As a guitar player in the same genre I just wanted to say to the drummer: Dude you don't go unnoticed and I think your extremely under appreciated when people talk about GOOD modern drummers. I'm not a drummer but damn I'm feeling ya every time I listen to chon. People need to open their ears just a we bit more cause dude is killing it. Songs sound great by the way guys and the new bass player is just grooving.

Brenan Wayland why don’t they let him record? Also do you know which ones he has recorded?
@RuinerXL5 жыл бұрын
Brian Evans (Nathan's drum teacher) tracks drums for nearly all of Chon's recorded material. Nathan did record five of the tracks on Grow and four on Homey (check discogs.com and Wikipedia for specifics). The band has never commented on the rationale for having Brian record the majority of the tracks, outside of saying that they enjoy collaborating with him and other musicians such as Anthony Crawford, who has recorded (and likely composed) all of the bass guitar parts on the last two albums. Although Nathan is a phenomenal drummer in his own right, it can be inferred that they may be using Brian to record some of the technically tougher material. It also stands to reason that Brian is actually composing and/or improvising a lot of what you hear on the albums.

Chon is my favorite modern band, Return to Forever is one of my biggest influences….jazz fusion….to hear Mario Camarena say that RTF is one of their influences, as a guitarist really excites me.
@QuincyJamesMusic2 жыл бұрын
It’s VERY apparent, Especially given that Mario has cited many Pianists in a variety of groups as some of his biggest influences within his playing, one most notable being Tigran Hamasayan. As a guitarist myself I can relate, I feel as though the phrasing on piano compared to guitar is super unique and I love applying motifs originally for piano over the instrument.

I always loved their guitar tones. Mario's compressed but it sounds like the tone is slightly rolled off but the clarity is still there and Erik's is a dash brighter/livelier on the treble end. They compliment each other so well in tone not just their playing. It's almost like they have had the same guitar teacher, same influences, and have been playing and touring together for 15 years.
