A Month in the Country--not only is a thoughtful, beautifully written book, as the shortest one you may have time for another!

I think you would really enjoy Daddy Long Legs! Although you can’t go wrong with A Little Princess either. We’ve done both of these as read-alouds and the kids loved them both ❤

I vote for A Little Princess, one of my favorite childhood books. The Secret Garden was another favorite, of course. Frances Hodgson Burnett wrote beautiful, memorable stories. If you haven’t seen the Shirley Temple adaptation of A Little Princess, I recommend it also. It’s a very loose adaptation, but it’s so charming in its own way. I’ve heard fantastic things about Daddy Long-Legs, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

The Age of Innocence is my vote!

Tristan from Tristan and the Classics channel is always going on about A Month in the Country. He makes every book sound amazing but I really want to find that one. I haven't read any of the books, though they all sound great.

Hi!! I am a huge Edith Wharton fan and have read both of your choices and I think you should read those in the fall or winter .., they are both great!?For an end of summer read I would definitely choose Daddy Long-Legs … it is so charming… perfect for now!! Enjoy whatever you choose…

Miranda Mills l8ves Daddy Longlegs and I bought that on her recommendation! I'll read it with you! You could read A Month in the Country with Daddy Longlegs because they are both short. You also can't go wrong with Edith Wharton! Oh my that's a gorgeous edition of A Little Princess!! So hard to choose! My vote is first for Daddy Longlegs and then A Little Princess!
@janetsmith8566Ай бұрын
OK, I too have also only read oneEdith Wharton. Like you - I don’t know why! Because I really really really loved the book even though it was so sad. That was house ofMirth. So that is a good book and highly recommended. I’d love it though if you read the other one because I’ve got it and I haven’t read it yet! So it would be great to hear your thoughts on that when you’re done. If you choose that one. So I vote for the age of innocence.
@CandlewickLibraryАй бұрын
Good choices! The only ones I have read are The Little Princess and Daddy Long Legs. Both so good. I vote for Daddy Long Legs!
@elizabethbrink3761Ай бұрын
Oh, this is tough! I think Cousin Henry is a weaker Trollope. I'd go for Daddy Long Legs or The Age of Innocence!
@sandyokey1019Ай бұрын
I vote for the age of innocence!! I love Edith Wharton. AOI was the first book I read by her, and there is a fantastic Martin Scorsese movie adaptation too that I’ve watched numerous times. The house of mirth is good, but age of Innocence is hands down my favorite Wharton novel. 💕
@xSakixHarukax28 күн бұрын
As far as Edith Wharton goes I have only read House of Mirth and I really enjoyed it - however it's sad.. so I would only recommend that if you're in the mood for that. Personally A Month in The Country just sounds lovely - I think I would choose that for myself.

Dear Mitzi….The Marble Faun by Hawthorne is a great book for the summer. I first heard about it after watching the documentary Grey Gardens and was surprised by how much I liked it.
@mitzireadsandwritesАй бұрын
I have that on my shelf!
@margaretlambooy3228Ай бұрын
I also vote for either A LIttle Princess (Tasha Tudor illustrations -- lovely!) OR The Age of Innocence, which I think is Wharton's masterpiece. Quite different reading experiences. As much as I enjoy Trollope, I think Cousin Henry is a lesser novel. So many more of his that are better. What I hope most of all, MItzi, is that you end the summer with a classic book that you find rewarding!

Sorry for the late night reply. I need to clarify that A Month in the Country is not Miranda's Comfort Book Club selection. I think that group is on hiatus until September. This is for her Substack paid subscription membership as its summer read for the Seasons Book Club. Sorry! I'm subscribed to both.

Mitzi, these are some great choices! I am going to vote for A Month in the Country because it is also on my list to read this summer. I just finished reading The Betsy-Tacy Series and am now working on the related book - Carneys House Party by Maud Hart Lovelace.

I didn't realize you always have a classic going - that's impressive! I just heard Pat talking about A Month in the Country - she said it was excellent! I've never read Anthony Trollope, but I want to - which would you recommend I start with? I know everyone loves Wharton, but I'm not a big fan. I love the Secret Garden but haven't read anything else by her. My vote is for A Month in the Country since Pat spoke so highly of it. Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy it!

Hi Mitzi, I just read The Keeper of the Bees and loved it so much, by Gene Stratton-Porter, and now I am starting on Lighthouse by Eugenia Price because I want to read the trilogy and this is the first. I am also reading from More Cozy Mysteries, short stories, one by Elizabeth Goudge called White something. I’m so sorry I can’t remember the second word. I had recently finished The White Witch a historical novel by Elizabeth Goudge and it was wonderful! And in September I want to read September by Rosamunde Pilcher. I think you should read The Little Princess for your classic. I know the old movie was good starring Shirley Temple. I want to read A Month in the Country too. I recently ordered Vilette and Agnes Gray by the Brontes. So many books, so little time. Ha.❤❤❤
