Who else than Chopin and the great artist Rubinstein could let us hear and feel the Polish melancholic and dancing soul. Marvelous !

THANKS TO HEAR THIS BEAUTIFUL MELODY PLAYED BY RUBINSTEIN

He's also part of the great polish school,even if he's almost considered an american pianist ("The Million Dollar Trio" with Heifetz and Piatigorsky is a good indication of that!). I adore his performance of this rare piece of Chopin,and I suppose he was not anymore a youngster when he recorded it,so...double chapeau!!!

Chopin improvised much of this on an early visit to Berlin when he played informally for a postmaster and his “two pretty daughters “! Marvelous , both the piece and of course Rubinstein.

This piece entices and encaptures me. Rhapsodic. Scintillating. Entrancing. Tragic. Dancing. Sparkling throughout!! Romantic to its core, "Polish Potpourri" is all these. Its heady and aromatic fragrance will stay with one for days; especially as played by Rubinstein. He captures the heart of Chopin as no other can.

Grazie! Molto vario questo concerto. Ho ascoltato con piacere tutti i brani e mi ha stupito il finale.
At 3:48 above, you can hear this touching, classic Polish melody: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3m8fa2qhZyCjqc

Yes, very touching indeed. The entire Grand Fantasy is another of Chopin's gems I hear for the first time. And what a fabulous rendition it is. Thank you for bringing us so close to the 'Polish Musical Spirit' !

Wahrlich fantastisch!

Was für ein langer Satz! Aber ich bin komplett einverstanden - diese Interpretation ist eine der Schönsten von Rubinstein!

I wonder who arranged the orchestral parts for this performance...in following the full scores (Two different plates from Breitkopf & Haertel) the orchestration is far simpler than what is on this recording. I'd be interested to know what the reasoning was behind it and who did it. Either way it sounds fabulous.
@sgut194721 күн бұрын
I think it's the orchestration by Vasily Safanoff.

not a fan of this version. Orchestration is poor, far too fast in some passages, and I've never understood the hype around Rubinstein, he's an average player at best.

Nobody plays, or has ever played, Chopin better than Rubinstein.
