I've used my 385FT for scuba diving in the ocean for 4 years. It handles the rough ocean better than a hardshell and has small pontoons for entering and exiting in the water.

A skeg can assist directional stability in a cross wind, but not in a cross current.

The times that I have paddled across an incoming or outgoing tide, my skeg has made it easier for me to keep the kayak pointed towards my destination and reduced the amount of course correcting that I had to do. Maybe it’s just the enlarged skeg on my RazorLite sea eagle inflatable.

I think, important to note... the interior width. The Explorer, for example, is 39 inches in width - but the interior width is only 15 inches. This doesn't really matter for most kayakers, but for the larger paddler, this is a problem! While the option for whitewater looks like a lot of fun, if I'm honest.. open ocean and lakes are more what I'd use it for. So, I'm happy the FastTrack will give that to me; and with 21-inch interior width... definitely a better option!!

Hi 👋 there Adrienne! Oh, I absolutely agree! I believe the FastTrack is The best solution for the type of paddling that you want to do. It’s nice that it does have the added interior with to suit your needs as well! Because the fast track is not designed for heavy duty white water, the pontoons are allowed to be a little bit narrower which affords much more interior cockpit space. Think I'll get the Explorer 420X. I'd like to get the Fast Track for the faster speed, but the rivers around me have some white water. Plus, the water can be low sometimes and the drop-stitch keel on the Fast Track might get scraped. At least the Explorer still has a removable skeg.

I own RazorLight kayak big enough to fit 2 adults on 2 seats and let me tell you it is not meant for fishing at all. Even on flat water it is a lot harder to balance whenever I have someone on board. On a windy day with a noticeable waves coming from left or right it is not relaxing at all. Waves from motorized boats was not something to be easily neglected either. Dogs or little kids fidgeting in the kayaks were simply making my trips just a constant battle. It is fast and maneuverable but also tipping. Finally I managed to keep my center of gravity as low as possible just by filling 2 dry bags with 40 pounds of rocks each and placing them at the bottom. Even with that fishing was not enjoyable considering necessity to hold fishing rod on either side. Forget standing up in that kayak to cast your rod. I am not mentioning how much I dislike any sharp objects aka fishing hooks around inflatables. Otherwise my daytime trips on flat water were quite decent unless I had side wind.

@@KayakCliff I tried solo in my tandem kayak and it was much better experience. A bit too much of kayak for one person though and going into the wind was more difficult. Foot braces enchanted paddling performance quite well. Still I do not recommend it for fishing. Waves and wind will not be pleasant experience. Still water and no wind is where it shines. With no drain plugs and 2 inch cushion any water splashes will make you feel uncomfortable.

@@KayakCliff I happened to paddle 2 person kayak by myself and there are some downsides to it. I had to choose either to seat far back or front as there is no way I could place my seat at the center of my kayak. Seats can be placed right where supporting rings are attached. For relaxed padding I didn't have to use foot braces. Seating at the back raised bow of my kayak up a little and it was sort of beating its belly on waves instead of cutting them. Additionally it gets even harder to handle in side winds and waves. Shortly it was manageable still but think of placing all heavy loads closer the bow.

Thanks Max! What you can do is order four D- rings from Sea Eagle. These are very inexpensive. You can adhere these anywhere in the kayak to facilitate a center placement of your seat. I just ordered four for myself, and I will actually do a video on this to show how it can be done. I think it will work perfectly. At least, I am hoping it will work perfectly. I plan on using the 473 razorlight in an extended camping trip down a river this fall.

