I've read articles and watched YT videos on this subject to the point of nauseam. And picking style hook by cold (hard) or warm (soft) mouths is new to me. This imo is something that has been way over thought. Bottom line is high end trebles (like the Gamas mentioned in this vid) are better than lower quality. I'll roll more with using round bend when fish are slapping more and ewg when they're chomping. However, I love this channel and love these discussions regardless if I agree or not. I've had a great day going back and watching most vids on this channel.

I switched to round bend as my rear treble and EWG as my front treble and my hookup and landing percentage increased

Now that was interesting. I had never thought of "angle of penetration" in that way before. Simply thought the difference was that one stuck out farther than the other. Excellent info!

Hi John, nice vid on trebles. Penetration and hold is key. Are use that G Finesse on my jerk baits. I like the idea on ewg in warmer more aggressive months, and round bend in colder since fish less active to jump off/fight in colder water. Good stuff!!

With fresh gammy trebles, the hookup to landing ratio on a treble hook bait starts to approach that of a single hook bait. People will still fish dull and rusty trebles though!

What size style and feathered treble hook do you personally use for a vixen topwater setup? Also do you prefer original run vixen over newest version? Is there a difference between the two? Ty love the channel

I use the Gami G-Finesse treble but hand tie the feather. Both Vixens are good to me. You should try the Teckel Kicknocker. It is really good too. Thanks!

This was a good demonstration, but I would have liked to see a comparison made with the standard treble hooks that come with some lures. There is so much talk about changing out hooks to upgrade lures. I don’t doubt there is good reason to do this, but it would be cool to see actual physical evidence to support this. Can you expand this demonstration next time?
