I've played this etude, and it has some difficult rhythmic changes, 6 against 5. Also the arpeggios at the very end took some practice. Banging out the melody is another pitfall. It may be not Chopin's most difficult etude but it's certainly not a beginner's piece either.

The long-short-long practice is valuable to me. I can achieve to bring out the melody easily It also makes my practice sustainable for a longer time as the long note can let the stretched fingers to rest. Thank you so much

I want to memorize this piece but can't seem to memorize more than 8 bars.... I didn't study music so I was never pressured to memorize. Most of my piano friends (adult amateurs like me) don't even try to memorize pieces, and even my teacher advised me against it - I think she didn't want me getting too frustrated. I want to have a 4~5 piece repertoire (very small goal) memorized so I can still play without my sheet music. I am hoping to use chord progress/analysis to help with memorization. Can you recommend some books to get me started? also, my right arm starts to hurt after ~20 bars, I think it is because right hand was trying to hold the chord position and stayed very tensed ~ Any suggestion? Thanks much!
