Love the videos! One question though, I see a lot of people installing dowels to tie the garage and driveway together so they move together. Do you still use expansion material?
@DecoCreteTV7 ай бұрын
Technically no, if you tie the slabs together you don't need expansion material. However, tying a driveway to the garage slab is not a good idea. The driveway will move, but the garage slab is on a foundation and won't move. If you tie these together, you'll probably end up with a crack in one or the other. Never tie a slab on grade to something that won't move, that's whole point of expansion joint material. If you're pouring up against a slab on grade, then yes, tie them together and don't worry about expansion. This is topic can come with some debate depending on where you live. We plan to make a video on this in the future. Thanks for watching Deco-Crete TV!!!

Thanks for the video. Do you need to caulk over this between a concrete driveway and driveway apron?
@DecoCreteTVАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Most contractors don't caulk over expansion joints on driveways, but it's up to you. It's not required, just a preference thing. If you decide to do that, I would use a flexible joint sealant. Here's a link to the one we sell on our website. Thank you very much for this! Do the expansion joint materials come in wider widths? I'm planning on a 14 inch slab, or can one, just stack them on top of each other until the desired height is satisfied?
@DecoCreteTV6 ай бұрын
You are welcome! 4" & 6" is the most common size that you will find at concrete supply stores, some will stock 8". You probably won't find anything 14", but you can definitely stack the pieces up to make it work, so I wouldn't worry about finding the exact size. Just make sure that everything covered so the new doesn't touch the foundation. Thanks for watching Deco-Crete TV!!!