I've been binging your videos this evening! Thank you! I have been trying to decide on a kayak for the last several weeks and this comparison video is SO helpful! I am pretty sure I want a Sea Eagle inflatable. I have some experience kayaking, but have never owned a kayak before so I'm a novice-intermediate. I really want something that has a versatile seating arrangement as we will be using it for solo and tandem paddling, maybe with 3 people occasionally, and the portability of an inflatable is really a plus. My biggest hang-up is that I can find used hard shell kayaks for much cheaper around here (Reno area) and struggle to find any used inflatable kayaks (except much cheaper ones like Intex kayaks). You seem to be all-in on the inflatables over hard kayaks now, and I think I am with you on that, but I am curious if you think it's worth spending around $1400 on a sea eagle instead of maybe $400 on a used hard kayak (no particular brand)? If I do go with an inflatable, I am a little torn on which model. Thanks to your videos, I think the Fast Track would be the one for me. My partner is a little less experienced and sure-footed so stability is a big factor. We will be mostly using the kayak on flat water, but I like the idea of being able to do river trips (both day trips and overnights). Considering the stability and river, I think it rules out RazorLite. I was initially looking at the explorer, but it seems like since we are mostly using it on flat water, it isn't worth the ability to do higher class rapids to lose the speed in the explorer. However, in this comparison video, you said the razorlite and fast track can handle the same level rapids. So I'm wondering if you would suggest one over the other for me, given what I've said about my hopes for it? Sorry for the long post--I saw you gave some others advice and would love to hear your thoughts having sizeable experience with all 3 models.

Hi 👋 Caleb, thanks for watching and commenting!! I started kayaking back in 2013 and owned a total of about 14 hard shell kayaks. I had sit on tops and sit inside touring kayaks. I loved them, until I learned about high end inflatables like Sea Eagle. The things I always hated about hard shell kayaks was that they were: Heavy Difficult to transport More space to store They had way less load carrying capacity than inflatables (important for camping and tandem) Sea Eagle inflatables changed all those negatives for me into positives. The quality is excellent as is the customer service and warranty with Sea Eagle. It sounds to me like the FastTrack is best for what you want to do. The FastTrack is only good up to class II rapids, while the Explorer will go up to class IV rapids. I think the RazorLite is rated up to class II rapids, but I would probably only take it on class I rapids. I’m posting below all my adventure videos in these boats. Hi Cliff, I just want to thank you for this super helpful review on the Sea Eagle inflatables. I was torn between the 393RL RazorLite and 385FT FastTrack. I'm now going with the 385FT for sure. I also live in Texas, and have a Class C motorhome with a small "garage" in back. We have two folding bikes (Dahon Mariner's). So the idea is going to a state park, and towing the inflated kayak with one of the bikes. I plan to use the "Wike" bike trailer, which is a bit more robust than the SeaEagle wheels. Sometimes the boat launch can be 1-2 miles from the camping area. I also have situations on rivers where I would fold the bike and bungee it down while going downstream. Then portage out, and ride the kayak back to the entry point. The 385FT would likely handle all these situations.

I've owned both the 393RL and the 385FT. The RL is great for fast, long-distance paddles but can get tippy in rough water (for heavier paddlers). Personally, the seat and seating position in the RL wasn't comfortable after about 2 or 3 hours of paddling. I tried adding a paddle (as Cliff showed) for more cushion and higher seating position and found it made the kayak much more unstable. The FT gives up some speed for much greater stability. I've paddled in extremely rough conditions and had no concerns about tipping. If I purchased the RL again, I'd go with the longer and wider 473 RL for additional stability. If I could have only one, I'd go with the FT....probably the 385FTa. The FT is an excellent all-around kayak perfect for the ocean, large lakes and rivers. I've used both for kayaking vacations and check them as luggage (purchased a large bag with wheels) at the airport.

Totally agree with you Jim! In my RazorLite, which is more of a performance kayak, I definitely use the foot pegs as I have in all my hard shell kayaks over the last nine years. I actually find that I don’t miss the foot pegs in the FastTrack or the Explorer. I’m able to kind of wedge my feet up alongside the pontoons.You can actually order foot pegs to install in those boats, if you would like to have them. Pretty easy installation!

