Does the linx allow you to change the cutout angle? I don't see a situation where you would be at that angle and not want it to cut out. Unless it was because of the angle of the slope making it look less angled.

Dude, ty for posting this. I have 2700 miles on my EXN and still get wobbles from time to time especially when needing to brake hard over 35MPH. I can see where you stopped carving, like you had your weight distributed evenly over both petals and you started to wobble, tried to correct it, but it was too late. I can see where you "break concentration" with the wheel. You came out of that zone where we're one with the wheel. You're a great teacher and a great rider. I had nobody to learn from other than YT when I got my wheel. You are a big reason I ride like I do. It's great to see other good riders still deal with wobbles and it's great to hear you talk about it. I came say thank you enough for posting this. I learned a lot about what I've already had to deal with and you had a great camera angle to the whole thing! Keep posting, dude!!

Yeah. It's strange how the kickstand is built as a fixed piece of metal that sticks out rather than be designed to lock up and lock down. The obvious benefit is not only to avoid shin-shredding but also removing any possibility of it catching on objects such as rocks, tree roots, and steps, etc.

Another thing you can do to protect your shin is wearing full neck boots. People say you can't feel the wheel with those and impede mobility, but once you wear them enough and get used to them, it will feel the same. In fact, I feel naked without full neck boots now. It's like anything else in life. People complained about ski goggles when skiing. Get used to them and you can see things fine. Same thing for some people saying helmets impede their mobilities/fov/comfort level etc...

You did a great job of keeping your head on and laying back once you saw the death wobble couldn’t be corrected. This same exact accident ended my wheel riding forever. Back when uni’s were in their infancy and beginning to get fast I got into this same situation but it being my first high speed crash I didn’t keep my head at all. I face planted on 110° asphalt and broke both arms. My helmet protected my head but did little for my face. I had other injuries but I’d rather not even go into it. I think you did as well as can be expected to control and minimize the fall. Great job bro!

Speed wobble comes from nerves not actual speed. Stability is key and the faster tou go the more inportant it is. At speeds of 40+ the slightest movement in your feet or legs will be multiplied significantly to the board (in this case unicycle) Dont be afraid, always commit, if you start to feel shaky immediately solidify your stance. I imagine a unicycle is a bit different from a skateboard, but hope it helps

@PerpetualMan22 again, the key isn't a lack of stability. It's nerves and movement at all at high speed. Bicycles, still get speed wobble. Handlebars are more dangerous than they are worth on a unicycle.

@@GrimmReaper138 Yep. There was a study maybe 20 or 30 years ago that found American motorcyclists tended to experience worse speed wobbles than European riders. IIRC, it was about how Americans grip tighter and try to control it while Europeans tended to have a looser grip. Since humans aren't capable of reacting fast enough, corrections make it worse. When stopping in a straight line You may try rotating your hip forward as if you were doing a dead lift (said squat originally) while slowing down in a straight line. Weaving/carving is great if you have space but if straight line deceleration I found this works really well. When you tighten your lower back and push your pelvis forward it stabilizes your legs (the cause of the wobble) and reduces/eliminates the effects of the wobble.

@@matchingchong I said a squat but meant dead lift though the final movement are the same. you are activating your glutes and lower back. You can practice with heavy objects/weights to get a feel for it.

Good to see someone talking about the sharp edges on recent EUC designs. I've had a low speed crash cut into a tendon just because a soft TPU handle hit it wrong. Since one of our local riders lost his life on a lynx, I'm still not sure how it damaged his helmet so bad, but a heavy wheel dropping edge first is like a battle axe.

Great video and advice. I agree, hard breaking going fast downhill is one of the hardest techniques to master, especially in urban traffic when it's not easy to set up because of instant reaction being necessary and sometimes it's this 'hasty' movement falling into the break that triggers the wobbles and one must either by practice or keeping a cool head, learn the technique, adapting to the wheel, 'slower' is sometimes faster. Dude, that's exactly what happened to me! I tried to grab the front handle at the last second and pull back, but my right foot came off at the same time. I broke my foot, and been 10 days since I could get on at all, but I finally did it yesterday and today! I'll be able to ride again for sure. I was worried. Thank goodness you're OK! I've had 2 wobble crashes on the Lynx! I'm definitely gonna take it easier until I don't have those problems at all. Its too easy to go too fast. I gotta respect it more. 1 wheeled motorcycle for sure!

