I think the term used in 1991, was "dampen." "Skank", was not to be used in polite company. But we ladies in the battery would have probably laughed louder than the guys. "Helicopter"...yeah, those are a workout. Love the channel!

Dude you should check out Sean Vega's Tenor Solo from I&E back in '95' At the end is a variation of your South Jersey Casey-Claw. It's pretty sweet. I use to love seeing the look on some of my fellow drummers when I would mess around and do that rudiment myself on my "Bass Drum". (Post '95') "Goodtimezz, now that's great stuff"😅 I'm pretty sure you can find Vega's Solo here on KZbin. BTW, Nice Chops Bro!! Rob "Bass" Sanchez

I’d argue ultimate double stops, and the other ones that are building block techniques actually kinda fit the bill for what a rudiment is supposed to be best. So most of the things in F tier are really more S tier than the real one. Because yes they are random techniques but it’s those simple ones that when practiced effectively will give you the muscle and movement to start hitting the others significantly better. Kinda the same way the single stroke four is very useful despite it just being 4 notes, all the single strokes are good at building a stronger pulse. And Flams are just part of other rudiments but I’d your regular foams aren’t good then that will transfer to mills flam taps Swiss armies etc... so yeah your F tiers are really just the best most basic things to practice

Are all of the crossovers necessary, or are they mostly just for show? It looks cool, but can't some of these rudiments be played without all of the fanfare? Please bear in mind I am not a percussionist.
@aviatr9542
@aviatr9542 3 жыл бұрын
A little of both, and really it just depends. For example, if you wanted to play a bunch of his early crossover patterns in the video "un-crossed," you could - however it would mean you would have to hit all of those same drums using left-hand lead (LRLR) instead of right-hand lead (RLRL), and most marching percussion parts are intentionally written right-hand lead. You could, of course, do it the other way and keep the right-hand lead playing (RLRL), but change the notes (pattern of drums you hit) if you wanted to remove the crossovers. But that might not be what they're going for musically (and/or visually... let's be honest, haha).
@aviatr9542
@aviatr9542 3 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind a lot of these "rudiments" he's showing in the video are mainly just tenor-drum-specific skillsets to build muscle memory for to be able to do in certain situations where it's actually necessary as a tenor drummer. The majority of the music you actually play on tenors does not look like this, but these types of patterns (especially the "high-tier" patterns on his list) do come up sometimes which are unique to tenors (don't count the absurd ones near the end... haha those are just him having fun).
