Superb. I listen to your recordings a lot, and never tire of the pureness of sound you achieve. So soothing to listen to whilst I paint tiles. It was suprising for me how calm i can be listening to someone play a classical composiition because mostly tthose who do are robots playing mechanically but here i never thought about putting my hand on a mouse to close the video Thank you very much and what a beautiful intsrument yyou have i am talking about delicate 7th string laying so peacefully away yet so bassy base in the music So great thank you again

Hearing the first few notes in the original key jumped right out to me. I didn't know it was the original key, I simply thought you had set the melody in a perfect range by retuning. It sounded strikingly good immediately. Now I know why. It sounds written for guitar. Beautiful.

I'm sad that I missed the live, but I'm listening now. I'm a classical guitarist on grade 5 and it's always such a pleasure to hear you play. I love the consistency of your playing, and there are no unwanted noises, like the string vibrating on the fret or unwanted glissando noises. (I'm portuguese so sorry if my english isn't so good😅)
@DrewHendersonGuitar2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Manuel! Recording so much has taught me the importance of eliminating unwanted noises. So many things that are forgiven in a concert can ruin a recording, especially when the mics are so close.
@manuelcardoso75952 жыл бұрын
@@DrewHendersonGuitar Yes, that's true. I have the luck of having an exceptional teacher, he told me to record myself or practice in front of a mirror, so I can evaluate my own playing, it really helps a lot. But of course I haven't reached your mastery (yet -- I hope), your playing is so flawless. And this arrangement is incredible, I don't know who made it, but it makes it seem like Chopin wrote this for guitar.

Yes exactly. I could have moved it over the fretboard but having it floating (and slightly longer) really helps with the resonance of such a low note.

Great performance!... but there's something i don't get. Why set the 7th string outside the fretboard in spite of having the space for it? setting it in such way limits that 7th string for one note only, missing all other possibilities for supporting the melody when any note lower than the 6th string is encountered, or for alternative fingerings. Guitar scale maybe?
@DrewHendersonGuitar2 жыл бұрын
Good question, thanks for asking! There are a couple of reasons. The low B-flat really benefited from the extra string length. I tried to put it over the fret board but it kind of sounded weak. It's ok for down to low C I think. Secondly, playing a lot of 8-string has shown me that reaching between string 7/8 and 1 can be very uncomfortable, and result in a lot of legato issues between shifts due to the awkward chord shapes. I think when I receive my 9-string i'll try this piece with an extra low D-flat, C and b-flat (all open). Lastly, I wanted an arrangement I could easily transfer to 6-string because I only really play 6 string in concert.

Best question and answer I think I have ever seen on yt, ever. Honest question. Thoughtful honest answer. You don't see much of this anymore. Anywhere.

@pauldehorn Жыл бұрын
I’m right with you and actually never recall seeing, or maybe noticing, the string is off the fretboard… like a micro harp guitar. For sure a limited design and likely why it wasn’t carried forward in modern guitar designs.
