I saw a movie where everyone warned this kid (Ralphie) he would shoot his eye out. Well sure enough, the very first BB ricocheted right into his eye!!! He was OK but his glasses were shot!

Thanks Joe for another great episode. Wow, you've picked up another 7k subscribers fast since the 50k celebration. Speaking of scopes, I have a pile of Hawkes because I like them, and that's almost all you see on KZbin for air rifles. Then, last month I bought a Bushnell Banner for $99 bucks shipped WITH a free flashlight from the good folks at B&H Photo Video Pro Audio out of New York and it's THE BEST scope I own now. Clarity unlike I've ever seen.

I can relate to "wait and get what you really want". Many years ago I decided I wanted to get a Leupold m8-6x (yeah it's been that long ago). The dealer didn't have one, but talked me into getting a Redfield 6x wf that he had. I was never happy with it; it was much longer than the Leupold. I've still got that scope. It's not bad enough to put in the trash, but I haven't even mounted it on a rifle in over 15 years. Still don't have the Leupold I wanted... Another time I was going to get a 3-9x variable. This was when Tasco scopes were made in Japan and they were selling like hotcakes. I bought one. It wouldn't hold zero, it wouldn't track; POI went all over when you changed the power. I gave it away. I currently have a 2.5-10x and a 6-24x Tasco. They are okay to jack up to highest power for shooting groups to evaluate rimfire ammo. Won't use them for anything serious.

I’m a firm believer a springer should be running a fixed power scope. Less lenses to vibrate and only a few settings the recoil can mess with. I’ve killed a few scopes on springers, a centre point 4x9 does fantastic within 50 yards but doesn’t have the clarity of a more expensive piece. I only say this because I’ve shot 10000 pellets thru my gun and the 4x9 scope has always held zero.

lol ...always informative & a wee bit entertaining. One of our air guns is a break barrel ...a Benjamin Nitro Piston .22 calibre that has a advertised muzzle velocity of 1100 fps. It kicks like like a dang shot gun & will go clean through a thick metal coffee can @ 100 yards ...IF I can see the dang thing. & yes it kicks the dang shit outta scopes. I'm using a Red Dot off the 12-gauge ...it holds up but is not magnified. We shoot small targets @ 100 to 300 feet ...& with my eyes ...magnification is required ...lol! I'm waiting for a scope to be replaced from the manufacturer ...who say it was faulted & the replacement will work! We'll see. Can you recommend a a good scope that'll hold up. I like the MTC Vortex ...but have never seen it mounted to a gas piston gun in any video or such ...so I assume it is for PCP & high end types of air guns. What about the Discovery Hi FFP 4-14X44SF? Thanks Brother ...keep your powder dry ...

For anyone who is cheap like me, but wants equipment that works: I'm using the Walmart Barska 3-9X32. Have had it a good few months now. (Atop a Daisy 880) I'm very pleased. I shoot 10 yards out to 100 yards. Not trying for one hole groups. Just minute of squirrel or pop can. That Barska has done anything I've asked of it. I haven't done extensive tracking tests on it or anything. I zero it at 30 yards and only use a portion of the reticle line for hold over at 100 yards, so it works great for me. As Joe says don't fuck with a cheap scope once it is dialed in. I just want others to know there are quality optics for DIRT cheap. Check out all the reviews on the SonicKing here on YT. That's what got me over the edge to decide and use a cheapie. So glad I did too. Plus my rifle was $35. How am I gonna put a $100 scope on that. Lol

8:00 facts! I bought my Gamo Varmint in a local store for about 30$CAD more than I could get it for online! The thing failed before 300 pellets and I got a new one over the counter right away [could had saved 30$..but thats probly the price to ship it back to Gamo...no regrets] Would you say vortex scopes are worth it/ reliable for magnum springers?

Hey all I can say out there people I like to use the Hawke scopes 3 by 9 x 40 or even maybe a little bit bigger as far as magnification goes but I have got four Hawke scopes that are not too terribly overpriced and I have had no problems with them they are all crystal clear did not have to pay a fortune for them and they work really well I've got three it's got the front focus on it and I've got one that's got the side Focus and they all work really good I think they are really make well-made scope for an air gun

Mr Joe, I am writing you from Costa Rica, sorry about my bad english. I respect very much your enormous knowledge about scopes, and I understand you completely. The scopes are great precision instruments which we enjoy very much. My question for you friend, I need your advice. Recently I broke a fine 3-9 compact Burris scope (airgun rate) on top of a Hatsan 135 cal .25 springer (no vortec) in less than 200 shots. I had this scope on top of a Beeman Kodiak .25 for 16 years ( a powerful springer too). Never a problem. This .25 springer Hatsan rifle has the same power plant of Hatsan Carnivore .30 break barrel and Hatsan 125 too, altho the Carnivore is vortec piston (less recoil than spring). My 135 springer produce 31 ft/lbs at the muzzle, with .25 Barracuda 31 gr pellets. The strong, harsh recoil from this powerful springer cost me this fine Burris scope, and I am very sad. Now, I like very much this Hatsan rifle, besides powerful is very accurate too. I have a Leupold 3-9X33 EFR scope which I purchased from Airgun Express 18 years ago. I have been reading some post telling that all Leupold scopes can stand magnum air rifles. Is this true? Are you sure? I want to put this Leupold on top of this powerful Hatsan springer, but I am really afraid to break this Leupold scope too. I dont want to almost cry again, when I broke this fine Burris Scope. Do you think this Leupold 3-9X33 EFR can stand the strong harsh double recoil from this 135 Hatsan springer rifle? Thank you for your time Mr Joe. The best Airgun scopes are Bushnell , Leupold , Swfa , and UTG . They are Springer rated . Magnum piston airguns will wreck other types almost every time

Hey P.W., I can weigh in here. I bought a UGT 4x16x44 a couple years ago when I got back into air gunning. I put it on a .25 FX Bobcat. I soon realized I did not like the eye box or the thick reticle. If I had watch all Joe's videos two years ago I would not have purchased it. I have since replaced it with a Hawke straight 10 power. At this time, the Hawke is the best glassed scope I own. My only other scope is one of the new Aztec 5.5 x 25. At this time the Hawke is the best glass cause its a straight 10 power scope. If I were doing it all over from the beginning, and had watched all of Joe's stuff, I would buy the 299.00 SWFA. Also I guess it depends on what gun you are putting it on. I'm getting ready to resurrect my very old Beeman R-1 (circa 1984) springer. If you are not going to put it on a springer, go for it. but if the price is anywhere near the SWFA, I'd do it. If you are anywhere near the St. Louis Mo. area you can come over and try it for yourself.

You should look into flying into Little Rock Arkansas, Malvern Arkansas is less than an hour drive and go the the Malvern air gun show that Joe posted information about recently. I plan on going but will only be a one day visit for me. Also, Im going to mount the UGT on my Beeman R1 and see how long it takes to tear it up.

They list it as recoil rated ...True Magnum Springer rated .....I wouldn't want to bet on it. They are great scopes , don't get me wrong . But I haven't used one on a hard kicker

Learning to use various types of iron sights is a critical aspect of marksmanship . Only then can a shooter appreciate optical sights . Mounting an optic on a sub 300 $ Springer is a waste of money , as a Springer proof scope will cost more than the rifle .