Most excellent video. I am doing research and I am heavily leaning towards Sea Eagle product courtesy of your videos. I did have one question though. In the "Load Carrying Capacities" you mentioned something I hadn't thought of. You said about the Razorlite, "...up to 250 lbs in middle of the kayak. I would say it is better up to 225 pounds paddler..." Given it had 500 pounds capacity I didn't give to much thought about what worked for the paddler. I am a 270 pound guy so the Razorlite doesn't seem right for me. But, I was wondering if you could offer the same information about the FastTrack please. How heavy can the paddler be in there. Can he big a bigger guy (my size) and be okay with that weight all being in the middle or am I too big? Thanks.

Thanks for the detailed review. I have 385fta and i love the boat. Only issue i have is folding. Because of the 'Rigid Inflatable Keel', it's really hard to fold the kayak. Can you help me with some tips on what is the best way to fold this kayak?

Hi 👋 there! If I’m going to fold mine down to the size that it goes back in the wrapping, I make sure that I use my electric pump to suck out every ounce of air out of every bit of the kayak, including the inflatable keel. Then, immediately, I shut the valves so they will not let any more air in. Next, place to kayak on top of the wrapping or bag. And fold or roll it to the dimensions of the finished bag. It is definitely doable. I will see if I can do a video on it, because I only see a video for the old fast track from before there was an inflatable keel.

One question on the Explorer, on this video you mention plugs in your video when describing the self bailing, I wanted to understand if it actually has plugs to seal the self bailing holes for flat water? When you want it to drain, you just unscrew all of the plugs and when you are on flat water, you can just screw the plugs tight again. I used to love the Sea Eagle kayaks and people until I purchased the fast track 385. I was expecting so much more for the thousand-dollar price tag that I paid. Sea Eagle kayaks are ultimately very basic and if you're ok with that then sure, buy one or two. However, you have to pay more money if you want to “upgrade” their seats, pumps, or motor. What I don't like about their inflatable kayaks is that they don't have footrests, fabric d-loops across the kayak, or adapters for Scotty mounts. Sure the quality and reliability are good, but the designs are a little too basic for me. Additionally, I had to send back my Fast Track because there was glue seeking out the inflation valves and keel. The customer service was poor and after a month, they inspected the old one and send me a new one that was in good condition, mind you I initially had purchased a brand new kayak and received a used one. Thinking of getting an Explorer or FastTrack for my cottage. I’m on a very rocky island in the North Atlantic. I would be able to launch from a protected area and there is no surf or large waves to punch through. But there is always a breeze and strong current. Stability is important but also being able to paddle back in breezy conditions is important too. It would be my wife and I in the boat, but sometimes just me solo. Questions: Would the Explorer be more difficult to manage with a headwind or strong current? Would the inflatable keel on the FastTrack be compromised by the sharp rocky beach? Hi 👋 There! Thanks for watching and commenting! I think the FastTrack would suit your needs the best over the Explorer. The pontoons on the FastTrack are narrower than the Explorer, so therefore there would be less wind exposure in the FastTrack. Into a headwind or in currents, the FastTrack will be much easier to handle. It’s naturally faster than the Explorer. The RazorLite would handle even better, but the FastTrack is the best all around. When it comes to beaching, whether I’m in a hard shell, inflatable or a fiberglass boat, I always pull up along or parallel to the shoreline, get out and pull my kayak / boat on-shore myself. When you say sharp rocks, that makes me nervous as it would with any boat except aluminum. If you are just beaching on a sandy or small pebble shoreline, driving the fasttrack up on shore would be fine. Because the boat is so light, it’s no problem to get out parallel to the shoreline and lift the boat up onto the beach. I hope this helps!! Below is an adventure video where I had the FastTrack. My explorer 420X lasted 14 years before a seam split (unrepairable). According to SeaEagle expect 8-12 years from the kayak, so I did better than average.

I think if you get 8 to 12 years out of a boat and you use it a lot, you have definitely gotten your moneys worth. The FT does have two drain holes, but I don’t think they are self bailing. If they do self bail, they wouldn’t do it as quickly as the Explorer’s 16 drain plugs. I have to try my FT out to see if the two plugs are self bailing.

