Was it not a big mistake to let the Consultation resolve without Spell Piercing it at the end of M1G3? If Oracle is in the bottom 3 cards (or in their hand) and they also have a land (or LED but we die to that either way) in hand we lose by letting it resolve and I can't come up with a scenario where casting the Pierce there turns a win into a loss.

Why not dress down for recurring? You can cast it during your end step for card draw and to shut down a lot of opponent creatures.

In terms of the likes of Vamp Tutor and Mystical: I would say, generally speaking, multiple reasons may apply: you might not know what piece of your combo you need, so it isn't a huge help, and that leads into the other - if you don't know what you need or have a more immediate threat in hand to discard, it might not be a problem at all that they discard your Tutor - and you keep it in hand to give them the opportunity to make a mistake. Lastly, if they take something other than the tutor, it gives you info about what they're afraid of, so then you can tutor for a replacement if you think it is worth while. If you end up Tutoring and not using what you tutored for, you ultimately ate up your draw step, so they are best used as late as possible.
