I find the vintage 51 superior in every respect. There is a reason why these pens, some of them 60 years old, are still going very strong even today.

W and S are impeccable QUALITY art materials. They will feel different, they are not mass made they are HANDMADE with all sorts of wonderful ingredients from nature. TOP TIP The watercolours need thoroughly mixing on a china palette using warm not cold water to thoroughly work them in. The iron plum will seperate in to the two colours that it is made from in a wash. At full strength it is a gorgeous brown damson dark that is hard to describe and do it justice. It is helpful to GENTLY agitate that ink before use. Sometimes I will gently stir with a clean stick, but I find gentle aggitation enough. Not too much shaking as you will get tons of bubbles. A lot of their pigments are granulating these are best on a rough watercolour paper. The paper you use is really vital. I use hot press smooth for the ink, but will experiment with any quality 100% cotton watercolour paper. The logwood ink has many depths of browns, purples and even green in it. Very exciting to work with. You can also purchase W and S ANCIENT GUM ARABIC which has honey as one of its ingredients. Add a FEW drops of this to your painting water and it will reactivate them. Not too much or they will go shiny and horrid. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER BRAND OF GUM ARABIC FOR THESE as it is NOT the same binder. As you say you have a different climate where you are. Dried tubes I just cut open and use as pans. Hope these hints and tips are useful. Thanks for sharing your grounds and experiments. You are very lucky to be able to get hold of this media from your art shop. It REALLY is very special. No two batches will ever be the same and that is the beauty of them. ENJOY. Any more information, experience and thoughts out there on WS please share! Thanks for starting the conversation Mystery. Xx

If you like Ocean Paper, you will LOVE the Shinhan Pass hybrid paints., as I find them similar, but Shinhan is more versatile IMO. The PASS are opaque when applied masstone, but transparent when watered down. Many of the colors granulate or have a bit of texture.

What a beauty! Can you please tell me something about the ef nib? I have a ef sailor pro gear slim.. is this wider? What about the grip in long writing sessions? Slippery ? Thank you my dear Lady.
@MysteryArts19 күн бұрын
Hi there. The TWISBI EF nib is definitely going to be wider than that on the pro gear slim. Sailor's nibs generally tend to run finer than other nibs. I personally love the grip section and don't think it is slippery. However, if you don't like the feel of small ridges on your fingers, you might not like it (they are barely noticeable during writing, but I know some people are sensitive to that sort of thing.

@@MysteryArts❤thank you, really kind! I simply adore the Sailor ef nib feedback, so I’m tempted by Twsbi but still not convinced. Let’s see… as I need a daily “barrel- full“ of ink now.. this seems to be to only possible solution!

KZbin is starting to freak me out. I just got the new A1 with the Fine nib. I filled the cartridge but forgot to dip the nib unit in the bottle. I came back with the pen and here you were, on autoplay. I guess KZbin thought that I didn’t know how to fill it. 😂 I like Medium and 1.1 mm stubs so I was holding out for a medium. I will probably have to get the real thing for that. The Fine is 0.5mm vs 0.4mm for extra fine so it probably isn't worth the upgrade for most people. I got the black with gold trim. It looks like I spent a lot more than I did. You have to love that.

I know this video is from 2 years ago.. I use the Pilot parallel nibs in Opus 88 demonstrator pens. The nib fits perfectly and you have a huge ink capacity of almost 4 ml.. I have a few of these pens for my urban sketching.

I tried the opus 88 and the nib kept getting stuck and had a hard time removing it-but perhaps that was a quirk of the particular pen I was using. I know a lot of people have success with the opus 88 and pilot parallel nibs.

I agree Jacksons has the best prices. I had filled my cart for their current Schminke sale. Then I saw the cost if shipping. $20 pretty much canceled any savings 😢 I moved on. I thought they had a US warehouse to ship for sales on their US site. Apparently not with $20 International shipping costs. I was ready to drop $150 on paints. No free shipping, No Bueno. They're going to charge me the same price as a $40 sale? 😢 Every other site offers free shipping on larger sales.

I just got the Taccia ink in the Dark Indigo shade. It’s a great ink, like most Sailor inks, but, it’s pretty much the same as the other Sailor blue black inks I have. Not sure why I was expecting anything different - and the box sure is pretty, but I wish I’d gotten one of the lighter blues.

I bought a 743 <FA> with the intention of getting a 2-slit Ebonite feed and do a nib swap with my 823 <M>, but I'll need to spend some time with both pens before I commit to this. The 823 writes like it's skating across the page. I can see how some people feel that makes the pen hard to control, but it works for me. I re-watched your video because I was trying to figure out if the feed is keyed.

I love the 743 FA. Mine is pretty wet, and I’ve had no issues with the pen at all, it writes perfect. My 823 is a fine, I think it’s a little dry, but changing out the feed in that one scares me a little!