Hey, Cliff. As always you made a great video, desired and highly waited for! I really appreciate your detailed approach and opinion. I live in the Canadian Rockies, do photography, and love to explore its lakes and rivers. Inflatables were always my best choice in terms to travel by water. Your videos helped me to make my decision to get Sea Eagle Paddleski 437 model. In national parks motorized boats are not allowed, canoes and kayaks are too bulky in terms of transportation, and storage and load capacity might be a problem if we are touring. I was looking for something in between and found Paddleski. I planning to get a paddled version for now. But having said that I have to mention: some places require lots of paddling to reach to stay camping. I am wondering if Paddleski requires a lot of muscle power to tour with sleeping gear and other stuff? You mentioned an average speed of 1-2 MPH. Before, we did this on classic canoes. They work just great. How good the tracking can be on Paddleski? Would be wind a big problem? Also, we love calm rafting along the rivers with fewer moderate rapids. Can I expect a lot of splashes/waves through the top, you think? I understand that each boat is built for its specific purpose, however, I stopped my choice of Paddleski 437 as a golden middle that can serve more or less my needs. Hey 👋 Thanks for watching and commenting. Wow, some great questions! I get what you are trying to accomplish. I don’t think the PaddleSki would be the greatest option if you are paddling only. That boat is best powered, then shut off when wind, wave or current is favorable for paddling. I like paddling it when I’m in a totally calm lagoon or estuary and able to explore. I also take advantage of wind or current at my back pushing me as I paddle. This is a 48’’ wide boat and it definitely requires more muscle energy to paddle than even a 39’’ explorer or 36’’ fasttrack kayak. I just don’t think you would enjoy only paddling the paddleski. You could put an electric torquedo motor on it and have the best of both worlds in areas where gas motors are not allowed. I hope this helps, you. We love fishing and swimming in big lakes here. As an alternative, I am thinking to get a sail for it (i use to sail in the past). No doubt here to get Paddleski only for those two: motor/sail. Oh, that makes total sense. I think you will find a lot of uses for the paddle ski. Especially if you were going to put a motor on it at times. You can definitely put it in the water to paddle only, it’s just slower than a normal kayak and not real efficient in heavy winds and waves. If you can use wind or current to your advantage that’s a big plus. I especially love how it rolls up into a nice compact package that I can literally store up on a shelf when not in use. You can purchase them separately and add them yourself if you like, however, I do not find that I need them in the fast track or explorer. You are right, most kayaks have foot braces, but I find I do not need them in the fast track as I just tuck my feet up against the Sides, and it works well. Here in Texas it cost me about $90 to register it for two years. Some states even make you register your craft it you are just paddling it! Hi 👋 Ralf, my topper brand is ARE. It’s the third one that I have owned. I absolutely love it, especially this new model! I ordered this one with side windows that tilt up, they call them win-doors. I like them, because it allows me to tilt up the side window and reach down from the street to grab things that are up in the front of my bed. Hi 👋 Anthony - Great question! I recently had my FastTrack 385FT out in a large open lake on the weekend with lots of boat traffic and a little bit of wind. Lots of big chop and swells. The fast track did wonderfully! It is nice to have a tandem option! Even enough room for most people. I am 185 pounds 6 feet and my wife is 110 pounds 5 foot two. sitting in the back, I had plenty of legroom as did my wife on the front. You will not have much other space for storage though beyond a small cooler up in the front. Hope this helps!

Thanks for another great, informative video. I believe the FastTrack 385's recommended pressure is 3.2 psi. Sea Eagle says that the drop stitch floor can be inflated to a higher psi, but that it's not necessary. I'm curious to hear what psi you use for the FastTrack's drop stitch floor when you take it out, or if you've experimented with different pressures for the floor.

