Hey, UKG producer here. The most important part of the todd's style is not the cuts, is the drums. Todd specially is know by the drums specifically with the hidden messages, not just random samples. Lately is being focused on sounds and basslines, but every single track the drums are unique. Great video tho. EDIT: all the tracks sound more like DJ Boring than Todd, but you get the point*
@groovining8 ай бұрын
I agree Todd's overall production including the drums and bass is pretty unique but lots of UKG artists like Tuff Jam and Jeremy Sylvester achieved very similar sounding drums. There's nothing special going on there really techniques wise. I would say his people recognise a Todd Edwards song almost instantly by the sampling. The way he chops vocals & various records together is very original, espeically when he first started doing it.

@groovining9 ай бұрын
Yea for sure. I will be doing lots more UKG stuff this year and love sasmple chopping. For Vocals you can either chop up all the little phrases of the vocal to make it fit and time it with the beat. Or you can timestretch it to you beat.
@henridacosta903710 ай бұрын
Great tutorial! So would you get all the samples in key from the start and then re-pitch some of them so they still fit the same key? Eg pitch them up or down 5 semitones?
@groovining10 ай бұрын
Yea this is the technique. Match all the samples to the same key or sonic space inside the sampler. You can do this by ear or using Mixed in key like I did. Then you pitch around the whole sampler +5,+7,+12, -5,-7,-12. All these semitone values are relative to the circle of fifths where you can find keys that have 1 note difference from the one your working in. :)

@groovining10 ай бұрын
No worries mate - thanks for the comment :) Yea for sure, finding samples like that definitly takes a minute. KZbin is actually an amazing resource. TrackLib also - library music sometimes comes up with gems. www.youtube.com/@Soulhawk kzbin.info/door/v5OAW45h67CJEY6kJLyisg Both these channels are amazing and stacked full of stuff. I detail my process a bit at the start of this but I essentially chop an entire record into lots of little chunks, then find the best ones and merge them all together. I use fades in my audio editor to smooth certain chops out. It really a lot of trial and error, practising editing and of course listening :)

How do you know what the pitch is of the sample and by how many semitones you need to pitch it up and down? What the name of the mixed in key plug-in you use? Cheers
@groovining9 ай бұрын
I use the Circle of Fifths to figure everything out. You can see how all the keys related to each other. I sometime do this by ear and also use Mixed in Key studio Edition. The main technique is to pitch around the sample until you find something that sound good or close to good. Then pitch it around +/- 5,7,12 semitones to see if it fits. 🚀✌️
