Fantastic prelude. I really like Alfred Cortot's literary description: "After a pathetic introductory bar, a cry of terror in which, in the desperate rubato of chords which are tangled chromatically, passes like a shiver of horror, it is the hallucinating vision of a desperate run away, of a bounding race, tirelessly followed by a satanic will; it is the musical paraphrase, after Berlioz, of Goethe's verses, opening to Faust's terrified eyes in the crash of the storm, the depths into which an inexorable destiny rushes him."
