Obama is the reason we have Trump. We had the most divisive president in history with Obama. And that got people so pissed off that they voted in a guy who would return Obama slapping them in the face with Trump bludgeoning his own critics with a crowbar. It’s a way of settling the score by use of excessive punitive action. And the media are the cheerleaders and instigators. The question is when will it end? When will we see past the craziness of it all? That this can’t go on forever without there being a civil war.

I don't think you can break sand, do you? Exactly, you can't. Having a GDP that goes well beyond what is expected doesn't make a country rich, having an increased GDP however, is synonimous to "class" distinction, making poor poorer and rich richer. With logic you can see things as they are: Rich people will buy what the poor can't, meaning building more industries and things like walmart and so on. People that seek a job need to work so they may start an enterprise their own, if they wish, but that is really hard because they don't have as many choices as the ones that came before did. Meritocracy? Why is meritocracy a thing today- "I worked so that I can afford a house and other things too" but how come people that also wish these things cannot have them without being in danger, meaning they survive paycheck to paycheck? Maybe it's because people use other people to work, giving them just what they need to get by. To me, it's already ruined, and with time, will be born again

Well, even if you democratise the institutions operating inside a market, the potentially dangerous inefficiencies that are inherent to a market system itself still remain. Market transactions simply don't account for other affected parties. The marginal external effect may in fact be negligible, but the aggregate effect may be very significant.
@Tannhauser10812 жыл бұрын
Well what I'm trying to say is that even one 'microeconomic' action - like one transaction of a good between a consumer and a producer - affects a multitude of people though it may be imperceptible at that tiny scale. If one person buys and uses a car, the effect on the world in terms of pollution is insignificant, but if that one becomes one million, then the effect becomes both perceptible and significant. This inefficiency seems to hold in any market system. I think it's inherently flawed.

I am starting to learn about Bayesian theory. According to richard carrier/youtube etc, it will bring me to realize for example in this case, how (masters of) governments utilized it to end ww2. Anyone please if you know, where does Chomsky specifically tie in the theory. Thanks.

I get where you're confused. Prager is reading from a card so his speech is unbroken. Zinn is actually responding to the questions from memory so he has alot of breaks in his responses. It doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's talking about. Prager basically just argues semantics with Zinn for the entire video. He also apologized for the US killing of Indian tribes saying "we wouldn't be where we are today if we hadn't."

@zombyfrank "Sounds like you are starting with the assumption that all governments are illegitimate" Not exactly. The state is illegitimate, not "government" per se. When we use the words interchangeably, then yes, they mean the same thing and "government (the state)" is illegitimate because it is a monopoly of force. When we contrast the state with government of a voluntary nature, then we are referencing two entirely different things. The difference is one is a monopoly and the other isn't.

Obama care ? Obama didn't care. Bet he liked the kickbacks he got from the insurance industry though. The elephant in the room on universal health coverage is the insurance agencies have to be eliminated from the equation. Then we might be able to make an affordable health care act !

@hippydog123 "What are you referring to that Chomsky said, what part?" I just gave you the video. Here's a clue. If you watch it and listen, sometime between the beginning and the end you will hear Chomsky refer to fur traders and fishermen. This is the part that I reference when I refer to Chomsky talking about fur traders and fishermen.

@Tim1101 Part 2. Gitmo can't be closed until the detainees are either tried or placed in an alternate facility. Congress hasn't coopoerated on alternate facilities because of the NIMBY issue, despite the fact that other terror suspects have been in CONUS facilities for YEARS. And how do you try someone when the previous administration obtained testimony by torture, which is inadmissable in civilian courts? And where do you hold the trials? Again, the NIMBY argument.

Hi is an academic scholar who has spent his life working for it. But, what does that have to do with ANYTHING he says? He is not against people being wealthy, he is against people being leached by big business. Different distinctions.

Chomsky often refers to "the business press". Being a non-American, I am interested in knowing exactly what newspapers and magazines and no on he is talking about. It seems that if you want in on the discourse of those who are ruling the world right now, that is the place to look. So, any ideas?

bill grant LOL he never even mentioned them. Classic knee jerk reactionary what-aboutism, I bet you get a lot of that from Fox. All the main stream media bullshitters are not to be trusted - totally self interested. You have to look to the few truly knowledgeable and honest out there like Chomsky. You can’t get much truth on TV or the radio friend, something I suspect the previous commenter realizes, which is why he wasn’t the one to mention them.

The "crony" of some big corporations is the government. Huge companies can hire teams of lawyers and accountants to deal with new regulations; upstart competitors cannot. The government picks winners and losers in the marketplace, something they have no business doing, especially if it means co-signing all our names to loans for batty enterprises like wind and solar, the Im-Ex bank, and a host of other things we will be on the hook for. We should have learned this from the housing mess.

@CytherLynx I read the Wikipedia citation for Austrian economics, which proves its softness as a science; methodology being hard to test and model because of the variability of human behavior. The fact that Hazlitt was a friend of Ayn Rand sent up a warning flag. I don't believe in laissez-faire capitalism because doing do basically anthropomorphizes the market and compels everyone to act in obeisance to it. I am also leary of the concept of corporate personhood in the absence of regulation

You are mistaken. With the exception of 2009,-0.34%, we have seen positive inflation every year since 1956. My point was that economically conservative policies were more effective at enlivening stagnated economies. Yes it took 2 years before Reagan's policies kicked it in, that is hardly a discredit to his policies. The larger economy also employed more and that was good for workers, as there were more of them under Reagan.

That whole scenario was a waste of time - all candidates in any election promise what they would like to see happen - it's up to the voter to understand this - and still we'll vote for the person who holds more closely our own ideology - this all goes without saying - but still people complain when very little of anything gets done - if the moneys good times are good and the rest gets swept under the carpet, for the most part -
