You made a good point about people rejecting african american culture to be muslim but ring shout is a slave dance that was done by african muslims from Senegal and Gambia and the shawt is an Arabic word. We also have older traditions like quilt-making. We have a history of poetry and folklore like Why Dogs Chase Cats?

Thank you Ahki for taking the time to clarify these situations in our lives. People always believe that to put yourself first is selfish, but you're just looking out for your best interest in the sight of Allah AWJ. You gave an excellent example using the Sunnah regarding the sister who wanted to leave her husband and found her appropriate means to exit an undesirable circumstance via buying her freedom. We shouldn't hold unhealthy attachments to the things we love in Dunya because it's a trust and responsibility to you ( Amanat), but in the end the return of all things is to Allah alone and we can't take anything with us. I appreciate your raw honesty as a Muslim because in the Ummah I see a lot of times you are made.to.feel.ashamed of being free in speech and thought enough to say what you know, or people place too much emphasis on Haya (Shyness), so we just bite our tongue and be miserable. May Allah continue to bless you for imparting the Hikmah for those of us practicing Muslims who may not be aware of the Haqq. Ameen

May Allah Bless and Reward you Brother! This is an excellent reminder!!! I am an optimist regardless of what I've gone through by Allah's Mercy ( I take no credit for it as He Created me as such!) I however, question it sometimes because it is sometimes taken as a weakness by others. Insha'Allah I am striving for Jannah and have been reminded that this is my strength by Allah's Mercy!
