I've told this story and I'll tell it again. I was a teenager broke down on the side of the road driving a Honda taking my first ride. I thought I was cool. Bike lost carbs at altitude and I didn't know crap. This is the early 70's. Sitting on the pull off not sure what the hell I was doing. I heard them before I saw them, but club was on a ride and there were a lot of them. It was the Hells Angles. Remember this was the 70's and those guy's were hard riders and tough guys. They were going fairly slow on a switch back and the lead gave a sign and a few pulled off, Most went on but about 6 guys stopped. They not only adjusted my carbs, they left me a couple of tools. Showed me how to reset everything. Made sure my bike was running good and then they just left me behind. Some of the nicest people I've met. Lots of people drove by and never stopped. These guys did. I have always remembered that. It's still one of the coolest experiences of my life and I've traveled a lot. Seen some cool things. Met cool people and have rode till Cancer took away my Harley days. I always remember them every time I see a patched MC with rockers and a diamond.

Long ago in my wild mispent youth, one of my close buddies was dealing drugs to a national 1% MC that had a nasty reputation for violence, drugs, guns etc and still does to this day. One time, me and a couple of other friends went with him to one of their parties. We well understood the rules so when we pulled into the party (it was outside) we parked as far away from their bikes as possible, which were all nicely lined up perfectly together. This was back in the late 70's so you've never seen so many beautiful shovels, pans and knuckles in your life. Every last member glared at us until "Daddy Rat" came over (club Pres) and greeted us and then they went right back to partying and ignored us. There was this one huge biker who was three sheets to the wind hammered who was sitting on the ground hugging a big metal cooler filled with ice and beers. He was pawing at the lid like a hungry bear looking for food, trying to get it open but was so trashed he didn't realize he was on the wrong side of the lid. This entire area was on the side of a long somewhat steep hill so as he reached too far over to get the lid open, the biker, cooler, ice and beers went a' tumbling down the hill. The entire party erupted into a roar of laughter and so things started a' gettin' really rowdy at that point. We all looked at each other like "uh, yeah, I think its time to leave". We didn't say anything to each other as we walked back to the car, got in and left. Being outsiders, we didn't want to be the next item on the menu for entertainment that night. A few weeks later my buddy who was dealing drugs with them tried to recruit me to take my extremely loud amplifier (I'm a guitar player) down there to entertain them. He said "hey man, you've gotten pretty good on that guitar. I've been talking to Daddy Rat about you and he wants you to come down and play for them". I said "ARE YOU NUTS?" "Ah come on you pussy" he said. I said "I already know what happens. At first they'll give me beers, drugs and some of them may even share their chicks with me but then what happens when one night, one of them has too much to drink and decides they don't like my playing?! No thanks man...", I loved Harley's back then and still do (I own one) but had no interest in joining a 1% MC. I don't disrespect them. I just never wanted to be part of them. It's why I've never worn any patches on my jacket when I ride and I never will...

My most memorable motorcycle moment was going for a good ride not long after getting my license, and stopping in at a casino about 35 miles from home. Had a little fun, then decided to leave. When I got outside, I noticed a *LOT* of lightning bolts, and all of them pretty close. Not 2 seconds between each. I'm not quite sure what exactly possessed me to do the stupidest thing I could think of, instead of just going just back inside to wait it out, but in that moment I bolted to my bike, slammed my helmet on my head, fired it up, and took off like I was being chased by a serial killer. Doing 80 to 90 on a 65 highway, with a less than a month of even being legal. The whole time, I kept thinking "I'll stop at the next gas station / truck stop" but each time, I thought "Storm's not quite here yet. I think I can make it to the next one". Managed to get home, and get my bike into the garage. As I'm shutting the garage door, I start to see the wet spots forming on the concrete in my driveway. *10 minutes later*, it's raining so hard, I couldn't see more than 3 feet past my window, the wind's howling like a pack of wolves, and the power is flickering. I beat an absolutely devestating storm by 10 minutes, with next to no experience. I don't think I can ever top that. And I don't think I want to try...

This is all pretty corny, don’t get me wrong. But that mechanic getting a sticker was kinda nice to see. As a mechanic myself there’s a lot that you have to learn on your own. Oftentimes through frustrating and tedious work. That sticker might not mean much to us, but to him that was the “aye good shit man” that he needed after potentially hours of learning his craft.

Someone needed help and he delivered. Being mechanically inclined myself (I do industrial maintenance for a living) it's sometimes a liability because anytime a family member or friend breaks down, guess who they call. I'm all for helping family but after years of it my wife made me realize there's a point when it becomes my act of kindness being taken advantage of.

Idk how many times I seen a hells angels biker on the 99 where I live in CA. It's either just one or two of them, but everytime, I mean everytime the fly right past me and I notice the patch that it was a hells angel and they're like gone outta my vision going left and right, left and right on the freeway. The ride like no other.

I was touring in my crustgrind band somewhere along the westcoast and we were fillling up at a gas station and then we saw a biker pull up.. It was a sight I've never seen before. He was wearing all red leather with gold or white trim from head to toe. He had long blonde hair and was smiling at us and approached out tour van.. When he turned around I saw a big Hells Angel's insignia and i was like "oh man he's a HA" but because he was in complete red and gold I assumed he was some high level person.. Very friendly, very cool. We talked about our road travels and parted ways.

My mom back in the days, way before I was born was in the biker scene. She wasn't a Hell's Angel or part of them in any way or relation, but she has met many over her times in the Biker Community. She told me that yes, they are a SERIOUS Outfit and some are even killers, but she also said The Hell's Angels were majority of the time good guys who were respectful and were regular people. She says a lot of them she met were mechanics or similar job titles. Blue Collar Guys with a Passion for the open road. Just don't ever disrespect them or cross them and you should be fine.

I don't know how a blue collar worker has the economic freedom to buy a HD or sustain a rider lifestyle. And keep both work and club business going at the same time!
@Cocytus5 ай бұрын
@@dustypaint There was once upon a time in society where Harley's weren't 10s of Thousands of dollars marked up in sale prices and were actually affordable for a lot of people, and also once upon a time, there existed the reality that someone can work a regular job, pay their bills, have a savings, and be able to be well off enough to take some time off to do riding. Some people, this is a Plane Trip to a Resort. Others, something else, but regardless of what the time off entails, those days are done, and my original comment was in reference to those days that we no longer see. I don't know what kind of Gotch-Ya you were going for, but it didn't work. And speaking for just riders I have heard stories about, I don't know what you imagined, but I didn't at all say these guys were 9-5 Punch a Time Clock guys in reference to them being Blue Collar. I mean, what do you think they buy gas with? Unicorns and Fairies? Like, they had to make some scratch to spend, right? "Yeah, I can fix bikes, and I would like to fix yours, here is my price" and they agree and the bike is fixed, Biker gets paid, and boom. Mechanic. I don't know what world you are living in where blue collar people can't have hobbies and all they do is work 19 hours a day in a factory. OPEN YOUR MIND A BIT!!
@dustypaint5 ай бұрын
@@Cocytus no where but america you can get a HD motorcycle while being a blue collar which means minimum salary for 90% of the entire world. I had to save for 3 months to buy a fked up 50cc chinese bike. My eyes are wide open and it's 2024, you'll own nothing and be happy. Or live in the past telling someone elses memories. The medium age/elder guys on the video are the last bikers or lastest of the guy who have freedom... We will be in a completely different world in a decade, sad to say and witness
