Bonsai is the cultivation of tiny trees in pots and although we talk a lot about the development and refinement of the trees we very seldom actually talk about the pot itself keep watching as I talk about the importance of bonsai pots and show you some of the more incredible Bonsai pots in my own personal collection
Enjoy 🙏😁🌳

Thank you Steve. It’s about choosing a pot that matches or contrasts with the key feature of the tree. Whether it’s the texture or colour of the bark, or the foliage of the tree. Finding the pot I have in mind is usually the bigger problem 🤗

Thanks Jason. You have a great collection. Thanks for the inspiration. In the collections that I see the 'rule' about pot depth equaling trunk diameter seems more honored in the breech than the observance? Seems to me that it naturally works for trees with quite thick trunks, but there are many excellent bonsai with trunks that are not massively thick and look great in pots of greater depth than the trunk width. Lots of examples in your collect as well, I think? Roger.
@TheBonsaiGarden

Thanks Roger. As with a lot of these “rules”, I think they are more a matter of suggestion and common practice rather than rigid rules. Often we choose what instinctively feels right 🤗
@rtregear

@@TheBonsaiGarden Indeed, Jason. If bonsai was all truly rule based, we'd just hand everything over to some bots. The ability to have genuinely held, but different, opinions about which pot works best for a particular tree is at the core of our humanity. (Alarmingly, I've just noticed that there is "ai" in bonsai! 😱)
