I must say I have been researching Jimnys for about 2 years and finally received mine a few weeks ago after a 7 month wait. Everything you have said in this video is spot on. The suspension upgrade (Ironman GVM upgrade in my case) changes the ride dramatically for the better if you are also using it for a daily drive. I gave up on the idea of storage systems after getting a 45L firdge and now planning to get a LiFe battery and solar panels (forget about dual battery and you can also use it in another car), plus the Long Ranger fuel tank - 40L doesn't last too long. I've also given up on the bull bar idea due to weight and you touched on this too. Top job.

Having a small 6x4 trailer is such a great addition. They are designed for payload so you can put in all your tenting, fuel, water and not affect the handling at all. If you can, get brakes for the trailer, especially if it's over 500kg combined. Without brakes the Jimny can quickly get brake fade downhill. I have the auto and the Jimny tows really well. I've even towed tandem trailers with it. So long as they're loaded correctly and have brakes, the Jimny hauls like any other small car.

Nice overview, You are 100% these packing systems are adding 20-30kg , the problem with most these accessories they not engineered to be light and strong, they using steel and plywood and are bulky .Unfortunately lots of these designs are hand me downs where weight and space were not important.Roof top tents are over 330mm in height and weigh between 50 and 80kg.There is no reason they cannot be engineered to be 150mm and weight of 25kg.

Another fantastic video. I have moderate experience with off roading in the USA, Your vids are perfect for folks fresh to the fun. There's a lot to consider when outfitting your ride. I've enjoyed everything I've owned, from a '46 Willys CJ2a to a 2014 Toyota 4Runner (with my favorite being an oddball, a 1973 Pinzgauer 712M). Flying to our final destination in the Philippines today, and as mentioned in another of your vids, first purchase is a new Jimny. I want to add to a pont you made here about spotlights. A very very useful add-on is adjustable or even removable spotlights. NiLight (Amazon) has great magnetic mounts for LEDs that let you move and point them where you need them. Not sure about availability for you. Also, I think your channel will continue to grow, and you will find yourself becoming more of the "go to" for off roading, and not just in a Jimny. As a wrap up in every video, please remind folks of 4 very important rules for any adventure...preparation, notification, preparation and notification. Keep em coming.

No problem at all , Toug Dog or Opposite Lock does have a nice roof console availible for the Jimny , that has space for a radio and handset , but that does come at a cost , and you will need an anual license for the radio. The other option is Vlakvark radios no license required but only for short distances.

I've been researching what I've wanted for my Jimny for so long, and this one video has been more helpful than all other information I've recieved so far. I plan on building a Jimny for over landing purposes, however the big challenge is that I'm a fishermen and want to build it mainly with that in mind but I'm concerned about the space issue. Do you have any advice
@justjimny
@justjimny 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Antonio , thank you for the support. Rigging you jimny fir overlanding or fishing sounds like a great idea , number 1 on your lust should be a roofrack , you can add alot of lightweight stuff on the roofrack up to about 40kg. If you have the budget look at a suspension upgrade as well , to make sure your Jimny stays stable with heavier loads. If you are more specific on what else you want to fit in for your trips , I can give you a few more options.

I truly appreciate your channel. Thank you for keeping us so informed. I changed my order to a manual after watching your video. My main use would be for daily commute to work which is less than a week in a month and some off road on weekends. I do however live on a small holding with gravel roads that gets very muddy during the rainy season and my fiesta can never get me back home hence my reason for the upgrade. Would you still recommend the suspension and caps in this instance? I would assume a tow bar would be necessary too? Any specific brands that you recommend. Also what's the best method for concealing a laptop in a jimny?
@justjimny
@justjimny Жыл бұрын
Hi Denisha , thank you for the support. I think you made the right choice , the suspension and some rocksliders would be a good start , Tough Dog 40mm is the best in my opinion , the rocksliders prevent the plastic wheel arches from getting gravel rash , the radial cups only when you are planning to do off road trails. Rock sliders you can have a look at Wild Dog or Des Sol.

Great views, thanks for sharing. You didn’t mention diff lockers. - I know the AllGrip works well. It works better than an open diff but I think a diff locker is better. That’s why I will order a Kaiser diff locker for my rear axle. I want the benefits of a locked rear axle but the AllGrip still active in the front axle. I think it will be a great compromise.
@justjimny

Jip totally forgot about the lockers , I trust the ARB lockers they are really reliable downside is the cost of the locker and the compressor. Will have a look at the Kaiser , defenitly go for the rear locker that just provides more control vs the All Grip system.

