I've definitely been overpaying. I'm moving and realized I do not need the expensive 1 Gig plan I've had. But like you said, they are giving me a hard time to downgrade on the transfer to the new place. For someone living alone, even working from home, 200-300 Mbps is more than enough. My bill will go down in half. Great video! Very informative.

I have had the 1 GB service from Comcast and now have the Verizon 4G LTE Home Service. It is capped at 50 mbps and we have had no issues with the speed. We stream with two Roku Ultra devices, an android box, a music streamer, quite a few devices using the network along with a VOIP setup for a land line. No gaming, but it easily handles the grand kids and their games when they come over. Best part about the Verizon service, it never goes down like Comcast did. It has ran 24/7 since I installed the box, that was well over two years ago. And it is only $50 a month, no contract.

In Canada I have Telus it’s one the big three companies here. They tried to sell me there more expensive fibre plans and I told them I don’t need that so I got a much slower 50mb speed and to be honest with just myself the speed is fast enough all the streaming apps work fantastic online gaming works great the downloading is a little slow but I just download games when I’m sleeping. I saved a lot of money to. So you should really figure out your internet use and what you’ll be using it for and not pay more then you have to.

Good video…..we have reliable internet at 300mbps. That’s plenty fast and actually overkill for our use….but that’s the lowest speed available at the cable company named Optimum. We also have two AT&T 5g unlimited hotspots that pull in 25mbps all the way to 265mbps depending on the location. I actually prefer the hotspots as they have proven to be extremely reliable, Mobile internet, and use as backup internet at home.

You're not crazy, but you got the wrong units of measurements. Most Internet speeds are in Megabits per second (Mbps). It is extremely unlikely any ISP will sell you a 1000 Gbps connection at the residential level. You probably mean 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps). But if your current internet speed works well for your use cases, that's fine. No need to upgrade.

honestly you can keep jumping back and forth in promotions as long as you read the fine print of the cable providers. Most providers state you can't be put into another promotion after 1 to 2 years after a cancellation of services...at that point your qualified for a reset of your promotion. Essentially you can jump and bounce around from promotion to promotion. Just make sure you read your tos and don't try to sign up to early... you might be put into what they call rack rate, which it at regular price... as someoone who worked in cable briefly use this to your advantage. :)

In Canada a 50mb plan cost 80 dollars and then 20 dollars on top of that for the unlimited data so no data caps. Comes in about 120 dollars after taxes so it’s not cheap here. With DSL we can get plans at 15mb 25mb 50mb 75mb and 150mb if you go fibre you can get 250mb to 3gb and you’ll be paying an arm and a leg for that. Oh and by the way Cable is slower than DSL. Cable is shared with the whole block of homes so at peak hours your internet can slow drastically. DSL is a phone line connection and it is not shared so you’ll never lose your speed but will pay more.

Hi! So I will soon be sharing a room in a different state and one big problem i have is wifi... I really care about cyber security and I definitely do not want to use either public wifi or the wifi shared within the apartment... I do not use... lets say crazy amount of data on my laptop, but it is like being on the internet/web based activity for a long period of time for sure. Right now, I think I have two options the first is to get my own wifi plan and rent a router from a reliable company like verizon or google good part for this plan is that... it probably will be cheaper than a mobile pocket wifi routing machine the negative side for this plan is that since my device will be staying in the apartment, people staying there can have access to the physicial machine and of they have bad intention they can always do something on the device... the second is to get a protable wifi pocket machine and a plan... which I have never tried using and am not sure how the plan works... If you dont mind could you recommend me a safe, decently charged, wifi plan that could be a good fit for my situation? I do not need long range or any of the fancy function, all i need is a wifi that works in my room have decent data coverage and is cybersecurity wise safe and cannot be influenced by other people that i do not grant access to Thank you so much, and I hope to hear back from you!

Definitely. I was doing similarly with a 1 Gig pln. Going with a 200-300 Mbps plan instead. They really mislead you to believe you won't be able to do anything unless you get an expensive plan. Getting a hard time to downgrade too.

Can someone please share how much on average you pay for the internet service? And what kind of service and equip they have? We pay like $180 (FL) for okayish Wi-Fi in a townhouse (3 TVs, a ps5, 3 phones, 1 laptop) We have a modem from Comcast xfiinity and apparently it HAS to be connected to a desktop computer (that we don’t even actually use, it’s just there for the Wi-Fi box) and the wall Ethernet cables…? This can’t be right?

Thank you for breaking down your usage that was super helpful! Do you think 50 MPG would still be enough if you're working from home alone? My work usually consists of the usual email sending and receiving, zoom calls, vpn use and connecting to a SQL server to retrieve data. I don't want to have slow internet for work but I also don't want to overpay if I don't need anything more than 50 MPG.

A 300 Mbps connection will likely be ok, but if you want some more buffer room, go with the 500 Mbps connection. If you really need a ton of speed, the 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps) plan will work. Most households won't need more than 500 Mbps in most typical use cases.
@kevthedev9388
@kevthedev9388 5 ай бұрын
Hey May! In that case, I'd absolutely say you don't need more than 300. You would be able to do everything you described easily. The only benefit from going above that is download speed for downloading large files (like offline shows before a plane trip)

Hi, Kev😊 Please Respond: I'm cutting the cord with cable (I know I'm late😂) but I'm staying with xfinity internet. At most, I have about 3 devices running at any given moment in my home. For the most part, all we do is watch KZbin videos, browse the internet, and social media apps. If I plan to use an xfinity gateway (whole-home wifi coverage), should I go with 50mgbs, 100mgbs, or 300mgbs?

Hi there. Thank you for the video. I work from home. My plan is about 50 mbps. When taking calls people tell me they can't me. Our connection is bad. This doesn't happen every call but sometimes it will be every call awhile until I restart my computer. Websites load pretty slow also and I need web pages while I work. Do I need a new modem or is my plan not the best for working from home?

How do you receive calls? Is it from your home phone through your provider or do you use some program on your computer to take calls? If it is on the computer, you ideally want your computer to be plugged in via ethernet cable instead of using wifi.

Hi Kev, I just downgraded from 1 GB to 600 MB data plan as I had to get unlimited monthly data plan (been reaching almost 1.2TB data usage a month) We have 4 users that typically streams youtube/netflix on ipads at the same time, 2 wfh and elearning and some online pc and ps4 gaming. We also like to video call for hours. Is this data speeds enough or should I go back to 1gb speeds? Thanks

So at&t fiber is offering downloads speed of 18 and upload of 3.3 how bad is that?
@JJFlores197
@JJFlores197 3 жыл бұрын
AT&T Fiber has 3 main plans: 100 Mbps, 300 Mbps, and 1 Gbps (1,000 Mbps). Anything lower than that and it is not AT&T fiber. It would be AT&T DSL or a variant of it. The 18Mbps package is quite slow. It is usable but not that great for the modern web especially if you're trying to stream a lot of video or download large files.