Hi there Michael, thank you for watching and commenting! As far as the drop stitch in all the floors as well as the RazorLite, I always pump it up to 10 psi. It’s rated for that and the boat is most rigid and stiff at that psi. You could probably go at seven or eight psi, but you will feel a lot more flex in the boat. Hey 👋 James - The FastTrack is rated up for class II rapids. I think it would work fine as long as the two paddlers are not too heavy. For example, up to 200lb male in back and 140 passenger in the front. The pontoons on he FastTrack are narrower in diameter than the Explorer. If paddlers are heavier set, the explorer might be the better boat. But, again the FastTrack will work well too as long as paddler weight doesn’t get out of hand. I hope this is helpful! How much do you want to carry with you on the boat? Are you going to want to fish? Are you going to want the ability to stand up? Will you ever be going down rivers with very skinny water where you might scrape the bottom. Will you ever need to take a tandem peddler with you? How long will you want to be on the water and what distances do you think you will want to paddle? Let me know these, and I can drill it down better for you.

I am currently debating on either the explorer tandem or the fast track 465. Mainly using on lakes and rivers as well as the occasional solo paddle. I also want to be sure we can extend our legs fully in either sitting position if we want to. Hi 👋 there! Thank you for watching and commenting! I have both the 380x and the 385ft. When going tandem, the back paddler has their seat all the way up against the back of the boat. I am 6 feet tall and have plenty of legroom with my wife who is 5 foot two in the forward seat. She has plenty of room as well. Not a lot of room for storage though…..You could put a small cooler up in the front and a couple small little items between your legs. The 465 will give you more room for storage, I just can’t tell you from experience what it would be like paddling single. I’m sure it’s doable though. If you do not think you will ever be doing any white water, the Fasttrack is a more enjoyable boat to paddle on flat water than the Explorer. Explorer is pretty slow. Thanks. I am a spearfisherman. Getting in and out of a kayak a lot, between the razor and fast track, ease would have to go to the fast track, right? I also worry about wind wreaking havoc on my outings so I take it the lower side walls of the fasttrack would be better for that as well. Any opinion?

The FastTrack will allow you to carry more weight and gear and will be more stable for re-entering into your boat. I have snorkeled out of my RazorLite as well and found it worked well too! Motor and gas is just under 100 lbs. That leaves you 755 lbs for people and the rest of your gear. I have been in mine several times with me in the back motoring with 3 grandchildren up front that are all under 6 years of age. Works perfectly. The big thing is you want to be under your maximum weight capacity and it’s best to come in 100-200 lbs. under capacity. It depends on yours and your spouses weights + the weight of your child, but Yes, I believe what you ask can be done. Now, the police or coast guard may interpret your 2 persons or 855 lbs. to mean 2 people only, but I think if you are under total capacity weight you will be fine. That interpretation is up to the police or water patrol though . . . . Performance wise, in my opinion, as long as you are well under your total capacity, you will be fine. @@KayakCliff I just ordered a Razorlite 393 and it will arrive by Saturday. Can't wait to try it out. The higher speed of the razorlite was more important than the closed cockpit of the Advanced Elements Convertible since it'll be hot out for months. If I don't like it I'll return it and try the Advanced Elements or maybe keep it and buy the AE as well once winter comes.

@@KayakCliff Hi, Cliff. The shipment of my Razorlite got delayed by several days so I didn't get to try it out yet. I went to Walmart and bought an Intex Challenger K1 kayak for $100 to hold me over in the meantime. I got one mile down river and ripped a gaping hole in it on rocks. Do you know if the Sea Eagle Razorlite 393rl would fare any better on rocks, or should I keep it out of the river completely? I mostly planned to go on lakes with it, but I occasionally want to go down and even upstream in rivers as well. This little Challenger K1 is 9 feet long and has an enclosed cockpit and it actually felt pretty good before puncturing. I may have to resort to just getting a hard shell specially for rivers. Do you know what the most durable inflatable is that would also allow me enough speed to go back upstream? Thank you for your previous responses.

