This is my favorite "Learn and Love Music" video so far. Hearing the explanations, I almost can imagine myself playing Chopin. That feeling, of course, dissipates when I hear the masterful playing at the end of the video and I realize how many years it takes to acquire that mastery! I do have a question: I looked up Chopin's piano and learned that he preferred a French-made Pleyel piano. Did his piano sound like a modern piano, such as you are playing, and was it tuned the same way? Just wondering...

Thank you, Kerr. One of Chopin's Pleyel pianos was recently found in England and is now on display (The Cobbe Collection at Hatchlands Park). One article stated: "Chopin reportedly said that the firm's instruments were the only ones ideally suited to his music. "The pianos of today produce long, sustaining, liquid notes," (Alec) Cobbe told The Times," whereas with the Pleyel the notes die away much more quickly and this gives a completely different texture to the music." Liszt wrote that Chopin "particularly cherished" Pleyel pianos "for their silvery and slightly veiled sonority and their lightness of touch."