I see your shoulders are opposite mine. Learning the eccentricities of the Inmotion V13 taught me to turn my shoulders into the curve, vs what you have is out of the curve. You're putting your inside shoulder ahead, vs I put my inside shoulder behind. I've found this shoulder movement eliminates wobbles, even without carving.

On my Sherman-S and other wheels, I usually position my feet forward, pushing into the front pads. But on the Lynx this led to wobbling. I had to adjust my stance to put my feet back as much as I can, pushing my calfs into the break pads. Along with a gentle carve at all times, this gets rid of all wobbling. Loving the high pedals. When I get back onto my OG Sherman I feel like my feet are going to hit the ground.

I don't know if it's the same for unicycle. But on a motorcycle, speed wobble usually occurs when you hit a slight bump at significant speeds. Anyways thanks for sharing. I'm glad your crash was something you can walk away from, and there's not too much damage to your wheel.

Glad you're okay! A GT Pro definitely would've taken a bigger bite out of you with that pointy handle... I'm a little late to the party, but I must mention that higher pedal height (to a certain extent) is more stable than lower. I've learned this from riding my OG Sherman and Sherman S. The S is more stable because the leverage the wheel needs to overpower me is more than the OG. The best way I can describe it is: imagine you are tightening a bolt, would you rather use a screwdriver or a wrench? The wrench. The Sherman S, with the higher pedal height, is the wrench. The lowering kit does have some extra benefit, though: easier mount/dismount, easier acceleration and deceleration.

After 600 miles on my Lynx I had my first wobble just like that. I accelerated up to high speed and then I let up and I wasn't carving and I let the wheel roll nice and straight while I was standing tall. The wobble comes on fast and it comes on hard! I leaned way back and did a hard momentary brake and then leaned forward and accelerated and got out of it at the last second. The rubber was scratching on the asphalt left and right at the height of the wobble. It was super close. Thanks for this video because it reinforces what I did wrong. I'm still a bit of a noob. I've lowered my tire pressure a bit and keeping my speeds under 35.

Happens on v11 too when I was new. My solution I learned was to fall back on a backward lean with some weight behind it. It will significantly slow down and eliminate wobble. Done with practice, but it worked all the time for me. I realized if I just stood up and tried to squeeze it, or ride it though, it would try to continue wobbling.

Chooch the reason you fell is your legs were tired from too much stress. Bro u were riding at high speeds and corning hard on them all so your nerves needed a 3 min rest and I bet u would have had a 80% success on that turn.

Nah - clearly downhill braking wobbles. This would happen on fresh or fatigued legs He needed to either keep carving while braking to prevent the wobbles or briefly sped up to undo the wobbles, and then re-brake.

Uneven pressure applied to the pedals does. Tired/strained muscles will do exsactly that, only otherthing helping is to sit on your euc to rest your legs. @@JDAM-bi1sn You clearly have no idea what youre talking about. Motorcycles have the same issue. They get wobbles. Is it because their feet or arms are tired? Absurd. Im an engineer. Ive dealt with wobbles. They dont occur because of fatigue. You dont understand the physics here, clearly. Motorcycles often have dampeners put on their steering to deal with wobbles. Going down hill often helps generate wobbles because it makes you brake. Braking turns a spinning disc into a spinning ball - thus the wobble. Wobbles can occur for many reasons, but they are not triggered by tired legs. This makes no sense at all. I have 10,000 miles on EUC's. Never got a wobble from fatigue. Lots of wobbles from KNOWN REASONS - and fatigue isnt one of them. Chooch even explained this. He needed to keep carving to help prevent the wobble. He was braking because of a sharp turn he was approach. That initiated the wobble, not fatigue. A motorcycle could have experienced this for the same reason - which proves fatigue isnt the issue.

