Thank you for this! I have three questions: * What diameter size (in mm) would you use for shoulder long hair? * What product should I put on my lengths to soften and protect the hair while blow drying it? (which straightening lotion heat protectant?) * Can you teach my boyfriend how to blow dry with a round brush? :)

+Karine T. Knudsen Hey, you're welcome! I'll do my best to answer! * Diameter size depends a little on what you'd like to achieve, for example a smaller diameter will give much tighter curls, the larger you go will be better for waves or straightening, but I'd say for a good all rounder on shoulder length, aim for something in the 55mm range will give you enough for waves and gentle curls, decent bevels and can straighten without being a pig. * Honestly I've never used one lotion over another that I've particularly liked. I tend to use mostly Goldwell stuff at home as it's quality and I can get it cheap(er) through the salon distributor, the straightening lotion is called Goldwell Flat Marvel. It's greasy on your hands, but after you put it in wet hair and dry it, it doesn't leave any residue. I also use Redken No.12 straightening balm and definitely think Redken products are top top quality, but they have a steep price tag to go with it. I tend to flip between the two depending on whats closest to hand unless I know a client dislikes the smell of one or the other. Goldwell has a stronger scent, they're both quite sweet. Aveda smooth infusion is one other I'd recommend, but again, a steep price tag. Goldwell > Redken > Aveda would be my recommendations, going from less expensive > expensive. * Possibly! Honestly, I don't envy long hair, round brushing drives me up the wall! Well, as you can see, any sort of brushing on my own hair is well beyond me haha

Lemon/Soda Haha :D Thanks a lot! I'll try the Goodwell first and see how it goes. I'm familiar with the "all soft" series from Redken. I really like it.

Hi! Thanks for all of your tips. Im a male who wants to style a pompadour /quiff kind of hairstyle. My sides are short and top is about 3-4 inches. What size of round brush should I use? 1 inches, 1.25 inches or thicker? Vented or boar bristle? Please advise thank you!!

Hey Colin, the smaller the better really! I'd use a boar bristle probably, whilst ceramic is usually stronger for curling, at that length I'd wonder if you would be able to get enough tension to curl the hair around the brush. A boar brush might be better to just grab the hair and give it the start of a turn back. You could also look at a thin curling tong which would help do the job. Last time I styled a pomp type thing, I used both a small bristle round brush and a tong on either side of the head and then finished the shape with my fingers and a comb. You can grab a tong for around £10 for a cheap one and you don't need anything fancy, they're dead easy to use. I know its often a dirty word, but you could even go as far as looking at a perm if you'll be styling it regular, it might be worth asking your barber/stylist about. They can just perm the fringe area to give it a rounder shape that will just give you a good starting point to style it. HTH, any other questions just ask!

Hi! I live in the uk too, I'm ordering a bunch of brushes to try out on clients, so far I've ordered the YS park g series and black carbon but I can't find any distributors for the Ibiza brush, where did you get yours?

Hi! I bought mine off Salons Direct, but I know last time I checked their stock was really patchy. I contacted them and they told me they do get them from time to time, but I had to wait a few weeks for them to get stock of the blonde EX series. Other than that, I know they've become quite difficult to get hold of recently which is a HUGE bummer. If you find them anywhere, please let me know too!

Hello there, I have quite rather fine excessively curly Afro textured hair that breaks somewhat easily. Every now and then I like to blowout my hair. I've been looking into brushes that might help me out but have been concerned about getting enough tension while not breaking my hair. Do you have any recommendations for my hair type? My hair is longer than shoulder length at the moment.

+Alibeeee Heya thanks for your comment :) I tend to recommend the IBIZA brand brushes for this sort of hair, the 'B' series uses a white boar and nylon bristle mix and are a really good middle ground for hair you need to be a little careful on. They're not the cheapest brush, about mid-range, but the quality is class and I've used my ibiza brushes for years and they're still good as new. For shoulder length or longer probably best to look at the B4 or B5, depending on how long past your shoulders it is. If it's down past your shoulder blades, step up to the B5, otherwise I'd probably use the B4. Honestly I find the weight and size of the 5 a little clumsy so prefer using a 4 even if the hair is a little longer. As I say, that's largely preference, if you're used to larger brushes you'll be fine. Have a look and see what you think, if it's not what you're looking for, let me know and I'll have a think :)