Hi 👋 Sorry to hear about the delay on your RazorLite. I’m confident you will find the RazorLite to be light years better than the Intex. I have been on many river trips with my RazorLite with no problems at all. Some rivers, I have even dragged on rocks in shallow areas with no problems at all. Now most river rocks are smooth, if you are on a river where the rocks are sharp and jagged, I would stay away from them. I would do the same in a hard shell kayak too. For most rivers you are going to be on, go ahead and send it!!! At 1000 denier structure, these kayaks are strong.

@@KayakCliff Thanks for the quick response. I am 5’ 11” and 195 lbs. We live in San Antonio and mostly do the area flat water lakes (with some wakesurf boat wakes to content with) and rivers that are Class 1 with an occasional Class 2.

With your class 1 & 2 rivers, I would assume you are dragging the bottom in some areas due to low water levels at times. When I paddle the Brazos, I use the Explorer 380X due to low water in areas. If that is the case, I would recommend the Explorer 380X as without the rear skeg, you will have no obstructions under the boat that will hang you up in low water areas. The FastTrack is great and the best for flat lakes due to it’s speed and great heavy load carrying capabilities. When going down rivers with rapids and shallow areas, it is best to have no skeg at all as well as no inflatable keel. In the open lakes, the Explorer tracks well with the rear skeg in and the speed is decent, not as fast as the FastTrack, but pretty good. If you are anticipating rivers with rapids and shallow spots, plus lake paddling the Explorer 380X is probably the best choice for you. It has the most load capacity as well! good kayaks but starting at $1100 is out of the budget for many people. Try the Intex explorer K2, I did many of the Florida and Texas rivers with it. As long as you go downstream it is by far the best option. As of 12/12/22 you can get it for about $100 with all you need including 2 seats, oars, carrying bag and air pump.

The seats are not adjustable, but you could probably fit. You could use the inflatable seats and probably adjust them back a little bit further for a little bit more legroom. Are you wanting to only Paddle? Or mainly motor? If so, I would recommend: FastCat 12 - More room to stand up and move around than the PaddleSki. Excellent for two people fishing and standing. The paddle ski model, I have seen people put a plywood floor in some inflatables, could a person put a plywood floor in one. If so would it be worth it ? I've never owned a inflatable ?

Hi 👋 there Charles! Thanks for watching and thanks for the question! There’s no need to put plywood in the paddle ski. It has what’s called a drop stitch inflatable floor. What that means is that the floor inflates to a very high psi and is literally hard as a rock. It’s very, very firm and does not impede you from standing up in the boat and even walking around it. Up until a year ago I have never owned any inflatable‘s as well. I had about 12 hardshell kayaks over the last eight years and I have sold them all and now I have six varying purpose inflatable‘s. For me, definitely the way to go. Sea Eagle high back seats are the most uncomfortable of any kayak I’ve been in. The inflatable seats are fantastic. Other PITA on razorlite are the foot pegs. The mounting system is plain stupid

When you say “sea”, do you mean open ocean? What type of water conditions? All of these boats would do well out in the open ocean, they just would have different conditions that you would want to be out on them in. Are you looking for speed, or extreme stability? Are you planning on taking waves over the bow, like launching from a beach? Knowing what the conditions would be that you are planning for and how you want to use the boat, would help me steer you in the right direction. What size paddlers are you looking for? Height and weight.

I noticed you put the inflatable seat in the 427ps Paddleski. Is it stable on its own or is there a way to secure it down?

Yes, the inflatable seat does attach to the paddle ski. There are two straps that attach forward to D rings on the hull. If you try to fit three seats and you need more D rings for different seating configurations, D rings are very easy to install and cheap to purchase from the Eagle.

