London Symphony Orchestra. I hope this doesn't seem pedantic, it's just that I'm a little perfectionist.

@EmmanuelGoldsteinINGSOC11 жыл бұрын
That's a little too simplified... WAY too simplified actually. If you understand even the slightest bit of Latin then you know that the English translation is very inacurate and that it DOES have deeper meaning than what you just said.
@Tozzie5011 жыл бұрын
Emmanuel Goldstein All I have learned is that latin shouldn't be taken too seriously, as many words were often misspelled and that was the way everyone talked. And yes, it might be wrong, but we don't spend the entire class discovering the deeper meaning of such a thing, there's more important things to learn (like grammar and words). I often try to find the deeper meaning behind things like movies, stories and poems, but not an ancient latin poem as it isn't sure that that deeper meaning is hiding behind it.

Emmanuel Goldstein But can you still tell me the deeper meaning, just as proof? :)

Tosca Greenwood You are an American aren't you? I am saying that because what you are saying mainly applies to Americans. Anyway, you should READ the Carmina Burana - since it is a book and not a song after all and it isn't entirely in Latin - it is mainly in German and was written by Germans. And Germans don't have an issue with correctly pronouncing Latin, cause the pronounciation in German and Latin is exactly the same.

Emmanuel Goldstein No, I'm not an American, I'm from Holland. And it's a little rude to immediately assume a person is from a certain country, regardless of what country it is. I'm not going to read the carmina burana. Why, you ask? Well, I'm a teenage student who doesn't give a fuck. Sorry, had to get that out there. Also, I knew it was a book, I knew it wasn't a song, I knew who made this dramatic version of it because my teacher explained that to me and in my previous comment it was clear I was talking about a poem. I don't get that last sentence, what does that have to do with anything?

This is honestly a cool piece to learn. I'm glad to have performed this with my university choir and to be learning the rest of the songs in Carmina Burana. O Fortuna was apparently played during half time during the Super Bowl which is honestly impressive.

Yes, medieval Latin I believe. If you speak Spanish, French, Portuguese you can relate some words.
