I'm a civil Engineer with 30 years experience - don't get hung up about the water. As the concrete is poured the water will be displaced by the concrete. Just get the worst of it out of the pits. Also the small volume of water on the plastic is insignificant compared to the water used to mix the concrete, it will not adversely affect the concrete strength. The main problem with the rain is trying to get a good surface finish on the concrete slab, especially if you want a steel float finish.

Thanks Dave - we have had so much rain we have put a big tarp over the whole site and then will mop out the holes. All the setting out concrete is totally cured so I am happy about that. Thanks for you advice....it is encouraging. 👍🏻

Looking great. I don't envy the concrete work, done enough of it for friends and the body doesn't want to do it anymore. I really wish my shop had a drain in it just so I could at least wash the floor or keep it wet for painting. I like those expansion joint/screed guides. Not something we use here in the US. But I watch you and others around the world doing their projects partially to see what methods and materials others use and there are often some really neat products and ideas to be learned from it. The biggest thing you have is a great helper. I can barely get any help on projects when I need it...

Help is hard to get so we are lucky we have 1 more pair of hands....sometimes. Yes the grey expansion joints I am hoping will help me out a lot and saves on a control joint cutter later.
@2010wembley2 жыл бұрын
Use a wet vac to get rid of the water, though a bit wont harm the concrete.
@HomesteadingUncontained2 жыл бұрын
Did think of that but hoping the tarp will keep it dry and then we can just mop out the holes.

A pleasure to watch your thorough, accurate and timely preparation. You will certainly have a excellent floor for your garage. You might want to put the DPC behind the wall so that when its filled in, you wont get damp coming through the wall from soil and stones. Trust all goes well for the pour and you don't get frost. Best wishes as always from N.I

Hi Arthur - thank you. Yes, Julie is painting the back of the wall with two coats of the rubber paint. Then we have a an egg box like membrane that will go up the wall and at the bottom with be a French drain and many tonnes of gravel. Just waiting for the rain to stop so we can get this done before we get any more cave ins.....☹️

Cheers Joel - there is plenty of snow on the mountains but luckily not down here. The mud is forming now so we are desperate to get the gravel around the garage.

I’ve never really seen anyone in the uk worry about water on the dpm? Concrete is heavier than water, so the concrete will push the water to the surface and it’ll disperse itself?
@HomesteadingUncontained2 жыл бұрын
It made a mes of the dry mix I was using but totally understand. We have a big tarp to cover it all up so we can get rid of the majority before the concrete truck turns up.

Here in the USA we don’t use those type of expansion joints we lay out straight lines and cut expansion joints shortly after finishing the concrete pour. Just different methods.

@@HomesteadingUncontained I just saw how worried you were about it and just wanted to say concrete is forgiving to a certain point, but once it starts going off, no forgiveness at all. You worked thru it and did a great job.
