quadrogong@gmail.com Great info,JJ hat Center is a veritable Supermarket, a veritable Library Of Hats..the rows of hats seem endless, six stuffed showcases full of caps, it’s overwhelming!..where do you begin.
This shows you how to break it down, and do it quickly and precisely, with a few simple steps.

Legend has it Kevin’s first hat was the Stetson Whippet, but it turns out to actually be the Biltmore!
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 Жыл бұрын
That’s right! It was a grey Biltmore Whippet, my boss at the time was a Biltmore salesman, the whippet was a stock hat for them at the time. I had a grey one with a black band, shaped it myself, they came open crown. That was 1994

This video is so true. People that don't wear hats regularly feel a little out of their elemets. But once they feel comfortable with their hat they want to wear like daily I'm that person. And your videos make people realize this Good job Kevin. I love your videos and guitars. It also cracks me up how l have a crushable hat and are way careful not to distort, l see your not like that. Your not afraid to bend or crush anything.lol

I usually wear a Brioni (black & Charcoal Gray) overcoat that is 21K, Stefano Ricci (Royal Blue Octagonal) suit that's 7k, 1k cotton Brioni shirt, and carry a 8k Stefano Ricci (black & gold hardware Eagle emblem) briefcase with Italian goodyear welted shoes with some Swiss made watch. So I'm the beaver classic (Charcoal Gray) kind of person. HA. But I do like some experimentation that's a little different but staying classy and elegant.

Hi Kevin! I cannot tell you how much I’ve enjoyed your videos! Please keep them coming. I have a question and maybe a suggestion for a future video topic. Personally, I prefer the look of a hat with bound edged brims such as the hats by Stetson like the Inwood/Asher and the Lamont/Concourse. I once thought I heard you say (in another video) that bound edged brims were usually sturdier than a raw edge. Anyway, I’ve noticed how few bound edged brim hats are out there. Borsalino practically produces none and Stetson has very limited models/styles that have them. My question is: “If bound edged brims are sturdier and give the hat a more stylish look ... then why are they so rare?” A video on how manufacturers choose the bound edging and if it is sewn or glued etc. may be a good topic. Just an idea ... All the best, James. P.S. I ordered a silky black “Concourse” today from JJHC as a birthday present to myself (54 years today). HAPPY THANKSGIVING 🦃

James Maxwell happy birthday 🎉...congrats on your new hat, good choice.. They aren’t really rare at all,it’s just a matter of what folks want to order for their shops, a matter of taste.. In my experience working at JJs, I’ve found that the average hat customer doesn’t like the bound edge, they’ll see a few choices,then veto the Bound edge, usually saying,” I don’t like that stuff on the brim, I’d rather have it plain..” the bound edge is a love it or hate it thing, While the other edges are usually not noticed at all..the bound edge is a deal breaker for some.. The folks who love classic, nostalgic, old timey hats are going to love it, but that’s only 30-40% of hat wearers...the real connoisseur who loves the old,classic stuff. We happen to love bound edges, and folks complain that we have too many..they’re not rare at JJs..at all. Borsalino made the Allessandria Model, which was one of their biggest sellers, it had a bound edge.. Stetson has the Whippet, Stetsonian, Dune, Open Road..which are iconic,famous bound edge hats.. The answer is simple...Bound edges are a dealbreaker for some,so most hats don’t have it. If u count, we probably feature over a third of our hats have a bound edge...we love it here. We have the Whippet in 5 colors..black, brown, cognac, white, grey..we sell a few every day.. and probably over 50 other hat models with it.. Its all dependent on what the customers in that area like, and what the boss orders..!

You really fit well with a shirt and a blazer. It does create a business casual vibe that pairs well with almost all hats (except top hat and some ultra dressy hat).

I use very heavy picks, heh heh I use Gravity picks Sunrise model the yellow ones and the blue ones. I also use V Picks Freakishly Large Pointed model, all three are expensive, but they don’t wear out like a tortex or Delrin Dunlop type.. one lasts me like a year , I don’t do pick scrapes w them, but when I want to I just use an older one, and they don’t get those huge gaps like a regular pick does from pick scrapes..they wear differently because they’re acrylic ,

In my opinion/my experience, most 1st time hat wearers let hats intimidate them. Basically, letting the hat wear them than the other way around. Out of my hat collection, I have a Borsalino Alessandria and an Akubra Boss (that I flattened the brim on). Those hats have an attitude and you have to have an attitude to match. In my area, rural farming community, you rarely see anything outside of ball caps on people. Even wearing a more understated hat, like my Akubra Stylemaster or Stefeno Jazzy fedoras gets looks from people around here. It's not important what people think, it's what you think that matters. Putting on a Boss with a flattened brim exudes a bold, powerful statement. Guys get out of the way, and gals fall all over themselves...my 15 year old daughter saw it happen and started laughing at the affect it had on people around here. Once, a girl was checking me out, stopped, looked at her man, and looked disgusted at him in his ball cap. I'm the odd man out, however, because I pull off hats that most people don't. Ball caps, trilbys, and porkpies look ridiculous on me, but 2 1/2" or greater brims look good on me. The reason for wearing them started with my trips to Ecuador to visit my fiance and her family. Quito sits on top of a mountain in the Andes. Cooler temperatures at that elevation, but closer to the sun. You'll burn in a very short time. The wide brims help shelter me from the UVs. Nearly everyone in Ecuador refers to me as Indiana Jones because of the Stylemaster I usually wear there. Doesn't look anything like an Indy hat, but they don't see anything but ball caps, trilbys, and Panamas there, so they associate my hat to the Indiana Jones films. I get compliments in the hat a lot there. I have an "I don't care/no me importa" attitude that makes wearing the hats no problem. I also have hazel eyes that often change color...more yellow, more green, more brown...which I think "may" have to do with my mood. So I can pull off various colors of hats. I'll be 50 years old in a few months, so that also helps me pull off the hats I wear. Oddly, my son pulls off the same look in the hats I wear. My daughter can wear anything and it looks good on her. I guess there is a science to it all, but once you find what works for you, it becomes second nature. There's colors I haven't tried yet, but I'm no longer intimidated to try them. A hat is an accessory, and in my case, a necessity when abroad. It shouldn't cause such duress, although it often does. Choose what works for you and ROCK the thing...if hats are your thing. Stephen

So, my vintage Cavanagh looks great in a teardrop shape, but I still want a little work done on it. And boy, the Long Oval hat build is so comfortable on my head. I'm already starting to hunt for my next one: the rare Borsalino with Cavanagh Edge. It's hard to even find pictures of it, much less find one for sale in 7 3/8 or 7 1/2 size. I *might* be able to squeeze into a 7 1/4 with some work on the hat stretcher.

Dont reccommend going small, wait it out..some are fine,others are a size or 2 smaller due to dehydration of the leather sweat Always a chance that 1/4 will measure at 1/8 or smaller.. go large, or wait..congratz and happy holly daze 🎅🏿

@@quadrogong1111 I got so lucky with that vintage Cavanagh. It fit me perfectly and didn't shrink at all. That's amazing for a 60-year-old hat. I've seen a number of vintage Borsalino Gorasgu hats with Cavanagh edge treatment on the Fedora Loungs forums; one is bound to show up again. Also, no Christmas before Thanksgiving, you heathen! 🦃

I was thinking of my next purchase of hat to be a Christys' Top Hat, perhaps Tyrolean Old Austrian hat, and perhaps classic German made Homburg. I've purchased 2K worth of hats in the past month though. HAHA.
