The thing that matters for most people is how well the router handles multiple devices at once. Especially in high traffic areas.🤔

Not complaining here but, as I said you have to test using multiple devices at the same time not one device at a time. Also of note, those speed tests can vary wildly depending on which test site is being used. Having setup the wifi for one of our local School districts in my previous life, I ran into so many variables that affect the radio waves it could make Marconi puke.😜

I still am getting yeoman service from my old Nighthawk RX8000 router. Yeah, it's not setting any speed test records, but it's been humming along just fine since I bought it in September 2016 (did a full factory-level reset early last year and restart it weekly, along with my cable modem). WiFi TV reception in the living room a room away is just fine. I'll probably bite the bullet next year, and get a WiFi 7 router. Prices are coming down, and more models are entering the market. Great video, as always. Have a wonderful holiday season and New Year 2025! Greetings from a retired U.S. Navy chief petty officer in the Pacific Northwest. ⚓

The vast majority of people do not have nearly the speed of an Internet connection as you do. Most people have 300 to 500 meg. The vast majority of people do not need a wi fi 7 router.
@LironSegev
@LironSegev 11 күн бұрын
You are mixing internet speed with internal speed. While the Internet speed may be slower, what you get with wifi 7 is much better internal connectivity. This means less buffering, less lag so each device gets a better internet usage.its not just about how fast the Internet is, it's about how much better the experience is for each device with whatever speed you get.

Very interesting, thank you. What I am looking for is more of a wireless bridge. An easy (but not precisely accurate) way to describe my property is a garage near the property line where the fiber internet comes onto the property. Because I didn't think ahead and there is no underground conduit, I have two concrete walls and about 14 meters of air before I get to the main house. I do not want to string an overhead wire from the garage to the main house--what I want is to wirelessly bridge from the ISP modem in the garage to all my stuff in the main house. I think from your testing, WiFi7 would be worth it even though in the near term, the only WiFi7 devices will be either end of the wireless bridge between the house and the garage. I just need to figure out what those two WiFi7 devices will be.

One thing to note is that a Wifi 7 router will often have a faster CPU (SOC) than a Wifi 6 router and therefore have better performance with Wifi 6 devices.

Yes, this is great info. Thank you. However, how do we stop our neighbor's wifi from overpowering ours? Where I sit I lose connection to my own router (only 3 feet away) because my neighbor has a stronger router 30 feet away in their house across the alley. No matter what I try, their WIFI SSID shows up 1st or 2nd (sometimes) and my computer loses internet frequently.

I think my wifi cuts out sometimes when I'm near a few meters the wifi signal can be turned off and can't see wifi 7 on my wifi analysis with my app on android, have pointed out to asus but there is nothing to do about it the problem as sometimes I can't use my wifi for several minutes and sometimes have to restart the router and latest firmware my internet got worse at 6GHz, Sometimes it happens that it says open system even though I have a padlock on my router, it is visible as open in the asus router in the browser and maybe something wrong with their programming

Always love your videos, but must give this one a C+. Sorry Liron, but there's a few variables that taint these tests. Drive speed between each laptop, and activity on the network to name two. Tests like these need, what you called it, a sterile environment. That will give you absolute baseline results. Then, you can mention that with these results, sometimes the times will fluctuate because of variables.
@LironSegev
@LironSegev 11 күн бұрын
if the time and speed difference was within seconds of each other, I would agree. But it wasn't even close. Also, the entire point was to see if swapping out WiFi 6 router for a WiFi 7 router would make any noticeable difference. It did. By a lot. So yes, fluctuation will happen but that is exactly right. I hate those tests that remove the real world from the test - it isn't a real world test. In our homes "stuff" happens all the time, sometimes more, sometimes less. And again - it wasn't even close.

Some wifi 7 routers have 10gb or 2.5gb wan and lan. So if you have more than 1gb ISP, you will see a download advantage. And in a 2.5gb environment , wired transfer is higher, but wifi may be less so.
@LironSegev
@LironSegev 11 күн бұрын
True. Always go wired where you can. We must not forget that some people simply can't because they are renting and landlord won't like it if they dig through the walls lol. or because they can't have wired cables all over the house for esthetic reasons. Also if you have a laptop or a phone you really want that freedom to work anywhere. But yes, wired wherever possible is always best

And is your router connected to the net via cable or over the air? Im in a unit in which (in aus) and i get 30mb/s via cable and 100mb/s over the air. I bought a netgear night hawk which has wifi 6.1 and that improved speeds up to 120mbs on avg. Hi, i have a question. With 6/6e compatible device, will it still be faster with a WiFi7 router with the wifi 7 mode turned off on the router? Reason I'm asking is cause i just bought the Asus BQ16 and I'm having some intermittent disconnections.(Understandable since it's new and it'll take time before they optimize it) The workaround is to disable the WiFi7 mode and MLO. So i want to know whether it'll be the same as the test you did but with WiFi7 mode off. I would recommend people to stick to 6/6e Routers for now while they optimize the WiFi 7 routers. I spent too much on this 🥲 Great video btw, thanks!

@@LironSegev Liron, I have Starlink, Gen 2 here at the house I bought last year. Thankfully the previous owners left all the stuff set up. So, it connects to their wireless mesh routers. Any thoughts as to what I'd have to do to use this wifi 7 router? Also, I bought the starlink ethernet dongle ($25) so I have a wire to a Trendnet switch. That way my computer and streaming are wired. A quick speedtest on my pc gave me: Download Mbps 167.84 Upload Mbps 16.49 My Samsung S21 Ultra is showing 260Mbps for its link speed. I do regular stuff on the phone, so not trying to push it to extremes. They generally say 100mbps for the download, so no complaints there. And yes upload is not a zippy connection, but I am not uploading Gigabytes all day long so things seem to be working ok. Thank you.
