Why is there so much smog? Is there a large number of factories near Chongqing?

There is pollution there - it's a very big city with lots of industry. But actually a lot of the thick air is fog. It's apparently always been like this in this region. It's high up in mountains. I found it quite comfortable to be there - I didn't notice any smog effects, just very thick air.

+Kan Kan could say 10%pollution and 90% fog. Chongqing's weather used to be like this, and it was famous as the 'Foggy City'.However it is unlike the smog in the Northern China, it definately dose no harm to your health.

Thank you very much friend, Excellent explanation to clarify my doubts ... I understand that in northern China , including Beijing there are health problems by pollution...It must be hard to have to live wearing a mask to protect themselves from contaminacion

chongqing is the fog city in China since thousands of years ago cuz it's located in a mountain and there're lots of clouds. It's not like the smog in Beijing or Shanghai, the fog is there even before it's developed.
