I have stayed at Hard Rock, Cabana Bay and the Royal Pacific. The only thing I don't like is paying for parking, but then I figure that even though I don't "pay" for parking at Disney, the cost of it is rolled into the room prices, making the rooms at Universal less expensive for quality over Disney.

That was amazing, it was very informative and answered questions about the hotels a lot of other "You Tube" blogs do not such as "what you get for your price in rooms, food ,and pools". I'm coming over from Australia to Orlando (first time) ,and considering it maybe a "once in a life time" experience, I want it to be the best holiday memory,so you have provided great options,thanks.

We stayed at Cabanna bay last spring and absolutely loved it! for a budget hotel and very well done and the food court is fabulous. We walked to the theme parks and it was a really nice walk apart from the road you have to cross just outside of the hotel. We have also stayed at AOA at Disney and it was ok, a bit too motel like at the little mermaid rooms, and too spaced out for our liking. We are going to try out the Portofino hotel this year, looking forward to that too. Im not a big fan of the buss's they are usually really crowded and right at the end of city walk, a bit of a trek anyhow, so being able to walk to the parks is a big bonus at Universal.

Re Hotel Company vs. Entertainment Company and Universal and Lowes vs. Disney hotel ops? MANY years ago I was a guest at the Dolphin and talking to a Westin exec back when they ran the hotel. They explained to me that Disney had made the management deal to LEARN the convention and hotel business FROM them and from Sheraton. They explained, for one example, that DIsney's prior approach to convention planning was to give a company three choices, no substitutions--Plan A, B, or C take it or leave it, but that big companies didn't want to work that way and Westin and Sheraton KNEW that. They also explained that they KNEW their franchise was for a limited time (I think it was 7 years) and that they'd be taken over by Disney at that point because Disney would think they'd learned everything they needed to know by then. Well......... you be the judge.
