I learned the C sharp minor and the waltz 64 op 2 from you Jane...and I am almost done with this one (besides the fact that I still need to practice it a 100 times to play it nicely :P) THANK YOU! Like the previous comment I cannot read music nor had I any piano lessons in my life, but you are somehow such an inspiration that I will def tackle your sight-reading class very soon. Nevertheless thanks for these wonderful videos. Every time I actually don't use your fingering, I go back and start using yours because I realize how much better it is for the next part :p.

I been playing piano about 3 years now and I have completed Chopin nocturne op 1 & 2, Fantasia Impromptu, nocturne in C sharp, nocturne op 27 no.1, also two of mozarts, sonata 16 in c major 1st mvt, Turkish March and a few Beethovens work, moonlight 1st and 3rd mvt, The tempest 3rd mvt, and now I'm learning Franz Liszt - Liebestraum and plenty more I've left out like J.S. Bach invention no.13, a few more Chopin pieces, but the point is that I CANT read sheet music but I sure can learn from all these videos. Jane I love you❤️ and you are my private teacher thank you so much👏🌏🙌✌️

Nice to hear from you Xio. It's wonderful that you've learned so many great pieces. Others also learn advanced pieces the way you do -- without learning to read music. _The best teacher teaches one to learn without a teacher_, so in a sense, I have failed you... Are you sure you don't want to try my sight-reading lessons? Can't be that painful :)
@Zieoh7 жыл бұрын
Jane you are so correct with your philosophy, yeah I'll go for that lesson, am always so frustrated with the way I learn these complex pieces especially that I plan to learn more of my favorites so please and thank you😀
@duckymomo79357 жыл бұрын
Xio Zieoh A) to be a pianist like as in qualification: musician or teacher, you need to sight read B) I think pianists should learn to sight read (it helps learn pieces faster) But of course if you want to be amateur or entertain or what not, it's perfectly fine tbh
@Zieoh7 жыл бұрын
Mi Les ok so where do I begin?
@duckymomo79357 жыл бұрын
Xio Zieoh A) you need fundamentals of music theory: pitch, scales, intervals, chords and tempo B) then do sight reading exercises, i.e. books (Jane, any recommendations) C) practice

Try to find fingering that better suits your hand structure. IMSLP must have quite a few editions.

Hello, i strugle playing the 5:02 part a tempo because of the lack of independence my 4/5 fingers have. Any tips to practice ? For now i just repeat the 3 different chords over and over changing the order someyimes.
@janepianotutorials4 жыл бұрын
Suzie yes, it’s a matter of repetitive practice. Play 2 thirds at a time, overlapping, then string them together? Let your lower arm rotate freely to help. Elbow goes out for the first set, in close to your body for the next, etc. Experiment, movements should be smooth and comfortable.

Hi Angela. Rather you learn to search for sheetmusic yourself. That way you can always find it. Google search the title of the piece together with the term IMSLP . IMSLP is the best site for free classical scores.

3:03 I am struggling to balance both hands on this part. Do you have any tips? thanks
@janepianotutorials4 жыл бұрын
My tip is to use a logical approach. Force yourself to obey a metronome. Set it to your competent speed, then upon each repeat, tick the metronome up 1 bpm. You won't even know you're going faster. Sooner or later you will reach tempo.
@Nerdgoals-00-4 жыл бұрын
@@janepianotutorials thanks! so for the left hand, I think I am struggling because the waltz notes are a bit off the pattern on this part, playing lower octave F to F&D then A flat, B then F&E so managing to move my left hand between these unpatterned notes and also looking at my right hand to play correctly the Arpeggio seems impossible, I feel I need to either focus on my right or my left hand
@janepianotutorials4 жыл бұрын
Have to play slowly enough to give yourself enough time to decide which finger goes down next. Yep, both hands right away ! You can do it. Perhaps print out 2 measures and draw pencil lines to guide you. It WILL get easier.
@Nerdgoals-00-4 жыл бұрын
@@janepianotutorials thank you so much for the advice, I followed it and I can actually do it! I am getting faster. Starting slow & memorizing the notes on the right hand and keeping the finger number consistently helped. The next challenge is the double note hahaha

Look for a score on imslp that has pedal markings? if none, experiment and listen carefully. over-pedaling is a lot worse than under-pedaling.

Your video demonstrates what reading music at the piano is all about: it is a mapping process, finding the right keys on the keyboard and arranging them into a sequence of comfortable hand positions. But why do you keep the expression out of your playing? Expressing emotions is the purpose of music, and sadly, that’s missing...
@janepianotutorials4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for caring. My goal was to encourage reading music. Please read “about” on my channel on the intended usage of my tutorials. Playing with expression is a given.
