Incredible performance, your timing is perfect, every note so clear! I’d love to hear you on a streaming platform like Spotify. One question about this is could you go over the fingering? Thanks for the tutorial.

I love this series! Although I’m not working on this piece, your tip on minimizing movement after learning the circular motion immediately helped me speed up and relax my op 10 no 1…

Thank you for this video. I thought you might use for the right hand also 'contrary motion' from left to right. It really helped me achieve the technical challenges in the right hand.

Thanks for the tutorial Dr! I've been playing this piece for some months and I've got to play it quite fluently, but I still struggle with 5 specific passages, those are: - Measure 19: that combination of black and white keys which makes my wrist move in a very awkward way; I dont always manage to play all the 24 notes. - Measures 38-39: "finger dyslexia" lol - Measure 45: that last C in the left hand, my finger stays "glued" to the key and I struggle to lift it so I can play the note and make the melody stand out. I think it has to do with independence of both hands. - Measures 51-52: fast jumps on the left hand while the right hand goes up and down with tricky notes. - Measures 81-82: very difficult to accurately play this part because of a combination of big jumps and black-white keys while going up and down Any help would be highly appreciated ☺ Cheers and keep up the good work!!

I think what might help you is not only trying to have flexible wrists, but also be aware of your hand positions when you have lots of black and white keys combination. Try to remember exactly where do you need to place your hand forward and backwards

Oh how l wish l had had Dr Wang as my tutor 60 plus years ago! I remember my lovely music mistress graduated playing this etude and it impressed me greatly as a child. Dr Wang makes one want to learn it properly..... 75 year old hands permitting?

Thank you Dr Wang for this insightful video! I just have a question regarding the down-up wrist movement in the right hand- whether you use this uniformly throughout the piece regardless of fingering? What about forerarm rotation? Thanks very much!
@ShijunWangPianoChannel3 жыл бұрын
No one should separate the connection between the wrists and arms. While you have the down-up wrist motion, you automatically have the forearm rotation. If your elbow is not locked.

Maestro Wang, I had the fortune to find today your video with the difficulty rating of the 24 Etudes. Then in your KZbin page I found your tutorials for the Op. 10 and Op. 25 Etudes, and the "Winter Wind" in particular, which I find very useful since I always had difficulty with this Etude. Thank you very much. Looking at your piano I have a curiosity: is it a Mason & Hamlin AA-X? I have such a piano and I fell in love with it, especially its tone, which I think I recognize in your playing, and also its impressive construction. Mine is from 1915 (rebuilt).

Thank you for your message. My piano is a 1997 Steinway L. Best luck learning other Chopin etudes:) and please subscribe for more tutorials on many more composers.

Its amazing how little good pianos changed in the 82 years between 1915 and 1997! It is possible that in the next 82 years, pianos will be nearly 100% electronic. Thank you again for your teachings, to which I will subscribe right away.

Wang Lao Shi, can I divide the 6-note part into 4 notes instead? I think that works out for me. F C E A, D# C Dnat A, C# A Cnat E, B E A# C, etc.

Yes! It’s totally up to the fingering you use

Hi Wang. Do you give masterclass in Australia? I would love to have lesson in person. Currently i am also practicing this. But i always have problem with tension. Especially when i have to play on grand piano that is very heavy. About using arm and using finger alone, these things are not easy. Sometimes when we use arm, it is getting heavy if we do not release quickly, and when we use finger alone, the wrist gets locked. I am struggling for almost 17 years learning piano :( Please let me know if in the future, you come to Australia. Thank you. Otto

hi! I’ve just started learning this piece. I was wondering, how long did it take for you to learn and do you have any tips on just starting to learn this piece?

for me, i started learning the same /similar parts first to maximize efficiency. for example, 0:32 and 1:11 and other similar parts first.

@Peter the NWO Rabbit thank you so much for the tips! I haven't been able to work on the piece a lot, because of school, but I'm planning to practice A LOT during the summer :)
