Consider using foam discs on top to stop the light getting through in the case of 2inch net cups. You cut a slit to the middle so it wraps around the plant and helps stablish it. You can make these from cutting sheets of foam. You can also use a pool noodle, cutting slices from it.

Sounds like Leonardo Dicaprio narrated this. Helpful, thank you.

I had good results overplanting romaine lettuce in a 3 1/2 inch cup. I have a tabletop grower that has two cups that size. I got four times the yield with 4 plants in one than with just one in the other. Still experimenting though. The light isn`t adjustable on these though and began burning the leaf tips so I started picking leaves early. Gonna try two buttercrunch lettuce plants next. These growers are unique and pump water from below through a top section so a lower water level below never affects water level on the roots.

I love your videos and what you're doing. I have been growing a lot of peppers but have decided to move them outside and repurpose my grow rack. How does the spinach do in the 1.5 vs 2 inch net pots?

Great video! I wondered why you recommended 1.5” net cups and others talked about 2”.
@ayen76792 жыл бұрын
I think 1.5” net cups are better for plants like lettuce which will be in the system for a shorter period of time. It’s also better to choose 1.5 if you will mass produce the lettuce because you will need less space.

Precisely what I have discovered. I broke many cups trying to pull basil roots out of the towers I use. Decided to grow just lettuce now. Seems you ned a variation of different sized holes depending on the number of growing spaces you have in your hydroponics systems and types of plants. I can see now where rectangular channels are probably the best setup.

the 1.5 in links to a 50 mm netcup (around 2 in )
@SimpleGreensHydroponics2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that number is the total width of the net cup including the lip. It is 1.5" diameter below the lip.

Cool video. FYI to fill a 2'" net cup, they make larger rock wool so no light will get through.
@SimpleGreensHydroponics4 жыл бұрын
Yes good point! I should've mentioned that. The reason we've avoided the 2" rockwool in the past is just due to the higher cost for a plant like lettuce with such high turnover, but it could be a great option for longer term plants.

what is the recommanded pvc pipe diameter to grow lettuce in case of 2 inches cup and 1.5 inches cup?
@JOEYZ-nq2gn Жыл бұрын
Don't know if it's much help to you now, but from what I've found a 3inch PVC pipe should be sufficient for a 2 inch net cup

Great videos. Have you ever tried using a pool noodle instead of a net cup or other substrate in your setup? I'mvery new at this. I've seen people use this instead of rockwall. Your thoughts?
@nicolea98633 жыл бұрын
Not organic and can cause algae
@SimpleGreensHydroponics3 жыл бұрын
The pool noodle still requires some way of starting the seeds beforehand, we've just gone with the net cups since they are simple.

2 inches diameter in the top or in bottom?
@SimpleGreensHydroponics3 жыл бұрын
The net cup fits into a 2" diameter hole.

I use 1 inch for lettuce. Tried 3 inch with tomato and peppers they start falling over and I have to tie to strings from ceiling. I just got 6 inch net pots today to try beef steak tomato's and peppers in 5 gallon bucket.

The Amazon link for the 1.5 net cups says 50mm. That is not 1.5 maybe 1.9 inches
@SimpleGreensHydroponics3 жыл бұрын
Yes the 50 mm they mention is the outside of the rim. The diameter below the lip is 1.5 inches.

I used a 1.5 hole saw and bought the 50mm net cups you recommended and they don’t sit flush in the holes at all I have to force them in.
