The last Etude of Chopin's original set of 24. This final Etude is interestingly reminiscent of the first in Op. 10, both heavily featuring arpeggios with the melody being placed underneath - perhaps this is why the nicknames of both are associated with rushing water (Waterfall/Ocean). Another interesting piece of history with the two sets are the dedications - Op. 10 was famously dedicated to Liszt, but it is less known that Op. 25 was dedicated to Liszt's mistress! Make of that what you will. Hope your Monday and week ahead are excellent ♥

I like how this one sounds so much like a narrative, like it's telling a story of grief. Example: 0:00-0:29 is the initial grief 0:29-0:56 the person recalls a fond memory of who they lost 0:56-2:06 as a result of recalling that memory, the feeling of grief and missing that person intensify 2:06-end The person overcomes their grief, choosing to think only fondly of the person they lost.

@Slighty 4638 When it comes to a piece like this, it's a different learning process for us all so I can't tell you exactly how to do it. All I can really say is the way I practiced it, I started with learning to play it in a very slow tempo, get the placement of the fingers absolutely right and once I had that in my locker I just slowly sped up a little bit everytime until I had the right tempo. It takes alot of practice but it's worth it if you have the time

What amazes me about this Etude is how dramatic and climactic and complex it feels, and yet how simple it is in construction. It is essentially the same arpeggiated pattern over and over again over a set of chords, and it only really has two voices, three if you could the sustained pedal tones of the melody, and the figure at 0:14. It feels not too far away from something Bach could have composed. And yet it forms something absolutely breathtaking.

I absolutely LOVE this piece by Chopin. Actually, this was one of the last songs I learned with my piano teacher or was about to learn until I had to stop :) but eventually I will learn this piece again on my own one of these days. May I suggest playing Schubert's Impromptu in Eb Major Op. 9o No. 2? I used to play this piece myself :) I always had a love for classical music / jazz. I still play piano from time to time :) Your playing is phenomenal and your Dynamics are great as well! :)

I swear I’m going climb Mt. Everest tomorrow. You did it man. You are able to remind me why I love the God given talent of piano and the sounds that resonate from one. I love guitar, I love harp. Even cello. I love them. But not as much as piano. She has a way of gently ripping my soul from my body. And Chopin. Piano is playing him. I can’t understand his unpredictability. I’m with him, I see where he’s going. Then he goes somewhere else. I say “ get back here, we are not done yet.” He returns, then ends with correct and satisfying notes. You did wonderful. Invigorating. Soul searching.
