Great Rant guys, I would add this special occasion: finally paying off your mortgage! It would have to be something epic, like a bottle from a closed distillery to represent that debt to the bankers being gone forever.

I figure that my 70th birthday is as good enough excuse to blow out the budget on a bottle of Glenmo Signet. All others, like holiday dinners and wedding gatherings, I'd go with some Auchentoshan Three Wood. I agree on the Old Pulteney, at almost any age. Glen Scotia 15 and Lagavulin 16 are both on hand for a bit of a step up. (Springbank is a total unicorn in this region...never been here.) Canada Day/Independence Day: Gin, Bombay Sapphire and Fever Tree tonic.

Thoughts on laphroaig 18 vs Corryrveckan or vs Traigh Bhan? Just on complexity and boldness. I’ll probably never taste the laphroaig 18 so want to know what I’m missing with that unobtainium.