Hi 👋 Bernie! Thanks for watching and commenting. What pump you use really depends on the type of valve your kayak has. This will determine the end detail on your pumps hose. If you purchase a pump with the wrong end detail on the hose, it will not fit your kayak. Maybe check out Saturn’s website to see if they sell pumps. Sea Eagle has some excellent electric / battery operated pumps. If there end detail fits your Saturn’s valves, their pumps would be a good choice. I’ll put the link to the Sea Eagle pumps below. Hi there Dr. John - when you say “sea”, are you referring to open gulf or ocean? Would you be launching from a beach and have to clear oncoming surf waves, or would you be launching from a protected area? Typically, I would choose the RazorLite for open ocean if the conditions were good and if I did not have to punch through oncoming surf. If I did have to punch through surf and take on water during the process, my only choice would be the Explorer with the 16 self bailing drain plugs. For what it's worth, I've taken the 385FT from the beach through waves into the ocean. The waves certainly caused me to take on some water so I just used a manual bilge pump for a few minutes. I had the 380x but returned it after two uses because it's slooooow. Like paddling a tank. Even inflatable SUPs are faster. Great videos full of helpful information, Kayak Cliff! Happy paddling.

Hi, 👋 thank you so much for watching and commenting. First of all, I’ll say that an alligator attack while kayaking is extremely unlikely. In fact, you’re more likely to win the lottery. That being said, if a shark or an alligator, or anything else bit into the Sea Eagle inflatable kayaks. There are at least three separate air chambers in the kayaks. The paddle ski has five separate air chambers. An attack would likely only render one inoperable. You would more than likely be able to limp safely back to shore on the remaining two air chambers.

