I commented this on the previous video but wanted to take another chance at you seeing it: I worry that putting a coating on the roof would taint any rain water you plan to catch, especially when the costing begins to degrade. That’s a huge benefit of metal roof vs plastic/asphalt, not a bunch of chemicals in your water! Hey also you can put a little block of wood under your hammer when prying nails to greatly increase the leverage when pulling those stubborn ones. At least you know those nails are in there good and the roof isn’t gonna peel off in the wind. ✌️

One of your most helpful videos! We always can use a little advise to avoid buying every little gadget for our broods. You helped me a lot with your chicken math. I especially like your advise to build your own systems that are probably much less expensive and may even work better! Can't wait to try a few!!!

Thanks for going through all the stages of feeders and waterers as you raise them! It was great! We have a ton of waterers and feeders of different size too. We are always having to repair them too. Plastic gets brittle pretty fast. Sometimes the chickens can undo the screws on the feeders and I have to buy new nuts and threaded rod for them because they get lost in the grass somewhere. The metal feeders and waterers always rust. We often use buckets too just like Jason does. Thanks for this video Contreras family!

I agree. I've done every single waterer/feeder you showed in this video. Each of them can have a use, but I also just enjoyed the rubber pans, too. lol It's crazy how much equipment one can go through when they have chickens.

In the buckets you could hang in a sock with some rice for moisture .....rice is put in salt if your at cape cod/or close to the sea to take out any moister[the natural anti clumping]

On the ones with the black screw tops, coat the threads with either Vaseline or olive oil. The lids will unscrew easily, even in the coldest weather. I picked up a couple of 3 gallon water/salt bowls at the farm store. I put my water jugs in there and don’t have to worry about how uneven the ground is and risking the water draining off. The water only goes up just a little above the drain hole and full sized birds have no problems accessing it.

After almost losing a cochin om a hot (over 115) day I added a mister t0 my coop. . It is on a garden timer, that helps keep them cool and adds a secondary water source of water from the drips.

I'm like you: I have SEVERAL styles of waterers. Some work more conveniently than others. I use the cups (different styles), but I have found that the chickens LOVE to drink directly from my bucket. It's like they want to dip their heads into the water! They seem to know that I have water in the bucket to refill. So, I've spoiled them and let them drink directly from my refill bucket, until I need to move to another pen. ha

My son built me an automatic water. Just a piece of pcv pipe nipple waters and cups. Run to a bucket with a valve. He used a braided metal hose. Not good in winter cause we get freezing temps. But from April to Nov. all I have to do is pop the lid an fill the bucket add some apple cider vinegar.

I honestly think that if someone developed and made a waterer that was plastic (not metal because over time it rusts) but in a dark color so that it doesn't grow algae in the summer they would be making a fortune with those of us who has developed a hate for water plastic waterers.

Thanks for this! We have a tiny backyard flock of 6 chickens. I have tried several waterers and these days we're using one of those big 4-gallon covered cans on cinderblocks, plus a heating platform under it during the winter. Also I will fill up a 3-gallon bucket from the big box store, and just refresh it every few days when it is getting dirty, so they always have water, one way or the other. It seems like they somewhat prefer a "natural" body of water versus a more technological approach. The buckets freeze overnight in the winter, so I keep a wooden club handy to break the ice. Yeah there's no perfect solution but it's nice to see all the interesting options you have tried, with advantages and drawbacks laid out.

I don't like the 3- and 5-gallon round waters from TS with the vacuum seal because I can NEVER get the lid off. There is no way to get leverage on it like you showed and old ladies can't squat down and grab it with their knees! I do use the cups on a 5-gallon bucket or the black rubber pans for my chickens. And the feed goes in the same rubber pan. I have some very old-school antique galvanized chicken feeders for one stationary coop that works great!
