Niemcy w czasie okupacji zabraniali Polakom grać i słuchać Chopina. Jego muzyka odzwierciedlała stan polskiej duszy. Bombami fosforowymi zniszczyli gmach filharmonii już we wrzesniu '39 roku. Jeden z najpiekniejszych w Europie neorenesansowy budynek stanał w płomieniach.

Incredible performance. Pure enjoyment. Thank you for this post and thank you to the Warsaw Philharmonic and thank you to Andrzej Boreyko a wonderful conductor. Oh I forgot my eternal thanks to that glorious composer Frédéric Chopin. Watching Andrzej , I thought of Arturo Toscanini . Same dignity and concentration. in contrast to the many conductors today who flail about and want to be the main focal point of the performance.

Bravo! A beautiful and powerful performance of the orchestrated version of Chopin's famous and much beloved "Polonaise Militaire". This rendition catches Chopin's patriotic fervor to the full. I wanted to call attention especially to the brilliant brass (trumpets in particular), the virtuosity of the woodwinds, and the warm sonority of the strings of the Warsaw Phil. The orchestration itself is admirable, reminding me of (and can stand side by side with) the famous "Polonaise" in Tchaikovsky's opera "Eugene Onegin." Highly recommended for all lovers of classical music and of Chopin in particular.

According to Indro Montanelli one of the most senior and distinguished journalists this music was a reply to the German offer of surrender issued to WAW in mid Sep 1939. As he wrote:"at 1200hrs the Polish Radio announced: The following is the reply of the garrison and people of Warsaw.The sounds of Chopin's Polonaise Militaire followed as the Polish Artillery resumed to fire.The German generals stood up and saluted" .....