Very informative, thank you for sharing that with us so we can learn from each others mistakes. When riding at speed, using the front 1/3 of your foot no longer works functionally. What I've learned in my time riding at high speeds 40mph< is think about reaching for your heel closest tot he inside of the turn. It'll look like this: If you're corning left, your left hand reaches for your left heel, your body position should look like you're trying to grab the left heel but and right foot should have a majority of your weight planted firmly on the right foot. If you're corning right, take your right hand and reach for your right heel. The stability during corning will come from how well you understand counterbalancing. Knowing where to plant your weight (opposite side of which ever way you're turning) is hypercritical to eliminating or mitigating speed wobbles. If you feel like you might lose control and you know how to ride seated, drop your weight and ride seated immediately. Riding seated will bring your center of gravity closest to the center axis of the wheel. In my opinion, a pedal lowering kit won't make a difference to a rider who hasn't learned effective counterbalancing and where the real stability riding at high speeds comes from. The skill of counterbalancing and proper weight distribution crosses over, knowing how and where to shift their body weight can be translated to any wheel past, present, and future. It is empirical to rider safety. A pedal lowering kit is a nice way for newer riders to trick themselves into better riding and "safety" by allowing them to use sloppy weight distribution. Glad you are ok Chooch, could of been a lot different.

Im happy to see that you weren't injured too badly. I had a similar situation happen to me yesterday on my little 16x going down a steep hill. I couldn't believe it. I've been riding for almost a year and I haven't had any speed wobbles on a long time.i did manage to carve out of it but it shook me up a little bit because the wobbles came on so suddenly and unexpectedly. I think my issue was that I got too much into my comfort zone and got lost in the ride.

Great technique: relaxed, and calm. Knowing how to bail is good euc knowledge. I think you should find another person; who rides in your city. For safey reasons: I wouldn't want to fall and be knocked out unconcious. Before I even leave for work, there are ambulances patrolling. Ever since riding EUC last year. Which sucks because not a lot of people know how to ride. Luckily there is a small EUC dealership in Wichita Ks. Where I live. And the owner does do small get together group rides. But not much recently. I used to do some gymnastics; when I was younger. Because I remember learning seated riding on the v13. At night; fell up and over the wheel. I did mad smooth dive roll though. I'm thinking of taking my wheel on vacation to Colorado in mid or late summer. To explore around nature. The last time I've been to Colorado was when I was 8. So visiting again would be quite fun. Do you know of any fun trails and scenic routes?

Great video 😮, you are very good at falling! If you weren't so good, you would be injured even with gear. People need to learn how to fall on these things and its videos like this that show people how to fall well. This, I would say is the primary thing that every EUC rider should learn. Absolute Center of gravity on these wheels is critical, Seems the lynx is at the upper limit to where the wobbes are right on the edge. Zen Lee onto something with a minimal pedal height reducer.

I have a major concern with the Veteran suspension wheels due to the high pedal height. The inability to adjust the pedal heights is a significant flaw. It appears that the wobbles may have resulted from fatigue, which could have been prevented if the pedals were lower. You handled it like a champ💪🏾

On the Lynx the batteries are a bit too high so the gravity center is not as good as others wheels, i have tried a bunch of wheel and the Lynx do a bit more wooble than any other wheel so the lowering kit makes a big difference on street riding but i agree with you on offroading it is better to keep the pedals higher.

I own the Patton. I took some time to get used to the vertical weight distribution. That maybe one of the factors to the wobbling.

Cooch I staggered my feet about inch forward & one inch back and that has taken the wobbles away with a few other things... I am sure you played with your settings a ton but I noticed the staggering of my feet with (i was a hard mode only guy ) I tried 0 % soft mode full and that made this me not have any more wobbles 95% of when I use to get them ... not they arent even a wobble but I also have the street tire & imo that made the wobbles easier to get ... hey man I am a big guy at 6'4" 270lbs & also when I do ride street (70/30) trail I put the psi to 42 and it rides like aa demon ... keep making the videos mate... cheers

Hi Chooch the quiet, yeah this is good footage, not funny like the ice rut but we get to see the conditions including down angle, the mobile distractor factor the car, the rider and wheel right through move, this is helpful footage even tho don't fall for clicks anyone, my opinions. The size of oscillations over guff. Well filmed. So down slope a high skill area. Perhaps you can put together thoughts on the down slope skill, perhaps a comments you saw we may have missed, anyway hope to figure out more guff, fun. Thank you Mr Chooch.
