If you want to make the line it's absolutely worth buying a tenor pad. You'll be able to practice much more effectively and therefore have a better audition which will increase your chance of making the line. Yes - make sure you're relaxing and utilizing the rebound of the drum head. It helps out a lot!

Were you letting the stick bounce on the doubles or were you doubling them yourself?

It looks like he let the stick bounce back. As you play with faster tempos you'll have to let the stick bounce back

He's using the rebound, not relying on rebound. He's also not "wristing it out by himself" because it'll hurt his hand

When doing the loop around the third set how many times is he hitting each drum? from right to left is it 3, 2, 3, 2, 2,3,1? that might make zero since but i'm trying to visualize and i don't have a drum currently
