One of the best ways to get a sagging or sticking garden or farm gate to move easily is to use a gate wheel or gate caster
Clearly a 3 foot white picket garden gate made from pine or vinyl will need a different wheel or caster than a 16 or 20 foot long tubular steel farm gate. For the garden gate the best wheel to use to support a sagging gate is a 4”, spring loaded gate caster like Tech Team’s #716. This can mount to the face of the gate and will swivel to accommodate the direction the gate is moving while the spring action will act as a shock absorber that will compensate for slight irregularities in the surface. If the gate is larger, say a driveway gate, the 8” swivel caster like Tech Team’s #884 might be the right choice. When you get to a farm gate sagging is almost never an issue, the problem is almost always that the hinge post is being pulled out of plumb by the weight of the gate. The solution here is Tech Team’s #767 16” gate wheel which attaches to the end of the gate and gives it support all along the radius. The large 16” diameter allows it roll easily over uneven surfaces and since it is flat free, it stays round even in the dead of winter.
