I'm glad you can relate to the books yelling. Some people don't understand that. It's the moment you're reading a book, and you think of another book and look over and the guilt trip starts, "I've been on your shelf so much longer than that awful book you're reading right now. Why are you reading THAT?! You should be reading me." Thank you for having the discord server and hosting the readingalong. I just started Crime and Punishment last night and only read ch 1 of part 1 before going to bed, but had to tell my son about it and what I think is happening. 😬

Love your entrance. And yes, I definitely recommend not rushing through Godel, Escher, Bach; there are a series of exercises (the MIU ones and others) that are attempts to help you have a kind of 'eureka' moment. Unfortunately, that makes the opening chapters feel like a textbook, but it ends up scaffolding for grander discussions, so it feels worthwhile in my view. I found the book Power, Faith, and Fantasy used just the other day!-Seems like a great subject. How is it so far?

Ah! Okay. Thank you for letting me know about the exercises and the 'eureka' moments connected to that. I think I will start it this month then and ruminate on the book's content. Powers, Faith, and Fantasy is reminding me of White Gold by Giles Milton, and I am not a big fan of re-reading books so I'm struggling to get passed the part I am already aware of. I'll push past it and I'm sure it will be amazing. I like the writing and if I hadn't read White Gold the book would be intriguing. Thank you for dropping in and helping me with the Godel book. 👍

@BookZealots I don't know, some people say that but I don't ever really notice it. Maybe I just find it too interesting to mind.

I love Dostoevsky, but I haven't read that one yet. A friend says he's depressing. What does that say about me? She probably considers me a depressing person. I don't know. I love all his side stories. I'm still in Dickens' Pickwick Papers...hilarious! It could be me and my husband. Because I wanted to try the 30 books in 30 days, I habe a bunch of smaller books from the public library that I know nothing about, except they are short. I have found some gems that way in the past. I like your list!
@BookZealots

I think some of what Dostoevsky wrote is depressing, but also thought provoking? So maybe your friends consider you very intellectual? Ah Pickwick Papers. I started it this year and didn't continue with it. I need to get back to it. Maybe I can finish it this winter. Thirty books in 30 days?! 😲 That always amazes me. I don't think I could do it. Thank you for dropping in. I appreciate you sharing what you're reading. 🤗📚

@@BookZealots We homeschool, so I will be reading some middle grade books, which I don't often count in my reading, but are considered within the scope of the challenge, so I am counting them this month. It feels like I'm cheating.

I tried reading Crime & Punishment right after my home burned four years ago and it gave me murder nightmares - probably because I was already traumatized from losing my home. I think Wives & Daughters would be worth reading. (If only I had time.)

Yeah, that sounds like a bad time to read a dark book. There's only one book that gave me a dream and it was a war book and I had a dream of war. I'm hoping to get to Wives and Daughters this year/winter.

Oh good. I was wondering if a lot of readers feel this. I know readers will choose a book, start reading it, but then feel pulled to read another book instead. And Prometheus was going to do French accent for Lafayette and I was going to dress up and have a discussion with the book, but I choose to put it in the pile, so we didn't go to all that effort. LOL which books do you feel are yelling at you?

@@CandlewickLibrary I prefer my library to be unread. Especially since I'm not a big re-reader. I have approx 600 unread books. Depending on which spreadsheet I'm looking at. I need to do a physical count in Dec/Jan. Some of the books I read I will give to Prometheus, (like the history books), but I unhaul books and forget to remove them from the spreadsheets, so they're all out of whack. I know a lot of people feel overwhelmed with having a lot of unread books, but that's the entire point of my library. 📚📚🤗

@@BookZealots that’s a good point. I do re-read, so maybe that’s why. I think I also feel guilt for some reason when I buy something and then don’t get around to it. I need to think more like you!

I plan on doing an intro video for The Great Bridge, but summer and fall are busy times on the far. Do you have some sausage for the red beans and rice dish? We like New Orleans sausage, but didn't buy any because the price went up and it's not terribly healthy.

@@BookZealots Yes. I add sweet onion and a Cajun sausage. I actually use a prepackaged R&B mixi. You had water and sausage. I always add a can of dark red kidney beans and onions and then sausage. Delicious!