Great question, I have not tried that myself, but I have heard others do it successfully. You would need to position your seat in the middle of the kayak and, if there are not D rings in the right locations, you would need to order a few more from Sea Eagle and glue them on, no big deal at all. I believe the only kayaks that give you the three person capability are the fast track, and the Explorer. I'm pasting links below. @@KayakCliff I just wanted to say, another great video with very good descriptions. And that your catching up to my Sea Eagle fleet (currently at 7) and more than a decade of using Sea Eagle inflatables exclusively. I've been out more than 500 times in them. The experience is still just as exciting for me as it was when I started. As a small car owner (I favor 4 door sedans), Sea Eagle's are perfect. There are a few things I want to share with your viewers. Absolutely loving my Razorlite 393RL I bought last July. Not only is it significantly faster than any other model, but it's also....much easier to paddle. Even vs the Fast Track. Effortless paddling makes me want to paddle more often, and longer distances too. In windy conditions, the wind passes by the sleek kayak. I wouldn't want to be in it during insanely rough conditions, but it handles normal boat wakes pretty well as long as your a fairly experienced kayaker. I go tandem kayaking on my friend's Fast Track as I turned him onto Sea Eagle and he has an SE370 too. There isn't even a contest paddling the Fast Track. Last week I went paddling in my Razorlite, and him and his wife in their Fast Track. I was able to paddle faster and easier than the two of them combined. My favorite boat in the world was Sea Eagle's Paddleski 435ps. I loved mine so much, when it was discontinued in 2020 due to new government regulations in materials, I bought a spare because... I can't live without this awesome hybrid kayak/boat. I love my new Paddleski 437ps too. It's made many improvements, but as you said...it's not really a kayak. It's a better boat, but not a better kayak. Different experience, for a different purpose. The 435ps combines the best of kayak paddling & boating in a single inflatable. I feel it likely paddles better than the Explorer (hence the name Paddleski), and it was not too much behind the effort of paddling the Fast Track on an average day. For all the awesome extra abilities of the 435ps such as taking up to a 3HP motor (I use a Torqeedo 1003s lithium equivalent), and a full sail rig, I didn't feel it would make sense for most kayakers to choose the Fast Track instead (when it was available). Both Paddleski's offer the most stable performance in rough water available. While you can kayak paddle the 437ps in very calm conditions short distances, as you mentioned it's really designed to be motored and then paddled around the shore line. Where as, the 435ps was often sold just for kayaking. It's ability to take a 3HP motor is a huge leap above any trolling motor. It's also about half the weight, and setup/tear down time of the 437ps. I mentioned to Sea Eagle I'd like to see the emphasis on the Paddleski line for equal awesome kayaking ability as motoring, and I suggested making an all drop stitch version that would actually improve paddling performance over the 435ps, yet still allow a 3HP motor and sail rig. The response was....we thought of this too, and it may happen in the future. I hope I'm the first to test it. The boat I'm dreaming of. Make no mistake the new Paddleski 437ps however is an awesome boat with some kayaking ability. It's paddling ability however is below even the SE330/SE370. It's really aimed at the fishing market and for people that want more of a boating experience than a kayaking experience, but it's still sleek compared to most Zodiac style inflatables, and it can be paddled as a kayak in the right conditions if your not going miles. My favorite new feature is the ability to take up to a 6HP motor than a 3HP. Can you do a test for me? On a typical day out on the water, with some wind and waves, can you try it tandem and see if your front passenger gets soaked with waves crashing over the bow? This is my wife's only complaint of the 435ps and we often go slower to avoid that, and I suspect using a 5 or 6HP motor on the 437ps will likely suffer from the same problem, making such a motor of very limited use for me. I'm sure alone it would be no issue. Let me know as I'm considering buying a 5 or 6HP motor, which would be the main advantage of the 437ps for my needs. There is a bit more room on the 437ps which is a little more comfy and room for more gear, but it's not by a lot. Two people fit pretty comfy on the 435ps, and I've had 3 (a bit tight). The 437ps is a safer boat with 5 air chambers instead of 2. However, safer if you hit something. Less safe if your motor died or you hit low tide and you had to paddle back in windy conditions (done that). My wife is currently unable to paddle, and paddling both of us on the 437ps is too difficult. On the 435ps I can do it. The drop stitch floor is ideal for stand up casting (I don't fish), and my wife loves the included swivel seats which are more comfortable to her and higher up so she gets less wet. They were an option on the 435ps vs standard, but one issue for me is as a small car owner, they take up way more room in the car so I often use the Deluxe inflatable seats I noticed you have a variety of paddles including the longer AB40 paddles that I feel should be included or an upgrade option on the 437ps. Have you tried them on it? I bet it would help by a noticeable amount. On a typical day in my sedan I have both my Razorlite & my new Paddleski 437ps with Torqeedo 1003s. This is an awesome combination! If I want to purely paddle, the Razorlite is used. When my wife comes or I want to mostly motor, the 437ps is an awesome boat and still allows me to paddle the shoreline which I love. If you want to have the most fun you can possibly have on a Sea Eagle, I highly recommend you consider getting a full sail rig from Jim at sailboatstogo. I purchased my 435ps more than anything, for it's sailing ability. The 437ps and the Explorer 380x/420x also make excellent sailing platforms. The Razorlite & Fast Track, not so good for that as I'm told by Jim & Sea Eagle support. When I bought my 435ps, it was the only kayak Sea Eagle sold a motor mount and sail rig for. Sea Eagle sold the remaining Sea Eagle logo sails to Jim, and in some of their past catalogs put a link to his site. I'm a walking Sea Eagle salesman, or at least, I feel like I am. So excited to share my joy of their awesome products. More than a decade and over 450 uses, my 435ps still has not even been patched, and people say it looks like new. @@KayakCliff Keep up the great videos. My 435ps I think of as a tandem kayak, motor boat and sort of as a Sunfish style sailboat. The 437ps has the same sailing ability. I'm looking into adapting my existing sail kit to work on the 437ps. I'll probably need to buy a few parts from Jim to do that. I also modified Sea Eagle's original sailing kit to Jim's steering oars. Much better control than a rudder. Sea Eagle later changed their design, but now leaves the sail rigs up to Jim who specializes in sailing inflatable boats. He's got a lot of great videos sailing the Paddleski's on his KZbin channel. For me, it would be the paddleski! Reasons being, it’s weight, and the ability for me to pick it up myself and do everything by myself. The fish ski is a bigger boat. A lot more to maneuver with if you are doing things by yourself in setting it up.