Hello Mr Raymond. Firstly, I would like to thank you for your reports and responses on your KZbins and reviews I'm from Brazil... preparing my retirement after 42 years of work. In my youth, in the 80s, I had a Toyota Bandeirantes (in Brazil this was the name given to the 1st Land Cruiser). I did the maintenance myself. Decades have passed... 4x4 vehicles are no longer produced in Brazil (we had a multitude of excellent manufacturers of 4x4 vehicles, military and civilian). The result is that we have to import 4x4 cars, paying the price of gold (in Brazil, in direct conversion, I paid US$ 32,000.00 for a Jimny JB74 manual transmission). Preparing for my retirement I bought a Jimny JB74 Sierra 1.5 L (K15B engine). I would like to know where I can get a service manual for the Jimny JB74 so I can maintain it (I plan to keep it for 20 years) Thank you very much in advance for KZbin Regards!

Great video! thanks a lot for sharing your experience. Re the snorkel, is there a brand you suggest and also do you recommend the ram or vortex (cyclone) design. Re the tires, I read that the recommended alternative is to go with 215/60R17 and optional alternative is 215//75R15. Which do you recommend for offroad? I am leaning towards the 15” wheel because that way I do not have to buy new wheels. Another consideration is to keep the factory tires for day to day city driving and swap them for the offroad tyres when needed. However, this could be a waste of time changing all the time. Best regards and looking forward to more videos for the jimny.
@justjimny
@justjimny 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Victor , there has been alot discussions on the snorkels ect , I suggest having a look at snorkel type that you like , there is really not a massive difference between the brands and designs. On the tyres I will stick with the 215/75R15 thats a great size that has a decent side wall . Swopping tyres gets really a schlep get a decent AT tyre that can handle on and off road.

The 40mm is enough for onraod and off road use. Even with the 40mm extra height the Jimny feels much more stable on the road , and it even handles corners better. I cummute 120km per day on highways and it handles 10 times better than the stock suspension.

Hi , yes I have the 215/75 , the 215/80 does give you a little bit more clearance , but also has an effect on your performance and consumption. But after taking my one week old Jimny off road in muddy trails I really felt like it was going to be REALLY HARD to get stuck. The only upgrade was the Ironman gvm upgrade which made the world of difference off road I would essentially be driving off muddy trails 3 days a week I do wonder if the weight trade off is worth it? (Alsowoeied about kangaroos in aus)😅

Dont see the need for steel bumpers on the Jimny , the weight right at the front affects performance and handeling. In Aus its a good addon for the kangaroos though , just have a look at the weight , in ZA we have the De Sol one that only weighs 22kg. Winch I have never used on a jimny , most of the times you can push them out of trouble , but if you do solo trips in mud , have the correct recovery gear , I would opt for maxtrax before a winch.

Hi John congrats on the pet in the family , dont stress too much about the mudflaps you can just screw them off before you do a trail. The towbars available currently do effect the departure angle a bit and the trailer plug does take a lot of hits while on a trail , wish they would recess that plug. You really need to go extreme to justify the t-case plate , I dont have one , and I have done some hairy trails in ZA , still no problems , but accidents do happen. So keep it off till you want to take on some serious 4x4 trails.

Hi, are tough dog suspensions available in Europe? My worry is that they will make my Jimny more higher.
@justjimny
@justjimny 2 жыл бұрын
I believe it should be availible since you get OME in Europe. The extra 40mm lift you gain , does not make your body sway more , the Jimny handles corners much , much better that the stock suspension , and traceling at highway speeds , its very stable and well behaved. Look at Opposite Locks internation webpage and ask them if they have a disti close to you.

Bull/nudge bars are for protecting the radiator, and you’re absolutely correct. It looks cool but serves no purpose if you don’t have kangaroos, deer, or moose, jumping up in front of your car every now and then. @justjimny
@justjimny 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Frank the Metalian Genie looks light weight but it is actually quite heavy , and you need to make quite a lot of changes to make it comparable to the Moremi 4x4 trailer , like changing the hubs so you can have the same PCD as your Jimny (Extra Spare wheels) , another would be that the Moremi trailer has the exact same wheelbase as the Jimny much better handling and more maneuverable . And I believe that the Genie will work out more expensive than the Moremi.

I actually want the lift , and it makes a great diffrence in approach , depature and break over angles while off road.
